7th track from "Cutting Edge" (1982). The ballad “Changed Hearts” proves refreshing with its low-key ambience. Now, normally I am turned off when three ballads appear on a ten song album but when they are well-crafted and constructed - and such is the case here - I cannot help but stand in support. Of particular note, Thomas proves quite deft with how he decorates things with his well-placed bluesy lead work. The message here revolves around making a change for the better:
Changed hearts make changed lives
And I see one in you when I look into your eyes
Changed hearts make changed lives
And I see one in you, see one in you
Changed hearts make changed lives
And I see one in you
The song can make you cry
And take your heart away
And feeling lost sometimes
Can be enough to turn you around

Saw them in concert at about this time. Amazing - took time to talk to everyone afterwards. Great music. And wow - Christian Rock, despite what people may say about it, and its limitations, was really touching people where they were at with some thought provoking, heart provoking lyrics. It wasn't just superficial music - it had some real depth. I remember how much this made me think when I was a teen. And when I listen to it now, it still stands up. Thanks for the posting.

Love this song and this album is fantastic!! I do feel like there's one line that's not biblical, though. "Changed hearts make changed lives and I see one in you when I look into your eyes." If a heart is truly changed by God, it would bear fruit over time, not discernable by looking at someone's eyes.

Good point. I think SCB was trying at the time to write some Christian songs that leaned in a slightly romantic direction, songs like "Valerie" and "Isabel," as well as this one because, although it can apply to either a man or a woman, I can't help thinking it was written with a woman's tears in mind. Also on this album is the anguished "What Did It Mean," which is a lament for a broken marriage.

@@thatMimosaGrove I remember as a relatively new believer listening to "What Did It Mean?" and thinking how very sad that a marriage between Christians would end in divorce. I had no idea how common that would become.

Kevin actually helped shape me into a stronger person. He was quite the character as was his dad.
