LYRICS: I reach the end of the day And what do I see? Everyone I know is invited Out to the party But me! And why not I? Am I so cringe that you’d leave me to die? And I say, Oh, this woe, I’d best let go But… NO! (I shout fantastically) (And write my words sarcastically!) Thanks for the invite No really I don’t mind I’m just a little surprised to find That as a friend, I’m not worth your time Thanks for the invite You hate me no big deal Maybe I’m just too real for you And you don’t like the way that honesty feels! STOP! That’s quite enough… Peter from HR! Indeed. Now listen close… Let’s get one thing clear You’re not real You’re just crass It is one thing sharing facts And another being a total ass Your social grace is non-existent Cause you missed The crucial years Of young existence Where those manners are insisted Now you brutalize those near you And cause misery with your words This “Thanks for the invite” Reaffirms why you weren’t Invited in the first place Is it too late my friend? That all depends on you! But till yee've grown more pleasant to be around We bid good day, adieu But the harsh truths We do acknowledge Still tonight, we choose to chill But all the flaws? Who does not have them But the good is greater still For though world be full of darkness It is not without it’s light Before yee harp on those around yee Look inside, and win THAT fight. My friend… GOODBYE! *Imaterializes*

That’s where fake it til you make it comes into play. Look for things without invites. Public events. Introduce yourself. Fail, fail, fail, but learn! Create your own opportunities. It’s more difficult when things are closed due to COVID (or you live in a tiny rural town with no public events) but if we must play the hand we’re dealt, we must play it with gusto! Carry on, brother. You have will, now put it to action. - Sincerely, The Earl of Marsden, who has shed Lord Ruthven’s unyielding demeanor in favor of a character more personable.

Honestly - sometimes the guy who isn't invited isn't the bad guy. Sometimes people are super cruel and leave somebody out of a party or social gathering on purpose to hurt them. Somebody did this to me and I didn't know they had until they straight up confessed it to me later. They were mad that I wasn't hurt and spilled the beans to me later in an unhinged conniption.

Man… It’s things like this that make me realize that “speedrunning” my social development was at much a blessing as a curse. I thought I peaked in second grade, became a bitter outcast before middle school, a tired burnout by then, discovering myself in freshman year of high school what many do throughout college, and finding my people by senior year. I’m not of the belief that it’s necessarily good for children, minds not fully developed, to have total access to the the world’s information and adult interactions otherwise shielded from them. Even still I wouldn’t trade my education from the internet for the world, as for an undiagnosed autistic outcast, I learned the social lessons none of my peers were going to teach me. Reaching my “Thanks for the invite!” stage in 6th grade, when it really didn’t matter, meant I matured beyond that stage even sooner. Personal anecdotes aside, what a brilliant opera! You capture the unspoken melodrama of social interaction so perfectly. From “You’re Slightly Late (and I’m Having A Panic Attack)” to “Return of The Realistic Party,” and now this? Making me feel again like I’m “Vincent Malloy, seven years old.” The emotion!

Elsewhere, another man is not invited He knows that there was no malice, he simply wasn't in anyone's mind Tomorrow he'll ask about the party to roll the dice on whether he'll be remembered He wonders, is it really worse to be hated and uninvited than to be forgotten? He wonders if he's bland enough to be this unrememberable He wonders if his shyness will prevent him from ever sticking to someone else's mind The day after tomorrow, he will roll the dice

I mean I don't think I was ever an arse about it, but I am socially awkward and my friends just stopped inviting me to anything, then destroying my self confidence and making it harder to be a fun person that you would want to invite. Thankfully I broke the cycle with university, and now I've got a group of friends that do enjoy my company, and in return I'm happier to be there, but man it sucks to see a group of people where every single one you spend time with in lunch breaks etc. and then not one of them wanted you there enough to invite you.
