Buy a diamond foot file. As in file with industrial diamond shards. Good stuff. But prevention is the best way to deal with it, buy some urea foot cream and smear your soles followed by covering with cotton socks weekly, nightly, or whatever frequency your soles need for preventing build-up. Using a file or cream too often compared to your skin needs will leave your skin too raw, do don't overdo it.

I like to watch your hoof trimming even though I don't know anything about it. The first foot got a block on the good left-hoof but not on the injured right-hoof, so would that be an uneven load upon that foot? Would placing a block on the right-hoof give it protection from dirt getting into the repair and also provide even foot loading?
@dianer.94614 жыл бұрын
Watch more videos. The block is used to keep weight off the injured claw and allow healing to take place.
@NatetheHoofGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yes the block is used to intentionally put all the weight on the good claw allowing the injured claw time to heal.
@kittykat-meow4 жыл бұрын
@mikel77, I think your question is whether the block change the height of the legs, which possibly a potential limb risk, right? My gut feeling It is probably not a big deal. like human, we rarely land both feet at the same time; a little difference on cow’s leg length is not a big deal.

As a former dairyman I enjoy your educational and entertaining bovine videos! S. Carolina

It does put extra weight on that claw but it’s the best way to heal the injured claw. As long as the block is applied correctly and the foot angle is good, we rarely see problems associated with the application of blocks.
