Catching the snitch ends the game, meaning that it's not "a lucky break", it's the final objective of the game, making Rowling's tweet even more stupid.

Changes to make more sense 1 : Let the snitch end the game but no Points so the seeker not only has to catch it but Always has to look if his/her Team is actually Winning if he/she does catch it. Changes to make more sense 2 : Time Limit on the whole game, but give it Points so that it put pressure on the other Team. Changes to make more sense 2.5 : Time Limit on the whole game, give it Points, but the seeker has to hold it at the end of the game so stealing and bludging the snitch out of the seekers Hand becomes a Thing.

For me this game is a microcosm of the entire Harry Potter world. I could never get into it because it never felt like it had any solid or consistent logic to it. It felt like JK just wrote whatever funny whimsical or odd thing that popped in to her head as she went, not worrying about the internal consistency of the world or the effect it had on past or future events. Made the world feel groundless to me, and therefore, effect-less
@CrowRider19995 жыл бұрын
With how dangerous the game is, you’d have to wonder how compensation would work if someone died. “Billy, no! He was so passionate about Quidditch and now he’s dead!” “I’m sorry, Mary, he was an exceptional student. We’ll compensate you in any way we can to honor his life.” Seriously, I can see lawsuits happening of something went wrong with this! Flying high in the air while people throw metal balls at you while other people try to catch this smaller flying ball? That’s basically the ultimate recipe for lawsuit disaster!

Well, healing magic can do things like grow back bones that were completely removed, so the only real way you can get killed from falling is from a neck break.

All things considered, one would think that Quidditch would be classified as an extreme sport, a.k.a. a sport that children would never be allowed to participate in, because the risk of death is high. Ooh, next video's gonna be about why the gender discussion is stupid? How many marshmallows do I need? I need to know how intense the flame wars are gonna be.
@AnYEntertainment5 жыл бұрын
Good question - the viewership I still have this day is mostly chill people and hardcore fans, so it might actually go over without much flame after all. But there is always the chance, that the video gets posted somewhere, with easily triggered folks or that it pops up in the recommended bar next to other bigger videos talking about gender politics Guess we have to wait and see...

JK actually said she conceived this game to be as absurd and disproportionate as possible because she had a fight with her then boyfriend. No, I'm not joking.

I think in the first book they mention that games can be comedicly short or long because of the snitch, and a side book has a pretty silly story of how the snitch came to be. Although; can’t regular sports get you just as injured?

Hey ANY it's been awhile sorry been out of check, I've had a lot going on past few months but I'm working on making it better. I always found a Quidditch game speak white fun in the few movies that I saw but now I agree with you if you have one player can win the whole game just like catching or doing one thing then yeah kind of defeats the purpose of the fun of the game. So great analysis looking forward to more. I'm about to come join those live streams you put out sometimes they look interesting.

I suppose that catching the Snitch could be fewer points, maybe downplayed to just 50 or something like that. But a Quidditch game can last for a long time because of the fact that the game doesn't end until the Seeker catches the snitch. In universe, there have been games that have gone on for days. I wouldn't know how they could continue playing for that long unless there are substitutes. But that's a different discussion. As for injuries, that's more common in sports than you think. Football for example (and I mean American Football, not the version of Football that we Americans call Soccer) is a sport that you have to take into consideration how many people have suffered head injuries and even brain damage from playing. Get your teeth knocked out in Hockey? An easy fix for wizards. I doubt they go into those games without knowing the risk of injury. And I'm sure the same goes for Quidditch. I agree that the Beaters should focus more on the Seekers. But considering that the game doesn't end until the Seeker catches the Snitch, I'm sure the Beaters will want the game to end eventually. Am I defending the game? Maybe a little. But I completely agree that it could be improved. After all, other sports have been modified as time went on. So what do you think? Would the game make a little more sense of the Snitch was reduced to 50 points, the Beaters focused more on the Seekers, and perhaps the ground is enchanted to reduce injury?
@AnYEntertainment5 жыл бұрын
I totally had forgotten to include the fact that the Seeker also is the one who ends the game! Then again, it doesn't really add much to the overall stupidity of the game and simply emphasis the overpoweredness of the position. Reducing the number of points the Snitch gives would certainly help, but it doesn't fix that it is still more or less two unrelated games at once, with one part being super uninteresting to watch (two guys just circling around looking for some small ball). But even 50 points would be super hard to overcome if both teams are evenly skilled - if you look at the professional soccer leagues (only sport I have at least some familiarity with since it is super popular in Germany) most games end with one or two goals apart. Needing an advantage of 5 goals to make up for a caught snitch still seems a lot. Well, there is injuries and then there is mortal danger (yes, I am aware that the brain damages in American Football actually has fatal consequences every now and then, but it usually gets down played, so the general awareness of the risk is actually disturbingly low) But you can argue that - as unrealistic as it is - people simply don't seem to die during Quidditch games within the HP universe. Like how an anvil dropped on the head of a cartoon character is never fatal.
@downnice954 жыл бұрын
The only thing j want to bring up is that other sports especially stuff like Formula One is extremely dangerous and fatalities have happened so quidditch being a dangerous sport is not that out of question. However everything else you said is spot on, having a single player catching the snitch being worth 15 goals is so stupid, the fact there is no time limit makes it even more stupid! Another thing in Philosophers stone Hooch tells both teams to play fair but despite Slytherin doing blatant misconduct the ref did not issue any sort of penalty Here is how you can make quidditch make some sort of sense. 90 minute game, throwing the ball in the middle goal post is worth 3 points, if it is thrown in one of the side goal post its worth 1 point, if the snitch is caught it's worth 6 points and the players afterwards are sent back to the center to restart the game
@AnYEntertainment4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a reasonable improvement about the Formula One comparison, though: this is a sport performed by highly trained professionals, not school kids, it is a race and not a contact sport, where crashing into each other is kinda required, and accidents are meant to be prevented and you encouraged by giving some players weapons with the explicit purpose to knock enemies out XD
@steven7035 жыл бұрын
If the seeker is needed to win then quidditch make no sense of a sport. if the seeker over rule everything then quidditch should be about the seekers only for other players and work from there and not make everything so confusing.
@AnYEntertainment5 жыл бұрын
That's what you get when you invent a sport for a novel without understanding of sports ;P
@BlueStarBrony5 жыл бұрын
Yeap totally. It kind of reminds me of Duel Monsters which is deliberately designed so the losing player can turn everything around and win at the last moment. Ironically Quidditch is almost anti team work since just 1 person can turn it around. Also if you could catch the Snitch right away you could win and end a entire game in a few seconds. Before I say the following I love Harry Potter! But...On a similar note Hogwarts is the worst school ever because they are terrible at protecting their students.... They played Quidditch in the rain, in the middle of a Thunder Storm! For Quidditch players that's practically guaranteed to get struck by lighting...One of the players even has their broom on fire and they keep playing... Also from the 1st movie "Oh he's fainted" "Oh just leave him there" ....What!? How could you leave a unconscious student laying on the floor! lol I hope they have lawyers in the Wizarding world because in the real world they would really need them! lol
@AnYEntertainment5 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Bluestar! Yeah, safety standards in the wizard world are in general rather questionable and at Hogwarts in particular. But weirdly enough: this was never as much of an immersion breaker for me as quidditch. The dangers of being a wizards adds to the feeling of adventure. Quidditch is just stupid XD
