I'll tell you a secret, it's actually not! XD I'm just good at... masking it!! 8D eh? ...ok, it was a terrible pun, but yeah, it's partially rotoscoping, partially chromakeying, partially masking the old fashion way, and partially just picking the right backgrounds and the right effects, it takes work but the final result is mostly 'smoke' ;P

Well, it's basically all videoediting: personally, I use adobe premiere for the editing and adobe after effect for all the compositing: that includes cutting the characters from their original movie through an instrument called rotoscope and then purting all the layers of the scene together. It's more than just that, but if you look for crossover tutorials you should find many examples ;)
