This song is about a uniquely complicated sadness that stems from an incapability of feeling "love". It addresses the conflicting feelings of "loving the idea" of a relationship with someone, but knowing you'd be incapable of truly reciprocating an emotion that you can't feel. It's about resisting the urge to tell them how much you appreciate who they are as a person because you don't want to string them along into a relationship that they'd never feel fulfilled in... and hating the fact that you can't change the way you were designed to be able to love them back.

This song makes me cry. I realized recently I'm nebularomantic. This means that due to neurodivergency, I cannot distinguish between platonic and romantic affection. Not easily, anyway. I explained to my partner that feeling romantic love is like looking at a shape that I can't identify. So I have to count and measure the sides and angles in order to find out what it is. I count the ways I feel about her that I don't feel about my friends, like wanting to live with her.

As Demisexual arospec this slaps. So much of this is relatable. I can't tell about the chorus, I feel the message is mixed. I ID with it, but IDK if its in the way intended. This is basically the timeline of my relationship with my QPP. I knew she loved me in a different way than I did her. So for the longest time I told her I didn't want to say I love you, because it feels disingenuous. I didn't hate the thought of loving her, I just didn't in that way. Later I found another partner that I was able to develop attraction to. That really put it into perspective for me. It wasn't that I didn't love my QPP, it was that I loved her in a platonic way. I stopped fearing saying it to her. To much of our culture and programming is caught up on this requirement of sexual and romantic attraction.

werkabgolsdfuhoouishbrrianohbaweroiubhsjkarbh I ABSOLUTELY love this line: "I can't bring myself to hate the thought of loving you" Nothing hits worse in the aro experience, at least in my opinion, than the fact that our words are poisoned with romantic undertones, to the point the very big and expensive definition of love gets shrinked down to the romantic type. So, when faced with the need to express the love we do feel words fall flat. In the end we do love people, and we find multiple times people we love so so so much that loving them is something we REALY REALLY want to do, but a lot of times that person only loves us back in a way we cant, and the idea of being there, being and loving them in the same way is something that even tho we cant do we wish to, because that means we still get to love that person. The reason "the words I love you you dont fell right" is not because there isn't love there, but because they are socially so ingrained with romance that they dont feel truthful to the feeling we feel, so BECAUSE theres a love there, making it so hard to not wish that we could love them back in that way, even if we cent and dont really want to, that idea of being able to love freely is something that is hard to hate. Not sure any of this makes sense, but this is the best aro song I've ever heard, it describes so so well the feeling of loving someone, with all of my hearth, but it not being in the way we are taught it "should" be. Its a hard feeling to process and live with, especially when so many people simply cant deal with not being loved in the same way, and losing those people is such a hard thing, because its not their fault, and its not ours, it simply is.

I find this song interesting because while I am Aromantic and Asexual I don't really click with the feelings in this. I have dated before but the breakups were never really bad. I never felt the need to date, I just agreed when asked (which is kind of a dick move in hindsight but oh well). I'm fine being alone as long as I have friends. Correct. Though aromantics may feel the way they do for a variety of reasons. Whether it's deeply-ingrained emotional safeguarding or natural aversion (or both), love and hurt go hand in hand. The ability to experience either is dampened, and at times, non-existent in this context. But that line in particular focuses on the potential of it being the former (ingrained emotional safeguarding) as opposed to innate aversion, so it may not apply to all aromantics.

For most of my life, I was missing a lot of emotions. I had to put them back somehow. I might have done it wrong, but I don't care. At least I have them. I think I might still be missing some though. I wonder if when I was younger I had them and I lost them because my life sucked. I can remember back to when I was two, but I'm not sure about the details. I'm not sure if I'll ever find anyone though. Being in the top 1% or 2% for IQ is isolating. It feels like pedophilia to be interested in most people. A lot of people my age are also immature, like children even though they are legally adults. It's also hard to get to know people. People are strangely dishonest due to their mental weakness. They hide who they really are so that people have nothing to attack that will have any meaning. They are shallow so that any attack on them will be shallow as well. I wish humans weren't so fragile. People tend to think that being smart is fun because you can lord over everyone, and maybe it is for some people. The problem is, you get bored of being surrounded by idiots clowns eventually.
