I will never give up a pan. Who wants to do keep going back to the bucket for more?

great info and clearly been taping that way for yrs it works for you me personally learned on a hawk and I prefer using the hawk to hold the compound my left hand and trowel with my right while holding 6in knive to feather with . for flats im using 11in curve trowel and finish with 14 curve trowel. butts and buildouts ill use 14 flat masonry type trowel along with 8 in knive. in my opionion if using just a trowel and knive your goin back to the bucket too ofter wasting time hawk holds more mud and bigger surface to work off of if using a trowel for example. jmo

Yeah but this video is just to show people who don't tape much. I wanted to show how to just use some simple tools that require less skill. I don't think a novice could use a hawk and trowel very well. Thanks,

Question. You were using mesh tape, which I use exclusively. You put on an air dry mud. The manufacturers require a hot mud for the first coat. Have you ever had any problems with adhering the fiber tape with an air dry? It sure is a lot easier than mixing hot mud but does it work as well?

The quality of the mesh tape has improved over the years. FibaTape Perfect Finish or extra strength can be embedded in a drying type compound but I would stay away from the lightweights. I prefer the heavy weight (USG Green top). That being said I mostly use mesh tape when I am trying to get a few coats on in one trip so I would be using a setting compound. I did notice that you can purchase small bags of setting compound.

Hello Please do not use mesh tape! I have done many repairs where someone used mesh tape and it cracked. I have never met a pro drywaller that will use mesh.

@@juliealewis45 Thanks for the input! You’ve met one now! After 25 years of doing patches with mesh tape and guaranteeing my work, I’ve never had a callback.

Thanks, Looks like I have been doing it wrong for 40 years. No wonder I have not made any Money. By the way this video is geared toward people who are just taping a small job like I did in the video. All the best.
