I fell in love with SUPERTRAMP back in 1977 with the "Even in the Quietest Moment" LP.

Supertramp is the most underrated band. I urge people to listen to "Crisis? What Crisis?" and the non-hits. Thanks for the interview, John!

No one ever gets the humor of the title perhaps because of the question marks. It hit me like a slap in the face: "Cry Sister what Christ is!" Did everyone get this bit of subtlety and I'm just dense?

Breakfast in America is a perfect album. Every track has a powerful impact on me.

I definitely think Supertramp were one of the coolest and most underrated band's of all time. They didn't sound like every other band out there and that for me was part of their charm. That and consistently strong material. I don't think anyone wants to see a great band end, but look at the incredible legacy they have left for us to enjoy.

Best concert I ever saw was just Roger Hodgson and one other guy accompanying on various instruments

Very hard for me to explain to people just how good the "Breakfast in America" tour was in 1978. I still think for that periof of time Supertramp was the best concert experience going.

Thanks for this, John. Love your channel. Supertramp was a phenomenal band and "Breakfast In America" is one of the best recorded LPs I've ever heard. Carl Verheyen went to the same music school I went to, and I remember how excited we all were when he got that gig. Keep up the good work!!

I had tickets to see Supertramp w/Rick, John, and Bob at the O2 in London. I was moving to London for my Masters, but bought my ticket nearly a year in advanced. I was supremely disappointed that the tour was cancelled because although I’d previously seen Roger perform a great show, I was curious about the more recent incarnation of the band. And nowadays, I tend to gravitate more to Rick’s songs. I’m glad Rick is better now and I hope them tour again at some point, but we shall see.

I recently saw some interview snippets from Roger and Rick regarding Roger leaving. They were both pretty diplomatic about it. But it sure seems like Roger's ego got in the way to the point that he didn't want his songs mixed with Ricks. And some harsh words must have been said for them to have never repaired the damage.
@richarddavis55422 жыл бұрын
It is always difficult for a quality band like Supertramp to put together a final tour or performance. So many of the members have struggled with health issues. Either way, they would have to include Roger and I'm not sure that could ever happen.

Even in the Quietest Moments- totally underrated album, perhaps my second fave after Breakfast… Phenomenally great band, so much great music and profound lyrics. Sad they had to call it quits. The 1978 USA tour - what a show that was!!!

I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 4 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.

I thought the third would be "Even in the Quietest Moments". Great songs on this Give a Little Bit, Fool's Overture, From Now On, Babaji, and the title track, every song is good. But so, was Crisis? What Crisis? To me their first 4 albums are fantastic. Get better Rick Davies!

I saw Supertramp three different tours before Roger left and once after he was gone. All of the shows were exceptional, but the latter had too many horns for my taste. John’s saxes and woodwinds didn’t need any help as far as I was concerned. It was also quite evident how much Roger brought to the band. They will always be in my top 5 all time on any list !!

Rick had been working forever in bands fourteen years before he met Roger. I could be off a bit. Shoot, Rick had to quit playing for awhile so he could help support the family.

As far as i am concerned, Crime Of The Century was #1 followed by Crisis and then Even in the Quietest Moments. Breakfast comes in at#4. The later albums without Roger are very good as well. Never understood why people thought they were no good without Roger! I preferred Rick's voice any day.

I like Supertramp..I always did...but I have always been puzzled why they seem to be classified as "Rock", "AOR Rock", or nowadays, as "Classic Rock"..when I hear them, I hear(and always did) pure pop, or pop rock...

I was driving down Highway 6 in Washington state. I picked up a hitchhiker. He said he had just got out of college and was off on a adventure. I asked him his name. He said Alix Super Bum . I told him that sounds a little fruity doesn't it? Super Tramp has broken up and Alix Supertramp would sound better don't you think. He did change it but I didn't find that out until later. I let him out in Hoquium, and never saw him again in person. I later watched a documentary about rights of passage. Alix Supertramp was the star of the show . It seems he made it to alaska. Then starved to death. It's a little but shocking to be a part of that journey. I did help a little bit. That's all any of us can do for each other is help a little bit.

Rock, Progressive rock, Pop music, Pop rock, Art rock, Soft rock, New wave, Progressive pop. I hated Rock stations placing "FOLK MUSIC" on air in the U.S. This is not Def Lepard, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest nor Rolling Stone for Pedro's sake. These are the beta male version of Abba. This is Taylor Twerp Shiite...

Great band but why oh why not hire a talented singer? The voice is an instrument too and these guys would never have tolerated as poor a musician as their singers' voices.
