This is my attempt at transcribing Southern University's Thank God arrangement (2023). It is not perfect, but this is a challenge for myself to grow in my hearing and writing abilities. I also added a few touches of my own taste so as not to completely transcribe this. I am in no way trying to imitate Southern's style, but that is the style that I am working towards. I enjoy hearing their arrangements, full of color and often featuring call-and-response, immaculate detail, and section fanfares within each song. To the Human Jukebox, keep on rocking (You guys are amazing!).
Thanks for tuning in on my journey towards writing and composing proficiency. I greatly appreciate your support and feedback, and I'm grateful to be able to share my good quality (and getting better) sheet music arrangements with you. Keep looking for more content in the near future, and can't wait to see you there...

I dabbled in arranging and used this same concept. Really puts your ear to the test.

Yeah, that's the best part of the challenge-- using what you know and don't know to get something new.

pretty close, my only question is why did you write it in double time, imagine counting the song off, you would rather be like 1,2,3,4 at 80 bps instead of 1--------2---------3--------4 and have them play it at 130 bps,,,,,, those numbers are estimates, but im sure you understand, im subbing though, this is an interesting channel, and i arrange as well, so its cool to see you arranging by ear. keep up the good work

Hey (sorry for the late response) but that's a great question. I wrote like that because that's just how I heard it, plus I usually do that to avoid using a lot of measures (opting for more complex rhythms). I do this for a lot of my arrangements, but you're the first to notice. Thank you for your support. And you do some amazing work as well. I love watching clips on channels like yours and others. It's a refreshing take on hbcu marching band music in general, and it helps people like me who are arrangers.

@@toclxdjay973 Yes and No--I was close though. I actually spoke with someone who was in the band this past season. He confirmed that I was pretty close, but their written music has many more nuances and/or advanced notation (at times). There's also the fact that any parts performed could be different from the music -i.e. adding extra notes/taking away notes, change of phrasing, etc. Thanks for asking. I myself was curious to see how close I could get to that style, as I marched in CIAA at ECSU. I just love all styles of writing and want to learn different composing/arranging styles in order to grow.

Yes I am aware of that. I wanted to see how I would do attempting to write using a different approach. I myself write in a different style, so this is an attempt to branch out and try something new. Thanks for listening!
