Trav believed in Prime and helped set all of this into motion when he committed to JSU as the number one overall player in his class. It was unprecedented and without that commitment that put the whole college sphere on notice and shifted the tide, we may not get Deion at Colorado, at least as soon as it happened I’ll say. He put those power five schools on notice as a result of Trav coming to Jackson State. Therefore, Prime is just returning the favor and reciprocating the love and commitment Trav showed him. It’s a great and genuine relationship that we get to observe between them.

This has nothing to do with conflicting award distribution dates but everything to do with slighting coach Prime. Travis could have designated someone to receive the award on his behalf, much like actors do at the academy award ceremony when someone fills in, during their absence. But here is where coach Prime will "always" eclipse and confound his detractors, he is the worthy recipient and owner of a Thorpe award. Which one of his haters can make such an impressive claim.
