Many years ago, when I first retired, I drove cars for a large Toronto GM dealer. Part of the job was taking cars coming off lease to the huge auction in Milton, Ontario. I could not believe the number of vehicles. The HUGE lot could hold over 30,000 vehicles at a time. Auctions were held every week (16 bays going full tilt). They even had a "push and pull" auction of undriveable vehicles. This place went 24/7. Hertz and Avis were always bringing transports loaded with cars. You name it, they sold it at the auction. I saw cars and trucks of every make and model, tow trucks, transit buses, semis, overhead lineman trucks, postal trucks, bulldozers, snowmobiles and ATV's, police cars and police boats, dump trucks, trailers of every description, etc. etc. Quite an operation.

Mark, you should check out some of the military auctions.Sealed bids, no auctioneer and everything under the sun that you can possibly imagine. Some nice stuff, some decent stuff and some total crap. A lot of the old Chevy 1 ton's with diesel's and the Blazer K5's with diesel's, various condition Humvee's are showing up from a grand and up. Granted just about 99% of what I've seen needs some to a lot work, but if you are mechanically inclined, you can make your money back and then some.

he sure knows how to stutter in $100. increments though. the mumbles are 20, 40, 60, 80 increments. but if you bid on one of those its bumped to 100.. the worst ones are at the expensive car auctions.. they bump the prices $100K at a time. i would like to bid $101.00 please. over the 100 buck starting bid. they would probably drag me out. laughing my head off. screaming it works on lets make a deal.

Yes, the 1988 Bayliner, with a nice triple axle trailer - all for $600.oo so cheap that if the boat was completely junk and needing to be delivered to scrap or put to the bottom of a lake, the trailer would still be well worth 4 x or more than $600 winning bid. I have seen occasional tremendously low sales like this occasionally out west too, where I've attended auctions. ( Don Dassinger, central Phoenix Arizona )

Oh you dont get any money from them lol working with the government can get expensive lol they had a lower unit drive shift weld itself into the crank so they had to repower the boat! We did the repower but they take all of the engine and stuff back and then it goes through some process before they end up at these auctions. Lol I wasnt paying much attention to the Bayliner :) all i was thinking about was the price it would cost to make that thing run again, and then still only have a bayliner! Seeing so many boats sometimes even "free" isnt worth saying yes to a project :)

From what I know it can end up in a few places. Govdeals.com, publicsurplus.com and Tampa machinery auction. A FWC employee who lists items being sold online told me if outboards don't get approved to be sold they end up being scrapped.

If the guy that buys those 150 to 225 hp HP outboards knows how to fix them repaint, re decal them he can make a good profit! Back in 06 my brand new 150 optimax cost over 10 grand, I’m sure they cost a lot more now! My motor is mint it was broke in correctly and only has 31 hours on it, because I worked 2 jobs all those years ! I start it every 2 weeks and I started using it more, since I quit working 2 jobs! I know those 200 and 225s new got to be at least 20 grand and the 150 close to 15 grand
