But then that's how languages develop!! As long as it makes sense and feels right, it's right 😂😂

I can see Mark being philosophical with his answer. "It feels right but.. what is right?"

Nooo because, if it sounds right then that would actually be right in English 😂

People who grow up speaking English don’t know the technicalities. Like I genuinely don’t know wtf a verb or noun is but I have written countless literature essays and consistently gotten 90%+ So if it feels right, it is right 😭

Really? Where are you from? Isn't it taught in school or something? I'm from Russia and these things are taught to us in our Russian classes from early on, as i remember. We have separate literature classes, too.

@@annaflowers91 I am Canadian, from Vancouver, like Mark. It must have been taught when I was in Kindergarten or Grade 1, which is why I can’t remember. In Canada we do not have separate literature courses. “English” is all encompassing. At a certain point every Canadian student is forced and expected to analyze literature and have exceptional reading comprehension, from Arthur Miller to Margaret Atwood to George Orwell to Albert Camus. You are not allowed to go to university unless you have taken literature. Once in university, you are forced to take further literature courses even if your degree is science or math based (It makes sense to me. How can you be in sciences/maths and not know how to write research papers?? You also need to write a thesis in the last year of uni) This might be why international students from non-English speaking countries have a hard time and have to take lower English courses, and take longer to complete high school. If the international student came after graduating high school in their own country, they might need to take upgrading courses in English. I must add that my province is very strict with English comprehension and Canada consistently ranks high on PISA. It’s not that the education system is lax, but rather teaches things extremely early to the point that we subconsciously know what verbs, nouns, adjectives are. Which is why we can’t define technicalities, our language is second nature. I honestly thought this was the same for every language and every country… on the bright-side math is very easy here.

I agree, English and reading was always my strongest subjects in school. I know the basic of technicalities but if you ask me what a clause is, I can't answer that. The language is second nature for us. "Why does it mean that?" Idk bro, because that's just how it is 😂

Tbh that's what it's like learning another language, I once asked when learning French when do we use 'de' or 'à' after a verb like "il a commencé à faire un son" or "il a commencé de faire un son" and the answer I got was "idk whatever feels right" and nowadays I'd probably give someone this same answer when asked this question in French
@MarkLee-rg4ep Жыл бұрын
I totally understand. And to be honest, even when it’s your mother tongue, you don’t know exactly how to explain why it works or just whether it’s right or not ! with what you said, i think it was an old story and you maybe speak french fluently know ? But it may help some other people ! Im french and to answer to you, i would have probably told you say (in this context) "il a commencé à faire un son" "à" would be used as in "je suis à la maison" - "i'm at home" "de" is used for when we're talking about the place of origin as in "i come from home" , in french "je viens DE la maison" but everyone would have understand you either way. Btw i don't want to sound condescending 😭 i just wanted to answer and maybe help ? even if you were not actually asking for it lmao but just help someone who was wondering

It's true tho. If someone asks me I'd say the same. It feels right. But if they ask me to explain grammar and stuff i don't think i could lol. Maybe it's because most of it is learned through listening for me atleast

The mimicry 😂 but English is 100% winging it and confidence. There is no perfect dialect, pronunciation, or accent. Just try to get the basic parts of whatever you are trying to say and more than likely, you'll be understood. 😂😂😂 practice makes confidence (not perfection). 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
