To watch the night sky through a telescope is a wonderful thing to do but you might doing it wrong or even not doing it at all. Astrophotography can disconnect you from the sky if you're not doing what i show in this video. But if you are doing it right, you're good to go with a camera, congratulations. We are all in the same spaceship don't we?

I agree 100%. One of my favorite things to do is set up one of my scopes on the sidewalk here in my Brooklyn neighborhood and invite passersby to take a look at the Moon or a planet. For people who have never tried visual astronomy, it's a life changing experience that cannot be duplicated by looking at an image on a screen. It's not the same experience.

visual astronomy is good for like brighter objects for fainter obj you would definitely go in a dark place and for even fainter obj definitely you would require a cam because obviously our eye has a limit but like for a beginner its good, give you the motivation to further continue in astronomy.

I love visual with my dob... Let's say I am trying AP. I am disassembling my telescope, I bring it in three trips outside, assemble it, allign it, input my geographical location data in it, setup the asiair, run tests to check what's the max exp I can reach with the quality of my guiding... With visuel : I get my dobson out, the collimation takes 5 minutes max, I aim at a random bright object and align my finder, done. I am ready to observe. I LOVE how simple it is. Just you, a dobsonian, and your aiming skills. Like fishing.

Absolutely... 100%... Finally had clear skies last night. Set up my 13in Dob equipped with StarSense Smartphone App. Found 12p comet (small fuzz ball, no tail) next to Andromeda, then Pleiades, and the Orion nebula (with and without the DGM NPB filter). BEAUTIFUL! Did some quick galaxy spotting. Then the haze rolled in. 🙁

How do you find that filter? Is it worth it? All visual filters make me miss the stars on the field. Maybe it's just me
@OMaMaRMY
@OMaMaRMY 5 ай бұрын
@@DobsonianPowerI have the same filter, its amazing for EMISSION nebula at low to medium power, really extends the nebulosity and adds contrast, works well on the veil nebula and every planetary nebula too! But you are right, the stars are killed and all of them become the same unnatural red color. For galaxies and clusters it only dims the view. Cloudy nights agrees that the cheapest UHC filter that is good is the Orion Ultrablock, only $100 for 2 inch. But better versions are the DGM NPB, TeleVue Nebustar, Astronomik UHC, and Lumicon Gen-3 UHC

@millenialfalcon8243
@millenialfalcon8243 5 ай бұрын
@OMaMaRMY Agreed. I prefer it over the Lumicon UHC, at least on Orion and Ring. Need to do more comparisons on others. The NPB also lets some red through, so stars can look both blue and/or red.

I tend to use it after observing an object without, but then want to see a bit more detail

I do like visual but I feel it’s also lacking “some”. I like looking at the sky and seeing the stars and learning about the sky and what, and where things are. Sometimes I feel disappointed about how small the planets are and lacking the details I want to see but maybe I just haven’t spent enough time so that my brain is trained and picks up these details. The moons is so bright and blinding when using my scope, even with a filter. (I don’t like using sunglasses) Again maybe my brain is not trained enough to pick up what is visible in deep sky. With my new Seestar, is so cool to see the deep sky objects but it too lacks the great views of the planets and moon that I want to see (but I’ve only been able to use it for 4 nights so far) and at least I’m not blinded by the brightness of the moon) Together, visual with my naked eyes and or telescope and the Seestar I’m having fun and I’m expecting a great time exploring over the next several months (and for life).

Last night I saw Bodes and Cigar galaxy from my light polluted backyard (bortle 6) for the first time with just my little 8 inch dob. In light pollution they were just smudges but cigar galaxy had a different shape than bodes galaxy. Its really emotional, knowing that these photons you are collecting with your eyes have traveled millions of light years to get to your eye. There is literally a train of light extending all the way from your eye to the object you are viewing far out in the universe. In a way, you are physically "touching" the objects. Truly Tiago, thank you for making this video. Its a good reminder to sometimes just leave the camera equipment alone, go outside, and contemplate our place in the stars

Of course not. Unless you're going to travel and at the last minute you pick a Dwarf2 and place it into the bag. I did it last weekend on a rush. No space available for telescopes lol. Would be nice to play with the tiny dwarf out of home but then the clouds ruined my plan.

I feel visual sometimes lacks a bit... to be fair.. I don't have the best equipment for visual. or the seeing conditions.. But usually things like planets don't have the detail I'd hope to see.. Orion, Andromeda, bode's galaxy are more like smudges than actual detailed things. Yes, it is interesting to see them, and does provide more "context" of what is out there vs using a camera to do so.. you do get a scale of the solarsystem.. so I can appreciate the visual.. but love the photography, as you simply can explore so much more of space.. much further, in much more detail.Allowing you to experience a scale far beyond our solar system.
@DobsonianPower
@DobsonianPower 5 ай бұрын
of course it lacks. That's why i also use a camera to watch, they complement each other. But the reverse also exist: being just a photographer lacks the deeper contact with the sky, that "natural context" we immerse in through our body and mind. And often times the photographer becomes an artist through software, not an explorer. The difference are not on the tools but on the goals.

For me visual astronomy is dead. No good in light polluted skies and doing EAA your able to see deeper than the eye can see,and colour. The only thing visual is good for is planets and moon, sun and star clusters. Even using EAA astronomy can see maybe 2X the magnitudes than the eye can see. The eye cannot build up light, and stake like EAA. Visual to me is like being in the stoneage. Old school, a thing of the past
