How did this game get away with parodying so many iconic characters for money? I thought parodying/referencing to such a large amount and game costs money is bad, but this got a pass. I'm genuinely curious here, how does this sort of thing work?

The developer specificaly mentioned that topic when the game was still in development, because usage of copyrighted content is the main reason why "I wanna" fangames can't be monetized, and that he had to "work around the copyright". My guess that as long as people don't use the direct images of copyrighted characters, it is fine. It's like "It's not Mario, it's a cat plumber OC!" I wonder how Pawkat got through though, it's too similar
