​@JanetClifton-p1i kayfabe is that separate reality that a wrestling promotion has for their roster of talent to make their storylines believable. Breaking kayfabe means breaking the 4th wall and behaving as you really are outside of the business. This means if your character is booked as a badass inexplicable force of nature it would be out of character for you to be sensitive and caring for someone. You can only put kayfabe away when you're absolutely sure no outsiders are observing. Undertaker held on to kayfabe and his character longer than anyone else, but this was only possible because he knew where to draw the line. This was why in the old days Heels and Faces were forbidden from being associated with each other because it broke the atmosphere of their rivalry.

The thing I've always loved about this is how you can see his heart still breaking when talking about how sick she was. He hates thinking about the fact he almost lost her. I've seen it a thousand times before, seeing her sick and knowing how that made him feel is what made him realize he loved her.
