Dear Nicko McBrain, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your extraordinary talent and contributions to the world of music. As the drummer of Iron Maiden, your work has been a beacon of inspiration for countless fans, including myself. Your rhythm, power, and intricate beats have defined a genre, and for that, I am truly thankful. One song, in particular, Where Eagles Dare, has had a profound impact on me. It's a masterpiece that showcases not only your technical ability but also the emotional depth that music can convey. The way you seamlessly blend precision with passion is something that resonates deeply. Every drum roll in that track seems to mirror the intensity and the courage of the song's narrative. It’s as if the drums themselves are daring to take flight, breaking free from the chains of earthly limitations. For me, Where Eagles Dare isn't just a song; it’s a reminder of how far music can take us when we embrace the unknown, daring to soar to places we've never been before, much like the eagles themselves. Thank you, Nicko, for all the music, the energy, and the legacy you continue to build. Your artistry has been a guiding force, a source of strength, and a constant reminder that with passion, there's no limit to what can be achieved. You have shown us how to face life’s challenges with the same fearlessness as the eagles. With deepest gratitude and admiration. Patrik Scherer

First time I saw Nicko was playing drums for Trust supporting Maiden at the Ipswich Gaumont way back in the early 80s. Met him in a tiny pub called The Royal William (sadly demolished now) years later when he played for a guitarist called Phil Hilbourne during a hiatus in Iron Maiden after Bruce Dickinson left and before they recruited Blaze. His drum kit took up most of the stage! He was furious when I happened to say "shame about Bruce, heh?" and really went into one about Maiden being left in the lurch. Glad they made up and stayed friends. Thank you Nicko. Be well.

Same here - in 1981 I saw Maiden with Trust supporting in Edinburgh. Maiden had both Paul Di'Anno and Clive Burr who are both now sadly departed. Trust had Nicko and were excellent. He's made the right decision to possibly record more material with them and cut out the strain of touring after recovering from a stroke. Done pretty well considering how he lost power down one side of his body and a very funny guy which I believe his humour and family got him through that.

I remember listening to Piece of Mind when the album was released back in '83. I was a freshman in high school, a huge Maiden fan, and a proponent of Clive Burr's drumming. Notwithstanding the latter, I was shocked in the best possible way when the drum intro to "Where Eagles Dare" blasted from that shiny new vinyl LP. Goodbye, Nicko. From your brilliant musicianship to your outstanding DW pedal adverts ("If you had Nicko's foot, you'd play DW too"), you'll be sorely missed. Me too - that opening to Where Eagles Dare, the cymbal work in Revelations, the steady heaviness of Icarus, the ferocious fills in the Trooper. That's awesome. He visited our local musical instrument store Fritiofs Musik (now Andreasson Musik), here in Uddevalla, Sweden, back in 2001. He was there to sign autographs and being part of the celebrations for the opening of the shop's new premises. 400-500 was waiting in line just to meet him. I did not attend, since I were a bit too young at the time and my interest were not that high. I don’t remember, if I knew any that attend it. On a sidenote, he was friends with the Swedish music legend/singalong Lasse Berghagen, who met each other during a round of golf. Nicko appeared in the documentary for Lasse's former hosting gig Allsång på Skansen. He also appeared via video link, when Lasse appeared on a This Is Your Life-esque TV-show. Nicko was once one of the audience members on Allsång på Skansen (outdoor summer singalong TV-show on Skansen, Stockholm) in 2003. Sadly, Lasse passed away last year at the age of 78. Nicko send his condolences via Warner Music. He saw Lasse as a brilliant, artist, entertainer and especially a great friend. Yep, I most definitely had a tear watching this. Thank you Nicko, I have been listening to you since the beginning when I was 15 years old. I so clearly remember buying Piece of Mind and putting on the record and hearing Where Eagles Dare for the first time and thinking WTF?! Who is this new drummer? So bloody awesome. You will be missed Nicko, but never ever forgotten. 👍👏👏👏👏👏😎🥁🤘

Such heartbreaking news but he gave so much of his life to this band so I gotta respect the decision. A wonderful drummer and even better human. Up the Irons 🤘

Such an emotional farewell to an absolute legend. I was starstruck as a young drummer back in 1992 when I got to meet Nicko before their Auckland show here in NZ. He took the time to chat and sign an autograph for a 15 year old aspiring drummer. Like the rest of the band he’s such a down to earth human that is larger than life. So happy to have seen him play with Maiden just a few months ago. Up the Irons!

Been a Maiden fan for almost 20 years. I've seen them twice in Peru, for this tour they didn't came here but I went to Chile to see them. I couldn't miss this tour, I felt in my guts that this would be the last time I saw the band complete. When Nicko announce his retirement it was sad, but on the other hand it was a celebration of 4 decades of career being a crucial part of the Maiden sound. Thank you Nicko for all the joy that you brought us, the songs, the albums, the tours, the videos, and for playing every single night with a big smile on your face. Up the Irons!
