....hello everyone - I got home at 4.30pm this afternoon , after being in hospital since February 19th ! The reason for the delay was initially a 'medical student' , who woke me up in the middle of the night to change my 5 drain bags , so I left her to it. I was then later awoken by the ward sister who'd let her loose on me UNSUPERVISED.....and a pipe had been cut down severely and she hadn't fitted a new big safety pin to prevent the pipe dropping into my belly....and it HAD done , leaking gunk for hours - so a hasty second op was quickly organised under general anaesthetic to get it out again . Then I got a serious infection , then a bright red blood serious bleed into a bag ....and since then they've just been monitoring the bags and draining them off , and have removed 4 of the 5 - the last one is still there and I'll be draining and measuring it myself at home for a while. The gunk stinks - and they actually wanted me to drink some mixed with pineapple juice to boost my 'good bacteria' in my system.....but thankfully they found it wasn't necessary ! I'm very weak and skinny - below 15 stone from 22 or 23....but I'll start my OWN 'Enhanced Recovery Programme' tomorrow.....seeing as the Hospital one was crap ! ....hello Tony. Yes, as you'll see in my updates below I had a major operation to remove a 'pre-cancerous growth' on February 20th....but didn't get out of hospital until March 31st....due to a series of cock ups and complications , infection and bleeding around the stitches inside me. See ''The Whipple Procedure'' on a google search.....I'm not out of the woods yet either....after losing 7 stone , and am still very weak and struggling to keep food down....tea and toast is the plan in a minute....but I might gag or puke . Have you given up on biking now ?

Sounds like you are on the definite path to recovery however slow and frustrating it must be for you., Keep the faith you'll get there😉 to where you want to be . But I can honestly say hand on heart, since learning of your health issue this is the one I've looked forward to the most Steve. Good on yer lad! You have informed, entertained, and made us laugh out loud with your videos for several years now, and in a strange way like it or not have become part of the family. ....it's gonna take a few weeks....or even months - though the doctors said 3 to 6 months following the Whipple Procedure ! I just put the bins out and made a brew....er.....with the help of my 84 year old mum....as I had to flop in the armchair struggling to breath . I'm going back to hospital for a check up tomorrow....

Go easy on yourself, it can be tempting to do too much. Moderation in all things , slow and steady is the way. Good thoughts are with you from all over, Steve.

@@sonofagunner50 ....thanks - there's been a relapse though...more complications with meds causing gagging , puking , kwikshits etc mean I'm under 14 stones now. Saw another emergency doctor and he said I have oral thrush caused by my brown inhaler , so I'm on tongue drops to clear it as well as anti-sickness tablets.....so hopefully I'll be eating proper soon.....my old mum got me some Complan ! Still too weak to stand for more than 2 minutes or so.....I fell over dizzy yesterday and banged my forehead going down.

...the latest news is that the intended surgeon has reported sick....so someone else is doing my operation now , and has brought the date forward. Maybe he'll have a manual on my belly , with a nurse turning the pages....'Whipple by numbers' ....or ''Done Whippling?'' ....or 'The Beginners Guide To The Whipple Procedure' ....or 'Don't Waffle While You Whipple' - in which case I'll lend HIM my helmetcam and let him film it... ...?

.....I went to the Health Centre after work today, hoping to get maybe just a brief phone call appointment with a GP to discuss the op. and my blood pressure which they're supposed to be monitoring ....but no luck as it's impossible to get past the woman on reception these days. I'm starting to get stressed out with it all .

....yes, the Holmes Mill is a fabulous venue - it's a pity that so many old mills were demolished in the past ......before the current 'nostalgia boom' made them more appealing with their connections to our industrial past and local history. I'm well at the moment , but am rather worried about my big op.....I'll go to the Holmes Mill again and The Emporium then a curry at the Dil Raj after I've recovered !

.....so much for the diet - after cleaning my bike , I went to Morrisons and saw some 'Pancake Mix' in plastic bottles on the shelves....just add water and shake - I managed to make 4....though the bottle said 6 - but one ended up on the kitchen floor !

@@StevesHornet900 okay Steve thanks for letting me know, I could have done with a stair lift after my op, had to sleep downstairs for 2 weeks using a commode and trips to the kitchen sink to wash my face and teeth only then back to my chair or sat on bed didn't have a mobile then a landline phone in room no visitors then they all came for my birthday which was great but exhausting. I sent you an e mail a few weeks ago but I've only just got the Internet on as its on a cap, already reached 80% so I'm going to have to watch you tube on the telly. It was thanks to your mate Derek that I found out about your health issue and also watch Bandit Nev who mentioned you on his channel, one of my friends had his op cancelled with the nurses strike by 2 week, he had been counting the days and had to start over again. Ok Steve hope all goes well for you, don't worry and remember each day one day better take care of yourself we are all rooting for you 👌👍 xx

Evening Steve I looked up the Whipples procedure on You Tube, apart from your explanation of it, I had never heard about it before, it amazes me how many people have had it, from reading lots of comments on the John Hopkins medicine channel about people of all ages having had this op, with 500 comments and great explanation in picture form I realuze how little I knew about back when I had a blockage, only finding out 6 weeks after my op was I told by my doctor I had about a foot of my small intestine removed. It was in 1982 I was 24 years old, there is so much information nowadays but I was completely in the dark and it was scary to be told I needed an op as they were pretty sure they knew what it was and my life returned to normal, thank goodness we have our NHS with qualified surgeons to perform these procedures and wonderful nurses who work on the intensive care units, I cannot fault them and I cannot blame them for going on strike.
