As much as I would love to see the up to date Triumph concert... with no bells and whistles, just the real raw and rare diamonds shining as you are today... not from the past, I am happy to hear Rik saying that he is happy.. truly happy with his life and just doing the real life things like spending time with his family and grandchildren! What a blessing.. what a blessed life. Kudos Rik!!!

Rick's wisdom is spot on! He doesn't want to expend time and energy, only going half-way. If he can't go "the distance," he'll stay home with his family and do what he loves now!! SO SMART!! I'll ALWAYS LOVE "TRIUMPH!" Artists like RICK EMMETT, andd TRIUMPH are not only musicians... they're athletes as well.

Dont forget every three piece band was compared to RUSH. Its just that TRIUMPH was Canadian and that made that all the more predominant for them. As TRIUMPH became a bit more complex with musical arrangments ( Sport of Kings ),they eventually added a 4th musician who was never mentioned as a member of TRIUMPH. Im a huge fan of both but RUSH was always my favourite of the two 👍

It’s no different than the dreamers/fans who long for a Led Zeppelin, Styx, Yes or Genesis reunion. Of course there’s many other bands too, but these spring to mind. It’s not in the cards. Let’s just enjoy the material they recorded for posterity. There’s I’m sure tons of ways to do it as Rik states, but that’s not what suits him. We all have to respect him for his honesty and integrity. Thanks for the great interview John. You set the bar high for these interviews!

Rick Emmett and Triumph were an eternal youth band for me. The exuberance of young freedom and the world that you have at your feet. The senses at their peak . The naivety and wonder and power. His voice and Triumphs wonderful backing vocals, song writing and musical ability. All first rate and extremely gifted. Seeing him here with the correct perspective on returning to that moment with Triumph decades ago. Yeah, Rick... good call. You have the world at your feet now. too. Happy for you, bro....... thanx!

Classiest 40 yr old band interviews I've ever seen. More magic power to Rik and I'm assuming his band-mates for embracing the here and now and realizing that trying to recreate the Triumph that we discovered and loved in the 80's would be a desperate attempt to recreate the sound that they made in their 20's, HONESTLY, and he knows they can't, so to leave that alone and not force a reunion is a great tribute to the greatness of Triumph. Nothing against the bands that do squeeze every drop out for whatever reason, but I do find great respect for Rik and Triumph for continuing to ride gracefully into the sunset. Great work fellas!!

Love Rik and you have a good chemistry with him! I think his answer is about as honest as it gets. If he is happy with his life as it is and Gil is happy and Mike is happy. then it is not worth all the work it would take to try to produce and tour a show that would be satisfactory to them and all their fans. Unlike all the classic bands that still tour, they would be starting over since they don't have all the loyal crew and organization that bands like Iron Maiden, Kiss.Journey, Styx, REO, etc have had going for decades.

Rik, what you described, is how it is, in rock and roll, for everyone. Casinos, halls, but, BUT, I contend, that if triumph, were to announce and market, a limited say, 6 city tour, and include rush, ( maybe), or journey with perry, and whoever you could get, and do a final tribute to arena rock, that you WOULD, sell out arenas, as much as these young jokes do now. And you would get good tickets prices, though not insane like these butter cups do, you guys could poll the public, get a feel. Such a tribute, from the much loved arena kings, would do awesome. Only you guys could do this.

So lucky I was able to see them live in Portland Oregon at their prime. Rik was unbelievable. The videos are out there. Hitting every vocal note, playing the double neck guitar and the 12 string parts with rhythm and lead. Just magic. However, I would take all that fluff today. I get it. Nothing like hearing the originals and Rik still plays at a high level and sings well enough. He is a class act. Sad to realize we can't bring back all those memories. It depends on how hard up for cash they get. Bands used to make their money on album sales and writing royalties. With sales of CDs down about 96% from what it was 20 years ago, touring is about the only way for older bands to make any money.
