8D8 was one of my favorites back in the day. Not only did he look really unique, he was in Jabba's Palace but also, if you flipped his legs up 180 degrees and layed him down, he looked like a weird droid-creature, or maybe even a strange speeder. The imagination we had as kids...

8D8 was one of the few SW toys that were able to make the jump to Transformers in my playtime. I would fold his legs in and raise his arms to give him a sort of alt mode (about as convincing as the average Pretender inner robot), he was a right bastard trying to screw over both the autobots and decepticons. I wish I had done more cross franchise mixing of my toys, but I was a pretty strict toy segregationist back then, to my regret now.

Never saw the Power Droid in shops that I visited - and no kid at school I knew owned one. As a child, he was probably the most mysterious figure in the SW Kenner lines. I liked him from the start. Never owned him back in the day, but did get two at a flea market in the early 1990s. I was impressed. I didn’t know his legs would click when moved - just like R2 and R4’s domes did. Same sound effect too, I think, which is cool. The last time Kenner did anything interesting with a droid figure, was EV-9D9’s opening mouth.

C3PO (removable limbs): I really loved this fig because it also doubles for the Tusken scene in Ep 4! R5-D4: One of the VERY BEST EVER! And he was the unsung hero of Ep4! I believe he blew his motivator on purpose because R2 told him of his mission and R5 knew the fate of the galaxy needed Artoo to be sold with C3PO. DEATH STAR DROID: Are you kidding, Junkman? The only "evil" droid until the bounty hunters. Super cool fig and very useful when playing with the Jawa Sandcrawler vehicle and Death Star Space Station playset. FX-7: Looks cool and very useful in play since he repairs things. But, the arms would break off if you used them too much. But really, none were awful or stupid. Some were cooler than others but in a galaxy filled with droids we needed a wide variety. So even the worst of these 'will do' imo.

21B is awesome because his clear mid section is unlike any other figure in the line....looks very cool when he is back lit....most droids don't come with anything but he does and his removable mouthpiece is unique too as it comes out on one end but you have to make a real effort to remove the other end and lose it. His feel just could have been bigger.
@cyrusq5999Күн бұрын
The droids did have plenty of play value: R2 (and R4) had the clicking dome, in addition to the sensor scope and lightsaber for the later editions. Threepio had removable limbs and a vinyl net. The Power Droid had the clicking legs. EV-9D9 had the moving mouth. FX-7 had the most play value of all the droids - apart from the Droid Factory set, where you could build droids in different combinations from the parts offered in the set. The Death Star Droid had nothing - except the chrome paint.

I understand the problem with finding a Death Star Droid with the black on the shoulders. They are a pain to find with the black. However, the FX-7 is the worst of the droids to me. That middle arm on FX-7 breaks off too easily. If you're trying to find one now, good luck. That arm is almost always broken.
@cyrusq5999Күн бұрын
The tiny rubber claw arm? Never had any problems with that - except the paint chipping. The biggest problem with the figure, is the telescoping neck. Try finding one that’s still nice and tight. Plenty of loose ones out there, if you don’t care.

Favourites: R2 Sensorscope, 3PO Removable Limbs, Power Droid, Death Star Droid, R5D4 Meh: Zuckuss, IG88, Medical Droid, Torture Droid, Multi-Arm Driod, R2 Lightsaber If you are playing with a Jawas and Sandcrawler (mine was the cardboard Land of Jawas version) then you need R5D4, Power Droid, R2, C3PO, even Death Star Droid. R5D4 comes in handy with a Y-Wing fighter too. Paint one black and stick him on the Death Star with the Death Star Droid. I wasn't keen on the bounty hunter droids. IG88 was too lanky and Zuckuss felt like an evil 3PO with a head swap. After the prequels, IG88 reminds of the uncovered 3PO. Since we are talking bounty hunters, Dengar always looked like he got his dengar kicked by the others. My medical droid mouthpiece kept popping out and the multi-arm droid arms would never stay in place and I never remember that it's called FX7 or that the other one is 21B. What about Darth Vader? He's more machine than man. Does that qualfity him for droid status? Obi-wan may say yes. What about Lobot? His name always made me think he was some sort of android, and he turned on/off.

You could make the power driod walk a little bit if you balanced the legs just right. I probably spent way to much time as a kid trying to balance that thing.😂 My father saw my 3p0s arm off and thought he was doing me a favor gluing it back on. I never told him he messed up my figure because i shouldn't have had my toys out like that in the first place.
@spaceknight7932 күн бұрын
Where I went wrong as a kid was not even considering buying multiples of droids. I saw them as characters, not army builders. But really, they were mass produced product, so multiples makes sense. Especially Power Droids, Death Star Droids (evil droids!), and FX-7... seriously, shouldn't Han have kept an FX-7 handy for all those repairs on the Millennium Falcon? On the flip side, it's hard to imagine that in the 2010s I would get sick of all the astromech droids being produced. I just gave up on buying them all... Kenner line: too few. TVC line: too many.
@michaelwills192617 сағат бұрын
Same man I love the droids, you always see droid units populating all levels of worlds across the star wars galaxy. They’re like mobile tool boxes. I myself love the Astromechs like R2 because I love variants and they come in so many colors. The build a droid series was awesome for that reason, for me
@JinzoCrash2 күн бұрын
Clear parts on 21B are fun when you're a kid. R2 with sensorscope wins over the dumb lightsaber one, and is a definite upgrade to original R2. Pop-apart 3PO SHOULD win over original, just for having tighter joints, but they were often not very deeply gold colored. Death Star Droid wasn't even Death Star Droid... wrong color. The figure is actually a guy from elsewhere in the movie.
@keithprofitt37172 күн бұрын
It would depend on your imagination as a kid. I always had the Imperials looking for C-3PO instead of R2 and when they thought they got him and took him back to one of their bases they actually had the fake one (Removable Limbs) and he blew up killing some of the Imperials. Small victory for the Rebels. Some of my adventures were better than the movies itself. The adventures and the memories I had as a kid with my Star Wars toys will stay with me forever.

I think those of us who grew up with the original trilogy would have enjoyed the prequels a lot more if they had treated the droids more seriously. In particular the battle droids with those terrible voices. I still have a tough time accepting that there was absolutely no proper acknowledgement of R2D2 and C3PO. Why not just use other droids and make the whole thing so contrived just to basically wedge two beloved characters into the mix. As if we were expected to believe that the dark lord of the Sith, the Chosen One, Lord bloody Vader himself created the most camp protocol droid to ever grace the galaxy. " Ooh Hello"

I liked his transparent torso, and the microphone thing that fit into his mouth. Other than that I agree with most of the rest. Happy New Year 🎉🎊🙂👍👍👍

The R2s and R5-D4 both could fit in the Y-wing, which was a great feature. From a play feature stand point that’s worth considering. The humanoid droids could all fit in vehicles that had room for pilots. It was the odd ball droids like FX and the power droid that didn’t really have the best play value, but they were pretty fun regardless. Junkman did forget the best droid, the Probot that came with the Hoth Turret playset. Hands down the coolest droid figure of the line.

What you called Zukkas is a robot.. Hence, the correct name 4-LOM. If Kenner mistakenly named the JAWA a SAND PEOPLE would you call the JAWA a SAND PEOPLE in 2025?

They didn’t make a mistake. West End changed it. I have covered it twice in videos. One didn’t ever get a name for almost a year later

@@ThatJunkmanto be fair that whole “4LOM/Zuckass” thing confused the hell out me as a kid. They made it sound like one character that could change its identity depending on the assignment. Now why couldn’t they just be clear about all this. Love ya Junk

You pronounce 3P0 just fine, but you seem to have trouble pronouncing 4-L0M.

My dad used to call him “P 3 C O” or something out of sorts to get my goat 😅

IG-88 BEST PICK FOR ME , ALL THE rest I would keep them where you have them , as for the order of rank I would also keep them minus of course IG-88 , as for the stupidest droid kenner made back then it's a true toss up between gonk droid & 8D8
@benrositas80682 күн бұрын
I almost gave you a thumbs up for saying Power Droid was the stupidest. But then I saw you say 8D8 was stupidest, too. So you made a comment that I can't rate because it's half right. I hate it when that happens!!!

FX 7 was the dumbest one for me. Even Imagination powered toys need to do *something

R5D5 would go in best for me.

I guess I've always liked IG-88 because it is more than a droid, he's a bounty hunter. And with two guns! I have a couple of variants of him and up to day he is one of my favorite figures.

R5-D4 was my very first Star Wars figure so I always liked it. My favorite droid has to be Power Droid. Please don't rank the ewoks. :)

Man I remember going to Kmart with my 2 dollars to get 3P0 and lost my money somewhere in the store. I was all tore up but apparently to my mom life lesson #7 is “never lose your money” so I walked out with no 3P0 ☹️

If I haven't mentioned it before, read the Tales From Jabba's Palace anthology paperback from Bantam Spectra. Fantastic book!
