I Love to Love was Tina Charles's first hit under her own name...and a UK number 1,in the spring of 1976. The biggest of the other hits she had afterwards were Dance Little Lady and Dr Love. Hearing this song again in recent times, the strength of her vocals stands out to me more than I appreciated at the time these were hits. I can say the same for some of the Three Degrees' songs.

OMG - This brings back memories! I used to go regularly to a South London nightclub in the 70s. I was madly in love with a guitarist of the resident group that played there. Tina Charles, who is from London, used to go to this nightclub. On new year's eve 1976, she was invited to sing this song on stage. She married 'my' guitarist- arghh!

I love how this channel puts the highlight on old classic songs such as this. Tina Charles was a talented vocalist who worked as a session musician for many years so was always "behind the scenes" rather than being in the public eye. She had her debut recording "Good To Be Alive" back in 1969 with an unknown Elton John playing piano for her and she was a backing vocalist (together with her friend Linda Lewis) on the Cockney Rebel's "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" Congrats guys on your amazing videos. You two are like the sunshine coming out on a cloudy day.

Fallin' in love in the summertime is another of my favourite songs from her. I listened to a lot of her songs when I lived in Peru, there were many radio stations (and they still are I believe) that played her songs and songs of the 60', 70', 80', etc. This song I love to love I really loved when I was a kid, her pitch is like a child and I was a child so I imagine myself singing that song and doing Karaoke with my siblings, i did not see what she looked like many years later. Good times 😊

I remember being rather smitten with Tina Charles when I saw her performance on one particular edition of, 'Top of the Pops.' I'm not sure whether it was this song, or her other big hit, 'Dance Little Lady Dance.' This style of music was quite popular in the middle part of the 70's, when Glam Rock was on the wane and Disco hadn't quite got going. There's definitely elements of it here, but it hasn't quite been perfected to the sound that would become known as full-on disco. I remember other songs by her, like, 'Love Bug', and, 'Dr. Love.'

Another great vocalist from around the same time as Tina Charles, & also huge in the UK, was Linda Lewis. Like Tina, she was a real 'Disco-Queen', & had the most incredible voice! Her biggest hit was a cover of 'The shoop shoop song (it's in his kiss)' The wonderfully theatrical 'I'd be surprisingly good for you' She also charted with 'Rock a doodle do'! She performed backing vocals with many of the biggest stars in the music business too, like Bowie, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, & Joan Armatrading. Sadly, she passed away recently, at the age of 72, but those of us who were around in the early 70's will always remember that beautiful big voice, coming out of that tiny little girl from Essex!! 😍
