Morning Michael. Great podcast style blog as usual. In response to your question about why track days and why not racing... The answer in my case anyway is simple, If I race and crash, my wife will outright ban me from riding motorbikes and rightly so because I'm the sole breadwinner. The risk is too great. I own multiple sportsbikes and riding them on a track seems to be a happy medium.

@Floyd completely agree. Risk versus reward. Going round in circles whilst channelling a bit of Bagnania is enough for me too.

Some folks might not enjoy the intensity of racing. I raced production 350LCs many years ago, nowadays I'm happy to do a few track days each year just for fun. There's no pressure to ride to the ragged edge but it still feels great to be free to go as fast as you want in a controlled environment.

@@Floyd-df2uq many years ago now I was offered something special but I decided not to take it. 🤔 do I regret it A little bit yes 🤷🏻‍♂️ hell you never know we’re it could have gone But it was different then. Thinking about it 🤔 all I really needed was someone to be telling me you got this I’m behind you all the way But hay ho All I could think about was that I was the main breadwinner and I couldn’t let them down.

Great ramble Neevesy, I used to love thrashing my Thunderace and R1 and ZX12R, bought a BMW S1000R and was thrilled first of all but then realized the electronics were making me feel like a biking god. Now I'm on my second Superduke R coz I can switch all that stuff off. Nearly 60 now and I've never flipped a big bike. Dirt bikes when I was young and bulletproof yes. I too would love a big fat 600 scooter with a top box for beer runs on the weekend

Nice to hear an unbiased comparison of the helmets. I've got a Shoei X-SPR and before that I had a Shark race r pro GP. The lining inside was so much nicer than the shoei and it was incredibly quiet. I'd reccomend trying one out. Glad to see Billy Burke is still lapping, ive not seen him for a couple of years since he got his V4 Tuono a good while back.

Well to my mind, "learning the craft" at track days in the 90's most likely meant having accidents! I want to go fast but I also don't want to crash the bike I'm riding home on... so great electronics are a god send for me! With my first track day of this year I kept the electronics on a relatively safe mode. If I were to manage several more this year then I'd start turning the electronics down as my confidence at speed increased.

Love what you bring us 🙏 On the subject of riding with electronics etc.. One thing that stands out for me is poor riding habits from not learning on a basic bike with a half decent coach, gaining good habits and techniques. Building your abilities to understand what is actually going on with the bike. With a solid foundation you will be much superior in all aspects of riding along with understanding basic tuning of the bikes systems. The adventure of it all, why wouldn’t you, would be my question ? Thank you for another great video master Neevesy

Great information as usual. I think that the endurance question on track could add another bit of advice. As like anything we learn after repetition you gain CONDITIONING to whatever you are performing. Getting used to using the necessary movements and muscles over time become a little easier -so with good flexibility and fitness, conditioning is a big aspect in moving forward 👍

I took my 24 R1 to track last week for the first time. have been riding a '09 R6 on track and I realised how good the electronics are on these new bikes specially my R1. For a trackday enthusiast like me, not chasing laptimes but seeking maximum thrill for my level, i believe electronics is a good thing. Makes me take the corners just like my old R6 and really open it up in the corner exits and feel the brutal power of the 200hp

I bought my first Arai in 87, a Wes Coooley rep. Then a Christian Sarron and then a Doohan rep. They were a big step up from my previous helmets. Around 2000 I changed to Shoei, an Alex Barros rep, and have stuck with them ever since. I think they are now the best helmet but I've changed to the J Cruise, an open face and I love wearing it.

First of all, your girlfriend is a lot braver than me! I want to say thanks for your advice on using the rear brake. I was out on the Ffestiniog road (B4391) in North Wales yesterday with a much quicker rider who was 'all-in' on every corner. I was riding quite tight to begin with as i was out of my comfort zone. Then i started dragging the rear brake around the tight corners, especially downhill corners - what a game changer! I don't think the others were doing this as on the second half of the day they were struggling to keep-up! Once you get the hang of it, it really does give you much more control and confidence into corners, scrubbing a bit of speed and helping the bike turn! Thanks so much! James

Great videos mister . Keep them coming. Question about electronics on bikes : haven't You answered all the questions by buying the gsx-r 750 with no electronics ? Electonics help in everyway , but now when all the bikes are so fast (maybe even to fast) , a good setup is also important , just like rider training is . 90% of us mortals would be faster around track on a good r7 then on a s1000rr with race setup. But i'm no expert , and would love to hear some other opinions. Thanks P.s. : would like to see motogp with no electronics again too

On the subject of trackday endurance. I feel a lot has to do with track conditions as well. If you're riding at Sepang, for example - no amount of technique or fitness will counteract the brutal heat and 90% humidity levels. Sometimes, it's just wise to just box and end a session early rather than push through with fatigue. No shame in that.

Anyways, I have a Gen4 zx10r and it has those 90s 3-spoke wheels. I've always threatened to get some lovely aftermarket ones, like dymag (UP7X), Oz (gass RS) , marchesini (m7rs) etc. but don't really know the different between them. Are you aware? And what's your opinion? I've already swapped most oem parts for aftermarket goodies too like, ktech suspension, Hel callipers, bremo M/C, mapped, exhaust, clipons, resets etc (and Ventura Luggage). and I love the bike. I only really do 3ish track days a year, and the rest of the time on the road (2k miles) of commuting and playing. TIA!

Yet, the same engine in Euro5+ spec is found in the tall rounder they have just released this year and the rest of the bike is already designed. Is this an excuse not to make them?

Hi Neevesy...thinking about UK tracks, there aren't many with a lot of left-hand corners because theyre mainly clockwise tracks. Also, on the road it's riskier sending it fast into a left-hander, because if you misjudge it you could end up having a head-on with an oncoming car. So, do you have any advice for improving the left-handers, either a certain track or maybe road? I know all of the usual tips apply but i just don't have the muscle-memory on the LHS and i can feel it especially in slower corners. Thanks v much.

Hey Neevesy, been watching your channel since your first thanks for asking video I hope this late question gets through. I have had the luck in life to be able to afford a 22 panigale v4s after watching your review on it and was a great bike to own. I managed to buy a second hand track bike with a friend which is a 2012 s1000rr which has an ohlins rear shock and tuned front forks to roughly my weight and instantly fell in love with how it handles compared to the V4S. I have been forced to upgrade from the v4s after a mishap and decided to go all in and buy a 24 m1000rr competition after falling in love with the 12 year old track pig. Your review regarding the m1000rr in your opinion the panigale was a better feeling bike, I know everyone has different opinions regarding riding style and comfort, but was the m1000rr really that bad compared to the v4s? I am hopefully picking up the M in a week. Thanks.

G'day to you neevesy, I also had blast with the kocinski interview, I especially enjoy hearing about the older 2 strokes, so I really apreciated when he went on about his 250 bikes. With 250 2 strokes in mind, especially given that you have raced them back in the day, is it possible to get proper quick on a smaller 2 stroke as somebody whose only starting to ride in their mid 20's? I ask because Im a mechanical engineering student whose 21, Ill only be able to ride quick when I get a job that can afford me a bike I feel comfortable going quick on, not just poodle on the streets with a cheap scooter. With me being a mechanical engineering student I know very well a lot of the science and physics behind how bikes and cars go around a track, would that be any advantage to me later when I start thrashing a smaller bike like 125 - 2stroke or 250 four stroke for the first time? Or is this a case of everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face?

I’m looking to buy a bike to use mainly on the road and to do some trackdays on. I’ve narrowed it down to either a GSX-R750 L1-> or a Street Triple RS 20-22. I’ve gone the route from racing (125 gp & STK600) to road riding, so I’m quite used to riding in a full on race position allthough I’m a bit worried the 750 still will be a bit to sporty for everyday road riding. Atleast compared to the ST RS. What are your thoughts on the comparison between these two? Thanks for a great channel and som fantastic content. Cheers from Sweden!

I enjoy the electronics on my KTM yet never get the maximum out of it probably because I learned to ride without them and just can't get myself to rely on them, a life long career repairing aircraft electronics might also have contributed 😉 Riding old not so good bikes, which I still do, probably gives an extra skill set but also a rather wide safety bandwidth which isn't always beneficial on a modern bike. On the other hand I see people people go very fast without understanding or feeling "how, what or why", ever followed a manager in a Audi ? You instantly know right..... 😅

Ez I wanted to ask if you had any options on faired bikes vs naked and if there is any difference in speed and acceleration, for example the cb650r vs cbr650r if you was to put them against eachother on a track or on a road they both have the same engine but would the fairing really make much of a difference in the cornering or in a line I am aware that drag and wind resistance is a things and this is why they have fairing but if you tuck in on a naked bike you can reduce the drag so am wondering what your thoughts are on this.? If you haven't already been asked?

@@neevesybikes thank you! After setting preload and baseline rebound and compression on my bike, I’ve enjoyed firming up the compression and rebound for riding in the twisties so the range of travel is less under harder braking and exiting corners. I feel more capable of adjusting my line mid-corner but worry that in the case of losing grip either wheel would wash out more abruptly. Is this an actual or simply a perceived risk? I found stiffer settings to reward more committed cornering but concerned that it would turn normally slight scares into actually falls. Thanks Neevsey, not really riding a bike in the same class as most commenters here but love the chasing gradual improvements. 🙏

So let me get this straight; you've changed over the years, become well rounded, then someone called you fat and you lost the weight. Have I got that the right way round? 🤔😉 Funnily enough I got well rounded as I got older and if I ever meet you, you can call me fat. Maybe then I'll loose the weight 😃

No safe means no consequences which equals 'why do it in the first place I like consequences of f...... up = hurt , that's why u shake with adrenaline when uv been riding at the limit , if u new it was 100% safe I bet u wouldn't do it , hence why we like rock climbing or sky diving

Are you a good rider, though, if you rely on electronics? Or are you, in fact, deficient because you're not really understanding how to ride a bike properly?

love these videos! keep the Gixxer content coming, also you give such honest insight into biking its so refreshing. I have just converted from road motocross as I am from a strong mountain bike background but wondered if there are any skills that I could transfer
