Literally was my gateway game into the world of fantasy and anime shit. Before Tales of Symphonia, I played Pokemon, Mario, and racing games. Oh, how naive I was until this gem brought me into this wonderful world of deeper RPGs and shit like FMA. I would have never gotten into Final Fantasy either if it wasn't for Symphonia. I saw Legendia coming out on PS2, and not being a hardcore gamer I only had Nintendo systems cuz thats just what my mom would get us at Christmas... My first playstation was acquired and I jumped down an endless pit of JRPGs.

I have to say, seeing this video is a breathe of fresh air. This was the second game I got for the gamecube. I remember the astonishment I felt when I beaten the game as it was suuuuuuper long. I use to games I could binge in a day, beat it, play it again at a slower pace, then toss to the side. I played it twice and didn't know about a lot of things hidden in. When I told my other gamer buds about it. I just got looks like I fabricated the whole thing from some fever dream. It still feels like that but since other titles from the Tales have appeared. The looks have died down. Up to this day, I still hold this game at high status. I loved the combat system and how control much control I had over it. I find the skits charming and generally get a chuckle out of them. It fit my style of always searching and coming finding a new side quest or something else. Even during my third playthrough when Colette triggered her mystic arte, I was stunned as I thought the game couldn't throw anymore surprises me. Still, loved the video and the opening skit was spectacular

Tactics Ogre the Knight of Lodis. There are technically 6 endings, but there are multiple sub-endings based on whether or not you killed a certain boss, or one character survived and another didn't, if they both survived, or if they both died. There can be upwards to 40+ endings.

BB is easier than Dark Souls I dont think that's "merciless" In fact even with the DLC its shorter to, its not that hard to comlete outside of max level and he never did that for DS1 or 2 so it wouldn't be very hard. Only the chalice dungeons are annoying and they dont even scale on NG+

From a completionist standpoint, Bloodborne is wayyy less taxing than Dark Souls. The emphasis is more on the action elements than the RPG elements. The only thing that would be taxing would be reaching max level (he did actually go out of his way to reach max level in DS1, which I sorta lol'd at). In those games you aren't ever really meant to completely max out your character. They're less about grinding/stockpiling xp and more about constructing clever builds with the limited xp you organically acquire throughout the course of the game.

There was still a good chunk of optional endgame content I left unfinished when I decided to beat the final Boss. Plan getting to that someday soon. Vesperia, with some grinding and farming, all the optional stuff(minus completing the colosseum with every character and most mini-games) right around 100hrs. Complete Onimusha Blade warriors. It was one of the best fighting games, in my opinion. With so much to actually collect throughout the game. It extends beyond a two dimensional camera style, which we see in something like smash? it actually allows you to maneuver around the world in multiple ways, while breaking down walls and or secret entrances whilst unlocking secret equip-able gear, music, and characters. Plus, you get to play as megaman, thanks to capcoms rights. Do it for the beard.

I'm going to need support on this. I am only one of 600K subs, after all. Jirard, I want you to complete Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. Not only is it the most traditionally RPG-style Pokemon game, it is also one of the easiest Pokemon games to complete, since you don't have to complete a Pokedex. Please, this relatively hidden gem needs more attention!

I love reading these comments and seeing people saying they like abyss more than symphonia. Ive been saying that for years and thought i was alone! Both amazing games, but being able to free run, fof, and in my opinion just the story is amazing. On a side note, everyone here know that i love you all for playing tales games. The more popular they are, the more we get in the west. The fact that some of the others arent localized breaks my heart.

You didn't do/mention Collette's dog-talking or the dark/demonkc realm, which makes you play through AGAIN but with harder enemies and if you die in this world, game over. This realm is only available after playing through the first time I think, by collecting these obscure and super difficult to obtain 'demonic weapons'. The final twist? When you enter the demonic realm, you loose all of everyone's weapons except the demonic ones you found in order to get access. You're welcome! (now maybe you'll understand the 500-600hour mark some of us have after total completion). And I believe other group characters have "collectible quests", there's rebuilding entire cities a visit at a time, talking with pilgrims in the public baths, exploring and talking with the kitty creatures... I don't know how anyone can call anything but this game and Kingdom Hearts a game #worthit

Ever since the Pandemic I decided, what better time to sit down and beat some old JRPGs I never finished as kid. Once I finished what games from my childhood I could get my hands on, I began to look for titles I had never heard of or had never had the chance to play ever. Symphonia being one of those games. Though I’d heard of the Tales series before. I never played them because I mainly played other genres of games but mainly it was because I was a stupid Final Fantasy elitist and judged the Tales games by their coverart and character designs. For that reason I thought that games with the more Anime style character designs weren’t going to have stories as dark as some of the Final Fantasy titles I knew of. And boy was I fucking wrong! For the most part my opinion now after beating Symphonia, Vesperia, Graces F, Zestiria, Berseria and getting the Platinum Trophy in Arise while also knowing the plots of others titles; the Tales games are some of the darkest story lines I’ve played in most JRPGs(Parasite Eve being one of the darkest). Especially Symphonia. The juxtaposition between the art design and the story being presented through that art design is pretty fucking jarring but so unexpected in a great way. On top of that the Tales games are hella fun that combat does take some getting used to but once it final clicks it’s some of the most fun I’ve had playing a JRPG of its size. I beat Symphonia and immediately switched to the next game I could get my hands on and so on and so forth. I’m definitely a Tales fan now and am working my way through Abyss. I’m pretty pissed at myself for shunning these games for so long based solely on their art design, because I know I would have enjoyed them even back then.

Gerard, if you want a japanese with norse mythology, play tales of Phantasia. aside from Ygdrassil, it also has Valkyries, Gungnir and for some reason a parallel to the lost city of Atlantis. Also it's a gba portable....so it should be easier on the schedule.

Symphonia's still my favorite game of all time even after 15+ years. It was also the game that got me into jrpgs and most likely i would've stopped playing games altogether if i never played this game cause before Symphonia i preferred reading books far more than playing games (at the time I mainly played shooters, Smash Bros, some action games) but my opinion of Symphonia when i first played it was that it almost felt like i was playing a book since before Symphonia i didn't really play jrpgs besides maybe Pokemon (which i wasn't really impressed by) but Symphonia and Tales games in general turned that around and i probably play games a little bit more now than i read and Tales has been my favorite series ever since with only maybe Trails and Ys from Falcom coming close to how much i like Tales. As for Symphonia itself i feel that it is still the most solid game in the series where while it may not do any specific thing better than all the other games it does now have any actual weaknesses like all the other games (like Vesperia has great combat but the story takes a hit, especially in act 3. Berseria has an awesome story but aspects of the Skill system and combat are lackluster (i personally hate arte trees...unfortunately it seems like they'll continue with it), Zestiria has a bad story and combat but awesome music and side quests, and so on with other games. In comparison Symphonia doesn't really do anything too great (though i think it still has the best story of the localized games...unlocalized Rebirth might be able to match it) but considering the year it came out it and how dated some aspects of it is it didn't do anything that could be called bad in the other asepcts of the game and was pretty much solid in all the other aspects of the game). Out of all games Symphonia's probably my #1 recommendation, granted i will have to say it's dated to a degree (granted i can still play the game and get into it just as easily as i can get into recent games with more refined combat). As for the GC version of the game i probably beat it about 10 to 15 times (making it my most played game of all time...and most other Tales games outside the last 3 or 4 i've replayed at least 5 to 9 times) and on PS3 i was in the middle of my fist run (never beat the PS3 version cause my focus in recent years has been on new games or on games in my backlog i've yet to finish). Also along with Tales being my favorite game series the combat series is also my favorite in all of gaming with either Hearts R or Xillia 2 being my favorite of the Tales series.
