That and the fact that I love to watch you guys playing! I think everybody would love to see you guys jamming together. I bought it and I was so disappointed. I love almost everything of theirs I have ever had. It seemed too limited and like it only sounded like a classic great vibe tone on a small window of the dials. Might turn out I just can't play vibe to save my soul, but love hearing others play them. Heres hoping the deja-vibe custom shop Fulltone just did is the ticket to vibe land. That Mojo-vibe tho!!!!!
@RedAndtheBlackRocker7 жыл бұрын
The Depths - that's the one I have, I never see it on anyone's board. I like it, but it still doesn't sound as good as the Deja Vibe to me. I'm a huge Trower fan, and that's the one he uses apparently.
@robertbossart7 жыл бұрын
The Depths has more knobs to tweek the sound, but it's not a vibe in the classic manner. If you are looking for the Hendrix/Trower-vibesound you have to get one of the classics like the Deja.

I do think the MXR gets a bad rep. And of course, If you sit it next to a bunch of real (photo cell) vibes, it doesn't sound as rich or as warm and it kind of lacks the bottom end of other vibe pedals. (From what I understand it's a tweaked phaser circuit rather than a 'real' vibe.) Where it shines is in a modern live mix where you don't want as much low end and need a bit of midrange accentuation to cut through when you turn it on. It's amazing for doubling lines with another guitar player or a horn player as well, because it keeps you in the same 'tonal range' as the guitar regularly is while adding some intrigue. Might not be as cool or rich as classic vibes but it definitely has it's place for utility.
@davidjameschamberlain5 жыл бұрын
It's amazing in a mix, I think of the MXR Univibe as a more tweakable Phase 45, I use it in place of my Phase 95 nowadays
@fretts7 жыл бұрын
One difference between 'Vibes is that some of them are true to the original in that the pulsation is lopsided like a heartbeat, others have "fixed" that and produce a very even up and down sweep. Hendrix and Trower aficionados will want the classic heartbeat like the Fulltone and the Voodoo Labs MicroVibe. The Mojo has it too but maybe to a lesser degree. The Nu-Vibe obviously lets you get any waveform you like, including that heartbeat. Dunlop, despite owning the rights to use the Uni-Vibe name have not bothered to recreate the sound of its namesake. You don't much notice the difference at moderate to fast speed, but it really shows up at slow settings.

@JaimeNoro4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have one too. But it has its problems, the most annoying one is that it clips whenever you use something a little hotter than normal single coils. In this day and age, that's a bummer. And I feel it's a little on the thin side as well (shaves off some of the low mids), but that works well when you use distortion and fuzz to keep things from falling apart.

I know I would appreciate it greatly and hopefully some others but could there be an episode where you guys shootout the real analog modulation effects compared to the mobius or show how to get as close as possible to the originals? I know for people who want to condense their boards to a mobius, there aren't many good tutorials/all in one comparisons and I just thought you guys could be the ones to do it. Love the videos, keep doing what you're doing :)
@ThatPedalShow7 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Hayes We could certainly try. Answered this earlier to a point, but it's kinda the same as with real tape echoes and emulations. There's quite a gap between the sounds. Whether that matters to you is entirely personal (not least that you may well prefer the emulations!) They don't sound the same (which is not to say worse), but they are much less expensive, much more practical and reliable and may well be just as inspiring musically, depending on how and what you play. Perhaps we should try it. Möbius vs our four favourite old-school modulators. Thanks for watching!

The Keeley vibe's tone/playability sounded the best, to me. I used to have one. But I found the fuzz's volume very difficult to dial in with my rig and other pedals. I think it's because of how it's designed to stack with the modulation, being a workstation. It got to the point where I was literally only using the pedal for the vibe effect. So I sold it. I now have a sunface and vibe machine, which is an epic duo. But I do miss the Keeley vibe. It was always very easy to dial in and get good tone from. The Drybell's numerous trim pots and tweaking daunts me on certain days. I am big fan of one knob pedals. There's not a lot you can mess up. If Keeley made this ^ vibe in a stand alone pedal, I'm sure it would be very successful.

Of all of the Vibes I've tried, including the Drybell... The Deja Vibe (cream) is my favorite (as of now). It seems that a lot of other vibes tend to have a sweet spot and when you turn the depth up you lose note definition and when you turn the rate or depth down it's just too dark. The Deja seems to remain clear wherever you have the knobs set while still having the right throb and watery, lopsided warble.

A used MXR uni-vibe is around $85. The rest of those pedals are in the $250 to $450 range for used. That's an important little detail for the average home player. If you're just a bedroom player the MXR will work fine and leave extra money for other gear. However, the Monterey is more bang for the buck so you can almost compare it to the cost of buying two or three individual pedals.

@ThatPedalShow7 жыл бұрын
+ZenDriveSeven Yeah, certainly was a bit fizzier with these amps. As you heard, it's all dependant on what's happening in the front end of the amp, and it might be that that fizz is coming from the Super, because it all disappears entirely when you start driving the Victory. Hopefully that helps people get a handle on what to expect and what to try. Thanks for watching!

I was surprised you didn't mention increasing preamp drive in the Victory lessened the fizz (of Fuzz -> Vibe) in the same way a Treble Booster works "better" into an amp that's already overdriving. That is, the preamp is compressing down all the extra fizz, and the meat of the sound appears to return.

Just to add something in the year 2023, I tried out one of the newer model deja vibes because I liked the form factor more than the old cream enclosure (which I have). The old one sounds WAY different, and better to me, than the newer models. The new models can be tweaked much easier, allowing you to shape the swell to your liking which is great, but I was never able to get it close to the sound of the old one. The newer ones have more of the "seasick" sound, while the old one has more of the "chewy" throb. The newer ones can get a faster more extreme sound, but the old ones get that organic sweet spot that sounds like its breathing. Almost like it has an asymmetric swell. That old deja-vibe is still the best sounding vibe I have found.

I ended up with a Mojo many years ago, and I've never experienced a second of regret about that acquisition. Someday, I'd like to add the Sweetsound Ultra Vibe as well, as even Bob Sweet himself felt it had a different, and to his ears better, sound. Then again, I'm not made of money, so it may be a pipe dream.

i had a mojovibe it adds a lot of its own tone i would try the retrovibe for more clarity and to cut better in a mix

I'll second the request for a demo of the TC Viscous Vibe. Aside from the toneprint option which you guys have demonstrated the awesomeness of, it's got a throb-speed increase option when you hold down the switch -- it'll ramp up the speed. It doesn't have a full expression pedal, but it does nod to some of that on-the-fly setting changeability.

After reading most of the comments here I think that definitely you guys need to do an episode 2 on vibes, NOT forgetting the Drybell Vibemachine (v1 or 2) compared to others... I'd suggest Dunlop's Rotovibe, EHX Lester G and even Mobius.

+Francisco Fronza Agreed! Thanks for watching Francisco!

If I may suggest something else, keep the Mojo Vibe on the board for a next episode (if that happens) as a standard since is your (and most watchers also) favorite!! Cheers

The War On Drugs - Pain 4:38 What the hell is that guitar tone that kicks in with that crazy tone? A univibe? A Leslie ? Some modulation?
@7hotfuzz75 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure its a Leslie...usually has a leslie with him on tour so I'm assuming that's what it is

Really? All the Peach Fuzz's that I seem to be able to find only have three knobs, whereas the one behind Dan looks like it has 7 knobs

Found a nkt red dot sunface with box and candy. For 375$. Bought it. Thought it was cool really like it. Looked them up a week later. Some people are selling them for over 1k? Guess I'll hold on to mine and see if it turns into the new klon in terms of price 😅

One of the best vids ever on your show! Loved it, laughed a lot, 55 minutes of joy with my favorite modulation effect. Sounding like a fanboy (which I am...), because of your show I am just stocking up parts and consuming every DIY pedal vid here on YT to build a few by myself to understand all about those "fiddling with my transistors". I would love to hear more of that "It's a germanium fuzz" or other things about the parts used by the pedals and their influence on sound. I think Dan will know a lot about this stuff.

+mosesve1 yeah, we're thinking about doing something like this, would be lots of fun. Cheers M :)

When using a vibe, should the pulse be related in anyway to the tempo of the song? I guess having it close but not spot on is bad. Having it doing it's own thing is probably best right?
@PaisleyWilde7 жыл бұрын
simon french I try to sync it to the music if that's the effect I'm going for, you can do that just by turning the rate knob. However, it is much less noticeable in a band context and is very forgiving with regards to rate.
@justingarcia77227 жыл бұрын
simon french it's kinda like tremolo, you can drive yourself crazy matching tempo and often the magic is in the arrhythmic mojo when it's out of time but I find if you are using a harder clipping version of either effect, it can be more advantageous to place it in time, but don't drive yourself crazy, whatever feels right!
@InVacuo7 жыл бұрын
I think it's also personal preference, Dan and Mick were talking in a previous episode (so not about vibe in particular) about how it can be nice to have your effects running at their own speed with no relation to song tempo, I personally like to have them with the tempo but A: I'm pretty OCD and B: I use a Strymon Mobius so it's super easy to set the tempo. :)
@jeremiahmountain24607 жыл бұрын
I think it's like delay, you can have it tapped out to the tempo or have it do its own thing(tempo) and it has its own thing. Robin Trower-Bridge of Sighs is a great example. It's slightly faster then the tempo but works

technically the bulb ldr is not what gives the univibe its sound/ there are 4 stages . the main difference is that each stage has a different size cap a 470pf a 4.7n a 16n and a 220n. its these different size caps basically 10 to one ratio in each stage that give the warble that seperates a vibe from a phase, you can make a phase 90 sound like a univibe by changeing those 4 caps and they have no ldrs or bulbs/.
