Ural 650 may ver well be the most common soviet electric in terms of sheer totals. Once the issue of the neck that`s to narrow is overcome, the guitar handles fairly well, and the monstrous weight that`s ascribed to it is a non-issue, plain and simple. Against the common belief, Ural does not sound good with overdrive, in addition to the overly complicated circutiry eating up some of the pickup out. A brich-laminated, mostly beech cabinet-grade panel body is dipped in a thick coat of polyester lacquer of a wildly psychedelic color.

I bought a Ural 650 guitar because I ride a Ural 750 sidecar motorcycle. The two are of similar build. Crude, rude, and something you'd take to battle. I think the Ural 650 could be used to club an unruly bar crowd with, and still use it to gig the next night. It is heavy, not elegant, not the easiest to play, and should last a long time. I have heard some pretty sounds come out of a Ural 650 in the right hands.

Ural is the symbol of Soviet brutality in making things. Ural bicycle, Ural motorcycle, Ural 6x6 truck, and Ural electro guitar were made for real men. 🤘 Not easy to operate, needs skills to handle, but if you can do it - you're real and your Ural, no matter what it is, will work in all conditions.

OF COURSE THERE WAS ROCK N ROLL IN THE SOVIET UNION. Who are you trying to kid with this video title. Rock n Roll was/is a phenomena in every corner of the world. Rock n Roll is polítical but only in the sense that almost everything is polítical. The USA tried to put an end to Rock n Roll but only made it more popular as they did not undersdand anything about Rock n Roll. Rock n Roll will be around for centuries to come and long after all current polítical ideologies have crumbled and are no more. It will be enjoyed, sang and danced to for a very, very, very long time to come. Nice guitar work by the way.

Ive always wanted to see someone take one of the Urals and just make it better than new, perfect. Same with one of those old school Hondo disasters. I wouldnt expect it to be faithful to the original manufacture, since its originally made quite badly. For mostly weird reasons...Id just like to see one parts-upped and modified to perfection. Call it a "Ship of Theseus" at the end, but I'd call it pretty fuckin rad.

Back in the 80's I had a Hondo Telecaster knock off that was actually really good for what it was. My Dad (who's a long time guitar player) picked it out and it was the best one of the lot, and I wish I still had it, because it was a nice little guitar.

In late 70th the cost of this guitar was above average monthly salory in USSR. So it was like twice the price of Gibson Les Paul, which was half of average monthly salory in US.

Wow! What a unique tone that guitar has! I know you had actual Piano music at the very end, but when you first started playing that Guitar, I thought it sounded a great deal like an Electric Piano! I dunno whether that was all in the Guitar, or whether part of that sound came from whatever Amp you were playing it thru, but I REALLY LIKED that tone alot! Best Regards Always! Ron H. Abilene, TX. Thank for video and nice restoration of legendary guitar. I used to play these kinds of soviet guitars in 90 and later making some work on it. All these electronics with filtering circuits was awful. It had no sense for me and for music style I had playing. But those pickups actually have enough magnet force and good coils. Nice adjustable clearance between string and pickup was also very useful to get smooth sound. I liked to replace pickup board with simple connection scheme and remove all these electronics. Sometimes I used Ural`s coils and magnets to make custom pickups. Also, it was very desirable to fix tremolo to get much possible vibration from strings passed to guitar body, and of course some fretwork. These simple things allow to get some decent sound from this guitar. Clean and with distortion pedal. But at the end of the day, it stays very uncomfortable for playing guitar with strange shape and very heavy weight. If I remember correctly there were some more playable soviet guitars with nicer sound. Maybe Aelita, but this model had even less attractive shape.

Yeah, soviet guitars are not the best. If you want a good eastern block guitar, go czech, go Jolana. They had a ton of models but in my experience anything from the Krnov factory is a reliable and stable instrument and fairly easy to set up well. With the Hořovice factory you can't be so sure. Ofcourse the sound is unique to each model as they all have different pickups and wiring. It depends, but the wood is good. Also I hear Musima from East Germany is pretty good but I've never tried one so i don't know.
