I'm from sweden so I know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to the huddig. I have worked with it a couple of times and I can't find words on what its capable of, where you can drive with it and how many thing an operator can do with just the huddig alone. Its just thumbes up all across the bord sort of speak. And the comfort for the driver, OMFG!!

I stumbled upon some videos about Huddigs about 10 to 13 years ago here on KZbin and originally thought they were an ungainly awkward looking machine. I spent a lot of time watching all of the Swedish videos I could find, not really understanding anything, but enjoyed watching just the same. I have yet to get into construction or excavation operating equipment, but have been in forestry for the past 5 and a half years in the PNW operating Finnish made Ponsse cut-to-length harvesters and forwarders, as well as a few Swedish Timberjacks and Komatsus. It really is impressive just how advanced Scandinavian equipment has been for so long and just continues to outpace almost anything else we have here in the States. It blew my mind when Caterpillar introduced their Next Gen excavators a few years ago that allows operators to change spool speeds in the screen, even button layout on the joysticks. Scandinavian CTL equipment has had those capabilities since the 90s, even going as far as capable of changing individual spool sensitivity and speed independently. I couldn't believe that that kind of functionality was not available before in construction/excavating equipment elsewhere. Even funnier how recently that tilt rotators are finally becoming more popular in the States as well, again a Swedish thing that has been around a long time

The European market is so far ahead of the American market when it comes to technology and innovation. Half of my battles in the comments from American operators are why it's dumb to worry about being more efficient. Meanwhile the European market is able to handle a job with 2 guys and one piece of equipment where an American crew would take 8 guys and 3 machines. It's crazy the difference in thought process between the two cultures.

@@DieselandIron Sometimes I wonder if part of that is because of Europe being the "old country", where they don't necessarily have space to utilize more equipment and people on a job, which has forced them to get more out of the few pieces of equipment they prefer to use. Here in the States we have so much space, its never a concern if we could do without a machine or two because there's room for it, so why not?

@@DieselandIron I also appreciate how they tend to pay more attention to control layouts and overall operator comfort. Most CTL forwarders and harvesters use the mini joysticks, similar to what is used in the Huddig Some have additional buttons on the front for your fingers, most don't. Ponsse went out of their way to design a new style of joystick for their harvester lineup that not only places everything the operator needs at his/her fingertips, but the whole joystick shape and design allows the operator to operate the machines with a natural resting hand position. Personally, those are my favorite harvesters I have ever operated. Most comfortable setup anybody has by far.

Great review. In the new Huddig 1370 you'll get the RAM-mount in the cabin, so you can have as many cupholders you want ;-D (and holders for a tablet, smartphones etc as well) Also you'll get an new improved backhoe, more comfortable seat, double USB-outlets, improved air-condition (as you mentioned in the review). Also you can choose an diesel/electric hybrid version of the Huddig.

Cup holder - man totally. Somewhere you cant spill it on the buttons etc... too easily. On my JCB I keep it in an icecream dish down the side, so it tipping and spilling aint an issue. Industrial tyres for sure. But hey cool unit. Not having a tech coming out as much.... we all know what field service can cost!

About switching joysticks off when youre geting out. When the seat is in position for getting out of the cabin. The joysticks are allready locked and you dont need to use the switch.

I have been a Huddig operator for 15+ years. Its just an awesome machine. We now own a 1260E Cable with 2000B crane and one 1260D City. There is no end of the possibilities with these beasts.

Really appreciate the in depth review of this great machine. The thing about the seat belt though, they should not make the belt longer, americans need to stop being fat, it costs us so much in healthcare costs all these people who think its okay to just eat too much and get fat. Also, i think you should maybe just have a smaller bucket on it is it has a long floor, if folks want a 3.5 yrd bucket it should probably have a GP bucket instead.

I 100% agree that American's have a problem that needs to be addressed. The challenge is getting the American public to actually do that. I was given the option of getting a GP bucket but I asked for the long floor so I could really test the "European" setup. I knew most American's would laugh and say "that'll never work" and I wanted to address that intelligently from the get go.

@@DieselandIron After watching a bunch of videos of people in Europe I am definitely of the opinion that any front end loader I would get must have a long floor bucket. I care way more about it’s ability to do cleanup work than that extra little bit of break out force. This applies to me as a landscaper, obviously this is not true if you’re running the machine in some sort of gravel pit.

Since we had such limited time I wasn't really able to get this machine into some different scenarios to test it out. We are hopefully reviewing the newest model sometime next year which means I'll definitely put it into some interesting situations.

The 2 man lifts option came about because the daugther to the head engineer was a gymnast and she had to train line walking but they had no trees in the area where they live so they used the two cranes to tigther a line between so she could practise and wouldn't you know, she won many gold medals too!! Scandinavia: "whatever you'll hallucinate, we'll make it happen mate"

Two points! That bucket is not standard for Huddig so length size and so on with the leveler doesn't fit. And Yes cup holder I have been asking for for years 😂 even the new 1370 don't have then if you don't count the extra mounted ones everybody uses.. great video! Only watched the short once before. I was just starting to get the hang of the tilt rotator by the end of the second week. I would still get my directions screwed up from time to time but I wasn't having to think about it as much. It changes the way you operate. Really awesome attachments.

Would love to try the new Huddig's, the ring control for the steering is awesome, not having to switch between the Tiltrotator and the steering like on the 1160D. And yes, the loader is a bit week compared to a loader. Also as far as I know those buckets must be for the US market? Also have they removed the two pipes you see from the cab? Was great way to know when you are level, when both ends of the two pipes (inside one another) line up, the front bucket (curl) is level. And I agree, would be nice to have a button on the joystick panel to turn off the joysticks. Also great video and great review!

Thanks for the comment Alexander! They still have the pipe level indicator you are talking about but it was out of adjustment for this bucket setup. I typically don't use those anyway for the reasons listed in the video. I appreciate the feedback brother!

The ability to drive while operating the back arm makes this machine one of a kind. It was awesome. Coming up soon is a review of the FAE mulcher head, possibly the new Kobelco SK210 and SK130, and who knows where we go from there!

I did find that with some time I was able to get a little feel for the bucket. It was still pretty difficult not being able to see the angle of the cutting edge though. Thanks for the info on the joysticks! I didn't know that!

If they would make the cab so the cab it self were on a slewing gear and could slew 300 degrees, then it would be perfect. Then it wold not have the side swing on the boom but the boom would be attached to to cab like on a excavator, or it could have side swing also why not, versatility is always good. But you would also have the turnseat so you could turn the seat 180 to operate the front. Imagen Komatsu Forest Harvesters Yellow with a front loader on, but fewer tires and a tad bigger...

I wish Huddig would be a bit more active, pushing this on the NA market. Get it out on more trials where people and companies can try them like you did, get KZbinrs out there to get a week with it like they did for you. So the brand and machine gets more traction in this market. Doesn't seem like they do that though. Heard anything new regarding more time on the Huddig or has that fizzled out?

I agree 100%. I think the Huddig could make some real headway in this market if they would let more contractors get in the seat and experiment for a week or two. I love the folks over at Huddig but they seem to think the machine will sell itself if they show it off through videos and trade show exhibits. They don't realize the American market has already written this machine off because it's expensive and it looks like a backhoe. The only way you'll change minds is by getting contractors in the seat. That being said, I'm working on getting some seat time in the new Hybrid model later this year. I'm hoping we can make that happen because I'd love to further showcase what this machine can do. Yeah, I think it's a very bad strategy from Huddig, as you say why get this for 1,5 -3 times the price (I'm guessing, no idea) compared to a normal backhoe, it looks like a backhoe just with same size wheels (like 4CX) so that is what it's going to be compared to, so why buy what you "already have" for more money? They need to get people to understand what it can do and how it can be used, a sales pitch and sales video is going to only get you to a certain point, after that you need to get the word of mouth going to get people talking about them, that's how you get sales in my opinion. Especially for rough terrain, I think many still see it as a typical backhoe can. I get that they have primarily gone for the railway as that has been their first customers but they need to expand that a bit. And they need to develop good relationships with customers and influensers in the field, that can help showcase the machine. I think what Engcon/Steelwrist has done in USA is the way to go, they really pushed them out there, let people use them on job sites and especially letting KZbinrs try them out and get the word out, people are going to trust someone they follow and they know do good work rather than a sales pitch video from the manufacturers. And it was the same case there, they are really expensive attachments, why get them instead of hiring one more worker or invest in a small used machine when it doesn't bring in more $ per hour (which is the usual argument against them), they emphasised that you can do more in shorted time which brings you in more money as you can do more jobs in the same time period. I really hope they get that one or the normal 1370 (1370T would be really nice though, not much material out there on it other than a few small videos from Huddig) out to you for a bit longer so you can really get a feel for them and do some more real work with them. I saw that Lockwood had ordered a new 1370, he seems to have been rather pleased with the used Huddig rail he bought, he was selling that 1260c(?). I saw in the comments to him saying he was selling it and posting the price that people were gobsmacked by the price and couldn't believe someone would pay that much for a backhoe, which comes back to the point you made.

@@AlexKallthe main factor is the price, even in sweden they aint very profitable, priced at around $450.000 and the hourly rate is often lower than a standard excavator. That being said it’s the worlds best backhoe, a very thought through machine and the quality is great, but it’s a ”niche” machine, often used only for railroad or cable work.

Parts are readily available. Huddig hasn't used many specialty parts only available through them so maintenance is not really a big issue.

You've got the get pronounciation right. Two d:s make for a short sounding vowel in the Swedish language. In other words the complete opposite from how you are pronouncing it today. That being said- keep up the good work promoting a great machine!

Hey man, how big do you recon this is next to a Case 580superN? Seems like the width is the same, hows the height and lenght in person? Does this fit in places a regular backhoe does? Thanks for the videos!

This thing is closer to a 721 loader in size. It is quite a bit bigger than a 580

You can get a gripper cassette on the tiltrotator or switch to a grapple tool on the tiltrotator. Thumbs don't really exist in the Nordic countries, if you didn't have a tiltrotator I'm sure they could install one but it would likely be a bit in the way between the boom and the stick.

That was a home built attachment with an additional axle and winch to get out of really wet conditions. The guys over in Sweden are magicians with these machines and you won't believe what they can take them through.
