Great little camper. A couple of thoughts to improve it: 1. Rear cargo door with window in lieu of just the window. 2. Two burner cooktop for more counter space. Maybe add a flip up counter. 3. Shrink the dinette by a few inches and get some sort of storage pantry between the slide and bathroom.

Wow! Talk about jamming all you can, Jayco did an awesome job, and nice and light to boot. 👍 For the tv, maybe some kind of extending arm mount, that puts it more in front of the door would be a bit better, as long as no one tries to get in or out…

Yes and cuddle compliant theater seats. And I wonder, has anybody been hurt using those telescoping ladders? Is it that much difference in price to put on a real ladder. I'm no spring chicken so please add back an attached ladder. And to echo Josh, where's the splash guard to the right of the stove? And could use a small counter extension on the left of the sink. And yes again Josh - cargo door in the back.

@@JoshtheRVNerd I don’t understand how a dinette can protrude so far but theater seating isn’t possible, but I guess I’ll have to settle for a cheaper less comfortable jackknife sofa option😂
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd Жыл бұрын
@@stevez340 It's not about slide depth. It's about where the floor of the slide starts. Theater seats need to start at the floor level to have proper space for the reclining mechanism and structure below them. When a slide is above the floor like this that means the sofa would start 6-9" higher up in the air. If you tried to climb into that sofa, then your feet would be off the ground and your head thru the slide box ceiling.

My Dad purchased one of these is 2021 and we use this thing all over. He loves the brush guards! He and my Mom do a lot of off pavement camping down narrow seasonal roads that are poorly maintained. Those things have saved his camper many times. He bought it because he wanted to be able to sleep 6 adults comfortably which is accomplished. This camper is perfect for off pavement weekend outings as well as doing some good old fashioned park camping. My wife and I accompanied my parents on a week long UP trip and loved this camper. His basic tow package F150 pulls this thing easily. I 10/10 recommend. Also Josh he decided to buy this camper after watching your older video on it.

Change? Two burner cooktop and a bit more counterspace, OR, add a proper oven and get rid of the microwave. I suspect that the reason they do what they do is that furrion doesn't have a good two burner cooktop, and the market research says people want a microwave. But I feel like these are a boondock camper, and few people are using the microwave. And nobody is using three burners in a unit this size... especially with the outdoor kitchen. The other thing I'd love, speaking of the outdoor kitchen, is some sort of spigot or even sink. When cooking stuff, having access to water, a cooking surface, and some sort fridge is what you need. (Also, a 12 volt fridge for outside as well as inside). As to the brush guards, having a 171BH, they do help protect the body from the bumps and dings that go with going somewhere other than pavement.. While not "rated" to be stepped on, I think that's mostly about safety and not falling off, not about the strength of the bars themselves. These aren't "rock crawler" units by any means, but going off paved roads isn't unrealistic, and bumping into rocks, or just keeping tree branches a little bit further away from the body is nice. But I could see these being an option for people who weren't planning to go off pavement.

If I could change one thing it would be the AC. I like to have air blowing right on me when I sleep so would prefer a unit where the air intakes are on the sides and it has front and rear cold air outlets. They should get rid of the brush bars. These trailers aren't strong enough for overland use and even if they were the brush bars are too light weight to be effective. Removing them would also give back a bit of weight to the cargo capacity. I feel the same about the roof rack. It is so close to the AC that you won't be able to put much up there without risk of damage to the AC. In regards to your comment about the tow vehicle Aux line (i.e. charge line). Many newer trucks use a small gauge wire that will only handle low current draws. Depending upon the manufacturer and truck model I've seen 16 and 18 gauge wires which is enough to maintain a charged battery and run the other basic low current stuff in your average travel trailer. It is why in my 2015 F-150 I ran my own Aux line with all of the fixins using 8 gauge wire so I would not discharge the trailer battery when using a 3-way fridge on the 12V heater while driving. With this in mind I would qualify the jack statement to say you might be able to use the tow vehicle to provide enough power to use the jack or slides when you have a discharged battery. I'd test it out before assuming.

Is that hitch weight of 655 pounds before or after it’s filled with propane and I would go the way of ember and make that top bunk foldable or do it in a Jayco way where you can lift up that little piece that extends roll it underneath the bunk
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd Жыл бұрын
Always before. Loaded hitch weight varies by user and can only be estimated until scaled after loaded

Cargo bunk is nice. Needs a door. What does the inverter option power vs this rig inside? You mention it’s pre-wired for an inverter. Just curious what that might power if one picked option 2 for solar instead of option one. Will an after market inverter added later do the same thing as the option 2 Solar package? Excellent review. Looks a lot like the Ember but a bit less money.

@@JoshtheRVNerd Thank you. Jayco does not do a good job in explaining these different Overland solar packages. Option one has one panel no inverter. Option two comes with two panels and a 1800 watt inverter, but they don’t say what that does. How many outlets it powers, devices (TV, Frig, etc..), have they updated the wiring between the batteries and the inverter, etc… Is it better to get option one and upgrade it later with an inverter, proper gauge for the inverter and batteries if the trailer is pre wired?

Two very different models there. Laminated no-slide with a lot of stuff vs. basic stick and tin with slide. I don't really put the two into the same comparison buckets so it's difficult for me to offer an answer. The Jay Feather 199MBS lines up in terms of floor plan with the 184BHS Catalina. Obviously still very different equipment packages and build styles on them. If I was going to go one way or the other, then I'd likely be a more basic camper like the catalina. I just don't camp enough to justify the extra widgets and wizbangs. But what I'd choose and why may not line up with the goals you're seeking to accomplish.

Hey josh I have the 166fbs jay o which is the same size as this. If they would have had this set up before I got mine I would have chose this one. Since you are in the industry can please pass along to the manufacturers to stop putting 110 volt outside fridges and put in a small 12 volt cooler instead. The other thing can please pass along is stop using those cheap 1970's thermostats for the furnace and put in digital ones.that's a joke when you are paying forty thousand for a trailer.
