I watched live how an engine was washed by using the crank mode. It was a GE CF-6 of a MD-11F, which was on a testbed. The engine just came from a repair and overhaul shop and had to be tested. It was mandatory to wash the engine so that the test results were as accurate as possible. The engine had to be washed prior of the test program. The test included idle thrust and maximum takeoff thrust for 5 minutes. After the test the engine had to be balanced by mounting certain screws at the hub where the nose cone is. The imbalance was measured during the testing.

I want to thank you, especially for this video. Because I asked about this in one of your live streams. Thank you again for taking the time and effort to explain this subject. Like all your videos, it was very revealing and informative for me. Now everything is clear in my head about this function. I always wish you a blue sky.

Once we have dry motored the engine of a 737 to cool the engine down because it was too hot to open the fan cowls. As you can imagine it is a huge cooling fan when it is not ignited.

Hi Emi, can you do a tutorial on how to read weather conditions in the OFP and decide about anti-ice etc... what's consider a weather to avoid, what's consider icing-conditions/turbulences/..., how to anticipate them etc etc etc thanks!

Are there any planes in the sim currently that simulator an engine tailpipe fire? Perhaps as part of a "failures" feature set? That would be quite cool. Then this procedure would actually be useful.

Great video, Emi! After an engine tailpipe fire, could normal operations continue immediately (provided the procedure is succesful and no extinguishers are needed), or would crew/engineer inspection be required?

The 787 to my knowledge uses an electric starter, can it still crank the engines for a longer time? Electric starters in smaller planes always have time restrictions in Ordner not to either overheat them or drain the battery. Or does the engine start in the 787 work with pneumatics but just driven by electricity like the packs?

I don't understand why this crank position exists as we can obtain the same effect with a manual start without putting fuel switch to on in the ign mode.

Hm..when dry cranking, i noticed that egt's not only didn't start falling but even lightly increased ? One would think that this mass of air being sucked in would make it all cool ? Or is it becouse of warm apu air that is being used to motor the engine ? Btw yes on the manual start vid :)
@Noilburger
@Noilburger 29 күн бұрын
I think this happenes when the engine has recently run. The temp probe is quite far back in the engine. When you start cranking it hot air from the core of the engine is pushed to the probe first, increasing the temperature. This is just latent heat because the engine recently ran. Soon after the temperature should start decreasing.
@vedymin1
@vedymin1 29 күн бұрын
@@Noilburger One way to check would be to load a c&d scenario and see if the probe would start reacting, from what i read, hot, high-pressure air is bled off from the APU's compressor and fed to an intermediate stage within the main engines to crank them ? That air would encounter that probe later ?

When you do an engine wash you crack the engine for 2 minutes in the A330 with the trent 700 engine don't know if it is the same on other planes or engine types
