I think what really sells this scene, other than the fact that the song is BETTER than "That Thing You Do", is that all the guys are happy and the whole group is at the top of their game. They're owning the stage, they own the crowd, they're killing it and having the time of their lives.
@RealAlphaDrum Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's interesting to see Jimmy enjoying his time with the band in this scene, because otherwise, he has a bitter and contentious demeanor.

So well said. That's what's great about this movie. It's realistic in more ways than it gets credit for. I grew up in bands. Have a lot of friends in touring bands. All the musicians I know love this movie or were inspired by it A lot of bands with hot songs have better material they don't really get to show. That scene really shows these characters can write and play. They have the skill to last. Totally comfortable on stage. I also love that it shows more of what Lenny can do musically. Unfortunately the record business had other ideas for them.

So many things work about this scene. Lenny presumably wrote the song, and has got his moment to shine up front. Jimmy is actually enjoying an up-tempo number instead of his own preferred ballads, and perhaps not having to carry all of the band creatively. The Bass Player has learned more of his instrument. Guy is having his fun.

Steve Zahn is featured in the Bob Simon HBO series 'treme about New Orleans post Katrina. It is a great series with fantastic music and compelling story line. I was in HS in the 60's in the Pittsburgh area and entered a battle of the bands with me on drums and a friend on guitar doing original material. Coming in the top 10 out of 200 bands we added other players and formed a band called Gospel GS and pretty much lived this movie, except for the having the big hit. We gigged most Friday and Saturday nights at Frat parties [then called Carnegie Tech] and dances. During prom season we'd play from midnight on the Good Ship Lollypop cruising the three rivers til dawn. Porky Chedwick was the Pittsburgh music impresario portrayed in the movie.

while they could play the songs, and were asked to actually play their instruments and sing, what you hear is dubbed by another band entirely. It's pretty remarkable that the pro musicians recorded so tight with the actors on camera and vice versa. Also, credit to the editing to cover up any inconsistencies in performance. As much as we want the Wonder to have existed, they really do not exist as we want to believe them to exist. It took a lot of people behind the four actors to make it happen.

Yeah and the first time I saw the movie, I assumed it was a real band.
