In this video, my buddy Stav and I are fishing in a small urban creek in Texas!
Stav hooks a nice flathead, and I end up missing a few fish, before something very heavy and slow takes my bait.
This accidental catch was one of the coolest of my life. No other animal demands respect like the Alligator Snapping Turtle!
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING, STAY TUNED FOR MORE MONSTERS!

I don't think I've ever been disappointed to catch a turtle. We don't have alligator snappers up here in Kentucky but we have plenty of regular snapping turtles that get up to 20-30lbs and they are delicious. I'd rather eat turtle than fish any day. I mostly just catch and release fish.

The Alligator Snapping Turtle is truly an animal not to be fucked with. I've had 3 encounters with one of these monsters before, and it hasn't always gone my way. Thank you for turning that beautiful turtle loose!! I am 55 now, when I was 14 playing on the edge of a Bayou in Louisiana I came across one way bigger than Lurch at the Dallas Aquarium. These older guys paddled up in a canoe and I was telling them about it. They did not believe me, so one guy goes bare foot sticking it in the muddy water. I screamed "No you dont understand this turtle is REAL BIG!!!" Turtles head flung by his leg like a dragon as he was hopping away in terror. Turtle calmly walked out and onto the sandbar like a baby dinosaur. They drug their canoe over and barely got it in the canoe and loaded it it their truck and took off saying they would be back and turn it loose and drive it by my house to prove how big it was. I was there waiting till dark, no turtle. I hope it made them sick if they ate it.

We have some huge ones on the river we live on in Alabama .They tend to leave humans alone unless they are bothered .My wife fishes around them all the time and has caught a lot of them which were released unharmed .She has never had any issues with Alligator Gar either which she has caught and released .She has cut herself more on the scales and shell releasing both more than anything else .The most dangerous creatures on the river are not the alligators ,turtles ,cottonmouths or even bears but feral hogs .Why she always carries her Mauser and a high caliber pistol with her while fishing .It is to protect herself from hogs not snakes or alligators .She tries to avoid the areas they hang out in if she can .I would put my money more on a hog killing a human than a snapping turtle .I formerly did water retrieval in our local rescue unit .It is a bad thing to witness after the turtles ,gators and catfish have a meal on a drowning victim .Sad but that is just nature being nature .They will bite and it is brutal when they do but they generally avoid humans if possible .Most get bitten by stepping on them wading or tempting those jaws and beak in foolish acts usually after one too many adult beverages .

I had always heard about the Alligator Snapping Turtle here in Missouri when I was younger and the only one I had seen was the one that Bass Pro Shop had freshwater in tank in Springfield, MO. Then one day my Dad and I were out fishing for smallmouth and goggle-eye(rock bass) in a jon boat on one of the rivers where I grew up fishing and I saw a Alligator Snapper in shallow water the top of the shell was at least 3 foot in diameter its head was close the size of a basketball....yes huge! I so wish that I could have gotten a picture of it, but it defiantly was a sight to see! I guessed it to be 100 - 120 lbs. but that might be underestimating it! So I understand why you got so excited when you caught this one! Nice flathead and blue cat catches 👍 ! Also the dingy water will make the blues take on a more whiter light skin color.

Biggest I have held is around 75 ish pounds. They town I am in drained a pond for dredge work last year, and forgot to deal with the 50 or so gator snappers in there once it was drained. WOW! He was beautiful, and dangerous. I remember these as a kid when we lived in FLA. Got bit by one once, of course, it was much smaller. LOL! Thanks for shariing.

Alligator snapping turtles are awesome! That was a nice one! I’ve seen quite a few of the 10-20 Ib ones here in NC but never one that big in the wild! Such cool critters!

At least you didn't have a stringer of fish in the water. Had that happen a couple times when fishing with stealth ninja turtles eating my catch and pulling up a stringer of fish heads! Cool video dude!

Last time fishing I caught soft shell turtle about 25 to 30 pds . Lake Corpus Christi. Gasper Goo (fresh water black drum ) 7 pds Several ten pound. Channel cats The was still awesome catch and something to learn I didn't know they were endangered . I haven't seen or caught one in a very long time . How long have they been endangered?
@TyPigPatrol

I think they have been classified as endangered about 20 years, but i could be wrong. thank you for watching!

There was a snapper in this old pond I used to fish in years ago, and he was probably 50+ pounds. I never caught him but I did get an up close look at him once. I noticed my stringer of bluegill moving and when I went to pull the stringer out he was latched onto one of them. I often wonder if forty years later he’s still around this particular old pond.

Wow Ty, that was awesome! I always try and remove hooks from all turtle species but I don't know about one like that. You're fearless bro!
@TyPigPatrol
@TyPigPatrol 3 жыл бұрын
heard about a tactic where you cut your line, take a small PVC pipe and put it in its mouth and press on the bend with the pipe to get the hook out. I am going to try that next time, instead of risking my hands!
@AJMoore36
@AJMoore36 3 жыл бұрын
@@TyPigPatrol yeah you should try that. Those animals are majestic but there is only one you bro. I get why you got down in there with it... would be hard not to. They are just dangerous man.

I seen the picture of the turtle 🐢 and it reminded me of the time when my husband and I was going to a friend's house in Maury City near Dyersburg TN. We was going down the road and near the Forked Deer River there was this huge snapping turtle, not as big as that one, going across the road so we stopped and put the tail gate down. My husband got a stick to tease him with and I come up behind him and grabbed it by the tail and threw it up in the back of the truck. We took it to the ones house we was going to. They cleaned and cooked it that night!

Nice! Is it just me or was that turtle totally relieving itself as you pulled it out of the water? Hahahaha keep up the good work! I have been thinking of getting in some good crappie and catfish fishing here in the DFW area. Any suggestions?
@TyPigPatrol

I didnt think it was but apparently every other comment thinks it was haha! I have never fished up there man, but if you see what I do in my catfish and crappie videos, try it up there! small jigs around tunnels and structure, for crappie, and cut bait on the bottom for the kitties!
