I enjoyed your podcast very much! I’d love to hear more about your shop; how did you come about to own a yarn shop, what yarns you carry, a tour of the shop. I am also interested in your design process and, lastly; how did you (an American) come to live in New Zealand & what you like about it.

Wow! This is an exciting start to the day. Great podcast, Alanna. That was really interesting to see all your WIPs. You really have a lot of lovely projects going on. I would have to draw a number from a hat for what to work on today. I like to run 2 or 3 at a time, but it would definitely be more if I was in touchable distance of all those lovely yarns. It was also great to see the yarns closeup on video, which gives a much better idea than a photo online, for those of us who don't live in Auckland (or maybe not even New Zealand!) I've only been in the shop twice, since I'm not in Auckland, and I would love to see a shop tour in a future podcast. The pattern with the cable at neckline is really lovely. The bear is really cute. That pattern should probably be designed tail up to head, to keep us going for the cutest part! :)

Yay so pleased you have decided to do a podcast. Loved seeing your extensive WIP collection. Next time, at the start, could you please let us know what knitting you are wearing as I do love that sweater. It could also be nice for you to highlight yarn or other items in your shop and maybe do a short review?? I do like hearing about the yarn you are using. I can't wait to watch the next episode. Also I love the little sped up filming of the shop. Maybe you could interiveiw some of the NZ yarn dyers that you have mentioned?? I'd totally love that. Take care.

Hi Rachel! Thanks so much. Yes- I completely forgot to talk about my sweater! It's my Birkin by Caitlint Hunter in Brooklyn Tweed Loft. I'll try to mention it in the future, as well as what I'm wearing in future videos. Also yes to everything you're suggesting! I definitely have plans to interview some of my dyer friends, talk more about shop stuff, etc. I don't want to get too "salesy" about the shop since that's not what this podcast is about, but I do think it's a really good way to highlight the beautiful yarns we are offering. Thanks for watching and for the encouragement! 🥰

This was a lovely podcast, and so many glorious yarns. Such a lot of WIPs! I tend to be more of a monogamous knitter or I suspect I'd become a complete dilettante wouldn't finish anything at all. I honestly thought your unfinished T was lovely against your skin and it's nice to have a lighter colour for the summer. Most of your other sweaters seem to borrow from a darker palette, so maybe it's just the contrast you're not sure of? Anyway, looking forward to the next podcast!

Hello from Melbourne, loved your content. I've made Sommerknus by Elspeth Judith and also found the neckline too wide, I added some rib rows and it is perfect. I'm really interested in buying the Tussah Tweed silk from you would you say it's a really soft yarn? It looks rustic in the photos. I'm thinking a summer rununculus. As an Aussie knitter I find it frustrating not being able to easily access the yarns that overseas designers recommend so I'd love to see more recommendations for the yarns that you stock. 🤩
@blackcatknitco
@blackcatknitco 2 күн бұрын
Hi! I love Melbourne! I really like the Tussah Tweed- it's pure "raw" silk, so it is definitely not silky soft if that makes sense, but since it's a plant fibre it's also not at all itchy in any way. It's definitely strong and could maybe be described as course, but I find it very comfortable next to skin, and it softens more with washing as well. I don't know if you've used Knitting For Olive Pure Silk before, but it's kind of similar to that. I hope that helps! Also- I can relate. I used to always watch podcasts overseas and feel fomo about their yarns, but after trying lots of them I realized we have great stuff down here too! I will aim to highlight that as much as I can 😊

I've ordered Spincycle from you several times, including your shop colour but didn't know about your other wonderful yarns. In the future, I would include the following 1) a bit about the jumper you're wearing (this one was gorgeous), 2) a tour of the shop, 3) some background on yourself, ie how you ended up in NZ and also ended up owning a yarn store. I'm hoping my husband and I get to visit NZ again some time in the near future. Your shop will be a first on my next visit.

I would like to see something about your shop, where you buy your yarn, the local sheep farms, the local dyers etc. I would also be interested in tips on how to customize an existing pattern to my linking, or when I want to use a different yarn that gives a different guage. And how to make a (simple) pattern yourself.

Great podcast! I loved seeing your different projects and look forward to seeing and working your finished patterns. I will say as an American it’s a little strange hearing about opossum yarn even though I know your opossums and our opossums are two very different creatures.

Yes, make Alpine Bloom in a different colour. I have some Remu for a pair of gloves and some Tussah Tweed for a Ranunculus. Considering you’re running a yarn store, I’m impressed by what a prolific knitter you are. But please don’t frog any WIPS unless you don’t like something (like the Alpine Bloom). Interesting podcast. I’d like a shop tour, yes please.

That was a lovely episode! I’d be really interested in hearing about the yarns you stock, in particular interesting NZ yarns, or specialty hard to find yarns.

Hi Alana, glad to see you've decided to podcast. I visited your beautiful shop in March when my husband, myself, and another couple cruised New Zealand and Australia. I was intent on purchasing a possum blend yarn and treated myself to 4 skeins. Haven't knit the fingerless mitt/hat project yet, but if anyone wants possum yarn, your shop is the go-to! Loved New Zealand, wonderfully friendly people.

Hello and thank you for finding time in your busy schedule to start this knitting podcast. Your knits clearly show how passionate you are about this craft and I for one have enjoyed seeing your WIPS. With regard to the Alpine Bloom, perhaps frogging it and restarting it with the rose color would be more too your liking as that is a warm color and would compliment your skin color. Then continue on with the pale yellow color. The two colors are beautiful together. Just a thought. Enjoy your knitting and until next time. Cheers.

Hi , I’m from Sydney and love to find podcasts from the southern hemisphere so we’re knitting for the same season. Loved your first episode and look forward to more. My knitting aim is to be proficient enough to do a Marie Wallin pattern so I’m envious of your skill. Where is your shop in NZ ?

As a New Zealander, I’m so glad to see a New Zealand podcast, and it a great one too. You are knitting in the same season as me, so that’s a bonus. Lots of podcasters are overseas going into Autumn so I see their winter projects. Keep up the good work! I have been to your wonderful shop too, so fantastic, I want to grab all those yarns behind you, and go into a knitting frenzy 😅

Loved your podcast, lots of info given. Please don’t frog your second tee, in the yellowing yarn. Yellow can be hard to put near your face, but I don’t think that yarn is too yellow for you. The colour combinations with the second yarn are beautiful. Would like to see some of your past projects eg favourite knits or most wearable sweater etc.

I loved your first podcast! I visited your store about 18 months ago and you were so helpful with picking out yarn for my Shiftigan cardigan. It’s still a WIP but I’m making headway and feel inspired to see that you also have several WIPs. You calmed my soul today!

Loved your first episode. I’ve knit the Primrose by Marie Wallin. I had to make a few adjustments to the pattern as the body was far too short and the yoke far too large. I also added short rows at the back neck. I absolutely love the finished sweater, it’s one of my favourites. I can understand how once it’s put down it’s hard to pick up again as it’s a lot of ends and work. I think it was the cost of the kit that kept me going! Also love the sweater you’re wearing, what’s the name of the pattern?

Thank you so much for a wonderful podcast. That beautiful blouse you are wearing. Can you tell us a bit about the fit of it. Here in Denmark, there has been some talk that it doesn't fit so well at the top of the blouse. How does yours fit and is there anything you can do to make it fit better? Your blouse is so stunningly beautiful. Kind regards from Denmark
