We just starting using book one. Girlllll, my son wrote five paragraphs for his fable in one sitting and without complaining. Game changer!!! Thank you so much for introducing this curriculum. THANK YOU!!

Jousting into the Middle Ages ~ girl, you were paying attention! 😉 I'm so grateful for your review of this series, way back, and I'm glad you told me to waaaait a little longer (I was dying to do it in 2nd grade). We finally got around to it in 4th grade (bought it before that, but life...), and it's been perfect! Delighted to see you back! You're one of my favorites!!!

Classical Academic Press does sales twice a year and that's when I buy these books. It's a great deal.

I have 5 kids thinking of starting this with my 6th and 7th graders, but i have a 1st and 2nd grader, plus an 8th grader doing Lightning Literature 😅. Is Writing & Rhetoric very teacher intensive? Is it too late to start with my two who would use it?

Oh, Peachy, I could make several videos off this one comment. lol W&R is not teacher intensive, but you (or another responsible child) do need to be there for "Tell it Back" and dictation. But it's not intensive. Get in, Get out. Watch this writing playlist to see how I see started my 6th/7th grader on book 1 and how we did it. I think I'm wearing a polka dot blouse. kzbin.info/aero/PLm6ymG_jSP25lxlq3PJj6a3sXFx6_WrGH&si=33lnMHNAEOqrWZ0a

Which grammar program do you recommend to pair this one with?

I used a couple of different ones: Well-Ordered Language and MCT's Grammar Island. I think I have a review on one of them in my curriculum review playlist.

How much of the books are religiously inclined? Is the whole book religious or just some stories or excerpts used in the book are from christian doctrines? I have ordered the first 3 books in the series and going to be using it for my 3rd grader... we are secular homeschoolers... But after seeing your detailed reviews on it, I really liked how it was setup and wated to try it for us. But one of the homeschooling mama also said that even though they liked the writing programme, they had to drop it as it was increasingly getting more religious. As you have used many levels of this curriculum, wanted to know what your point of view was.

Just an excerpt or a quick story. In the video I show you several instances of this.

I see. Makes sense. I have a flip through video dropping this Thursday on Book 5 but for my next live I will address this. Just remind me in the live and I’ll grab ALL the books in the series and I can flip through. What is “a little” religious to some might be “too much” for others so we’ll pop the hood and take a look. That should help you make an informed decision. HTH!

Granted, I'm only half way through book one, and we are Christian homeschoolers, but I have been impressed with how genuinely neutral and respectful their approach has been when Biblical references do come up. Every time, I think, it's so nice that they word it that way so students can have exposure, because it's a good example of whatever thing they're talking about, but parents won't feel like it's indoctrination. This does occur fairly frequently, in all honesty, but handled as literary references, amidst Aesop, current events, etc. It is gonna be too much if you want zero Biblical references, but I have not seen anything where they are forcing Biblical ideas on anyone. For reference, book one is about Fables, so we are seeking morals for wisdom. There are other forms of literature out there with the same goal as Aesop's fables, thus the Biblical references. We are conservative Christians who didn't buy this because it was Christian, we bought it because it is good, :) but just for reference. I do hope that is helpful! I can count up occurrences in book one later, if it would help.
