To even have one Stone, you had to be the best of the most exceptionally powerful. Otherwise it could kill you. To have all six? And survive? Should tell you Thanos was powerful on a scale not many can fathom. He was a master of sorcery. That was never mentioned in the Marvel movies. His technology was FAR more advanced than anything Stark could dream about. His mind rivaled the most powerful telepathic and telekinetic that Marvel has. Only the Hulk surpassed his strength but Thanos could augment his strength with his vast array of other energies. His fighting skills? He was like Captain Marvel but of so many other fighting styles from thousands of galaxies. He was a master assassin. His IQ was off the charts. And he is old..... time to learn anything from anywhere. He is definitely one of the greatest, most powerful villains in every category of all time.

Without his stones? Maybe if he stands still lol the portals take time to open and close. The big alien guy had to fall into it first before it cut his hand off. With his stones thanos can just use the space stone to force it open, or turn it into a toy hoop with the reality stone. In IW doctor strange’s strongest spells got overridden by the stones.
