Along with Alex Lifeson and Andy Summers, Steve Rothery has been such a guitar inspiration to me since I was a kid, and especially since I first bought Misplaced Childhood in 1986. His clean, chorused arpeggios made me want to master that style of playing. And I think I nearly have done! Thanks to Steve for decades of brilliance!

The first concert I saw was Marillion at Liverpool's royal court at the tender age of 14, I'll never forget it, this was the time when they rolled out some of the Misplaced Childhood songs before they were released. I'm a lifelong fan, thank you Steve, for your moving and soulful guitar style...

Seasons End is such an important album for me. The songs are wonderful but are elevated by the tone and feel and musicality of this man’s playing. Hooks in You has a hall of fame riff and there ate magical solos and flourishes across the whole album, for example I still get chills from some of the parts Steve plays on The Space. Thank you for such a precious gift, Steve.

Thank you for doing this. Steve Rothery has been one of my biggest influences since I discovered Marillion during the Marbles album, and then subsequently listened to their back catalog. Describing their longer songs as chapters put together is an eloquent way of putting it, I always felt a song like Ocean Cloud was a collection of movements. And songs like The Great Escape have brought me to tears many times. Truly a remarkable band and amazing guitarist, and I respect them for their approach to music.

@@ObjectiveDynamicsI think they are referring to the 'original' manufacturer production standards of a brand. Upgrading a guitar rarely improves the resale price as (in the LP case) it is not longer original. Everything is subjective though.

People say Steve R is the most underrated guitarist, kind of agree with that statement, but whether its his solo work or with Marillion, there is a hardcore, big fan base that have been in love with Steve's guitar solos, tone, unique and so recognisable style of playing. Great interview. I watched Steve play with Fish-era Marillion, way back in ‘83 and ‘84, they were a great live band. Seeing this, 4 decades on makes me fully realise what a guitar inspiration he was to me in my early days: the clean arpeggios and those soaring leads! Lovely player.

Have loved Steve's playing and sounds for almost 40 years since my mate played me Fugazi... He and Marillion have had a huge influence on me. Can vouch for the emotional impact, I was one of those with tears streaming down my face when I saw them in Glasgow in 2022, the week after my Mum passed away. Also, my son and I were fortunate enough to get to the Glasgow SRB weekend, which was a wonderful live experience... Thank you, Steve. And thank you, guys, for bringing this video to us!

My first dive into the MIJ Squiers was when I had to replace my 95 MIM that was stolen. I found an 87 E-series 57 Style but with the Floyd rose type system for the bridge and nut. I decided to work it into a true 57 style with the six point bridge, new electronics, etc., so I dove in and did a lot of work to get it right. When it was finally set up, my mind was blown! The easiest guitar I ever played, hands down. The neck, however, was significantly played and therefore worn and definitely in need of fret replacement soon. While talking to luthiers about it, I was also looking for replacement necks. Very soon, I found an 86 E series neck that was complete 57 spec and barely played! I now have an 86/87 hybrid that, like Steve’s, is heavily modified but, like he says, it’s the wood. These guitars are every bit as good as any top line strat style guitars I’ve ever played. They sing even without amplification. It’s been a very worthwhile project and partner. Get one if you can. Love this show!

I really hoped for some words on Andy Latimer. And I wasn't disappointed :) His playing has some of the most fluid phrasing among guitar players. I strongly recommend everyone pick up albums like Nude, Stationary Traveller, Moonmadness, or Dust & Dreams-amazing work.

I was lucky enough to tour support with Marillion and do a Marillion Weekend at PZ as a member of DeeExpus. I was ‘aware’ of Marillion and had Seasons End but not really a ‘fan’. Watching them and particularly Steve from the wings was just an incredible experience. Neverland was the track that just absolutely floored me. The guitar part was just so beautiful and incredibly powerful. Been a BIG fan ever since. I also remember taking many pictures of Steve’s racks and amps 😍

Oh God, what a joy ! Clutching At Straws was my first ever CD, back in the late 80s, it remains one of my absolute favorites, and the Sugar Mice intro (well, pretty much everything from the Fish era) is one of the main reasons I became a guitar player (and did it for a living)... A fan and guitarplayer for 30 years over here. Thanks for giving this gem of a present on Friday. Fell in the Misplaced Childhood album at the age of 12 when being in difficult times in my own childhood, that band got me through a lot of tough situations. Their storytelling let me escape and I could drift away on the notes flavoured by that reverb, chorus etc. These are “just” pedals and sounds, but for me much more; the sound of stories, fantasy and freedom. Now Steve tells he sought after the sound in his head; LP and Marshall. He put his own sound in my head, I now and then trying to create on my own set up at home and in band settings So thankfull for that. Keep going this great show guys.

Clutching At Straws was permanently on my crappy LP Record Player, then I got a Boombox, and bought the Album on Cassette... and circa 2016... in my late 40's, now living in Australia...lost everything from the UK... I was stuffing around in a music shop... accidentally saw Script, Misplaced and Clutching on CD.... Insta-buy... they're in my car all the time. ❤❤❤ P.S. There is no greater... Steve is the King of Melody. Latter day Mozart.

I specifically go for cheap guitars and amps, and get a glorious sound, that on about 7 earlier nearly deafened me (gotta remember earplugs when turning up with this beastie, just found a short to ground and got her working last night). If I bring 2 cabs to the gig I'm pushing 300 watts, nobody needs that much noise, lol. You guys have hella good ears, so you might detect something in my tone that you found distasteful I suppose, but after 50 years of playing if there's anything there, I'm not hearing it. 300 million albums with a less than 200 quid guitar speaks volumes, and thanks for inviting Steve, great show as always.
