I have used the 2 paddle mixer for 16 + years without any mishaps, yet, but I just hold the bucket between my feet when I'm stirring a big bucket of mud. I used a $50 Black & Decker drill for many years until the cord could not be repaired anymore and then I got a better Milwaukee drill I have now. Great video. Have a good one, and hope your health issue are improving.

Each mixer has it's own pro's and cons and applications. A quick tip to clean them though, (another finisher showed me once) is to put the paddle in a bucket of water and tap it a few times with a hammer and the mud usually comes right off due to the vibration. Great video as always ✌

I have a couple of different mixing paddles. I would get the 4 bladed one but then I have to store it. The 2 bladed works OK and it lays flat when storing. Also, there is less to clean at the end of the day. Thanks for sharing.

I really love free info, but I have one issue that I have not seen discussed before. It may be just an issue with me, and I understand that. How do we know when to stop? I almost always try to do drywall, and think "I can get that just a little better", and I end up screwing it up and calling my friend, who tells me I have helped to buy his boat. You make it look so easy, and that is how I can tell a professional. What sets you apart, to me anyway, is that you are willing to share your experience and knowledge. I want to say thank you for that. PS, if you ever need to know anything about hyper speed acoustics, drop me a line. Smiles! PPS, never use water putty as a substitute for drywall compound. It does not work...

Water putty lol. And Hyper Speed Acoustics, is that like really fast Popcorn Ceiling texture, or sound that is faster than the speed of sound? PS: I have it on my list to do a video about how novices often overwork a repair, lol

I think the hardest thing for me was learning to leave the mud alone once I had made 2-3 passes with the knife. The thing that helped me the most was spending a couple of lunch hours watching pros tape and finish joints.

Thank you again for a great video. I heard that the sheet rock and level 5 mixers can chew up the sides of the buckets and then you’ll have plastic in your mud. Is that true and if so how to avoid chewing up The sides and bottom of your bucket?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Like I showed in the video, the two bladed mixer with sharp corners will chew up buckets but I’ve never had a problem with these four bladed ones. Of course you don’t want to go beating on the sides of the bucket too much if you are mixing. maybe I’ll do a video testing which ones chew up things the most.

I had that issue with the four bladed sheetrock paddle. But to be honest it's not the paddle by itself, but mostly because of the rough handling of it. I drop it on concrete floors and even hit it with a hammer sometimes to remove set hot mud on it. So it's mostly the handling that gives it rough or damaged edges, the paddle itself is great, although a bit hard to clean quick...

For you noobs out there (me included), "Hot Mud" is mud u mix up yourself from powder, as oppose to "Cold Mud", which is the mud you buy in a big tub.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hot mud is Fast setting joint compound, and we call it that because it gets warm when mixed due to an exothermic reaction. It hardens according to the time on the bag, is tough to sand, shrinks almost none and can be recoated as soon as it's set up. There IS mud you mix from powder that doesn't do that.

I haven't seen your biggest paddle but 30 years xp and I dislike your 2 blade one with the half ball on the bottom. There is a steel one with the same design without the extended part protruding of the bottom. When you texture or use a pump for finishing, it is important to get every part of the bucket mixed. For finishing by knife, it doesn't matter as much.
