somebody has access to your card then. You need to get a new card from your bank. If it is not an authorized transaction, then it will keep on doing the same thing. My bank usually sends me text message at my phone if it is suspicious transaction. If I said no reply that I didn't do that transaction. My bank will hold my card and send me a new one. You need to let your bank know that you didn't do the transaction so that they can hold the card and give you a new one.

Get a local debit card. Use it for your daily transactions. Transfer only the amounts that you usually intend to use. Never use your major credit cards on online and local transactions. Especially if you have a large credit limit on your cards. Convenience always comes with a penalty.
@TheChenny732 жыл бұрын
If your bank doesn’t have ability to automatically text or email you for each transaction I suggest you switch to a bank that does. This way you are immediately notified when a transaction happens. Also, most banks allow you to Freeze or Lock card when not in use. It’s a good idea to do this.

That’s solid advice and my bank allows this. This online bank also has another feature. When checking my cards I found that they don’t show a CVC code. This codes come from your phone app and can be changed manually or optionally rotate every 5 minutes.

Get a "Wise" or "Remitly" account setup so you can transfer money giving you direct access to money without a card at least you wouldn't be completely cut off from your funds. I've heard others say and this makes sense to have more than one account with a different bank which would also give you access so as not to be dependent on a single source or card to get funds when needed.

Something else guys - you can set up notifications for ANY transaction that is made on your card without the card being used - or - set up notifications for ANY TRANSACTION. You will then be notified by text message within minutes of any transaction made to your account. I am often notified of transactions at the gas pump while i am still pumping gas! I have found this to be a very effective use of the notifications feature of most cards today. Sorry you’re going through this - I know what a pain it is! Here is a tip, If your card has a chip, the only point of entry to your card is the CVV at the back. Memorize the number, and put tape on it, and blackened with a marker or a pen. make it in a way that you will know if the tape is removed or lifted. And all you need to do is check the tape when you pay for things or handing out your card. Without the CVV, they won't be able to use it online. Also, if it is available, use two-factor authentication or at least a card usage notification, so that you get a notification or email every time your card is used. In terms of card skimming, I always make it a point to pull or push or jiggle any atm or machine's card port. Every single time.

That happened to me twice. I was given free Equifax for a year to monitor my card. Mine was so obvious when it happened. what i found out when i was in the ph in may, if they have a card terminal you can use apple, google, or samsung pay. the workers may not know it, but it is there. i would show them my card, then when they give the terminal for me to put my card in, i would "boop" my phone to pay. most of them would be dumbfounded about what happened, but the payment would always go through. I feel like going through those payment methods are safe, often the number the phone gives them is different from your card number for your safety. bonus if you have a older samsung phone it has a magnetic strip simulator thing and would work on older terminals.

I am a Canadian ( 5th generation) and I am married to a Filipina and she thought she was teaching me what not to do with my cards when we were in the Philippines, but I had been there many times so I knew what not to do!! But Mike or anybody else going to the Philippines never try to get money from a bank in the Philippines because they will charge your bank way more then when what you received. It happened to me but as soon as I got back to our house in Iloilo I checked my bank account and got right on the phone to my banks online customer service and was on cam to cam and showed them the receipt from the bank and my bank fixed it right away. But lots of banks do not have that service in Canada. So if you can open a bank account in a bank in the Philippines so that you can transfer money from your bank to a bank account in your name in the Philippines. Or ask your bank has something like Western Union to send you money from your account here in Canada.

I also work with banks and work with these cards. Keep the card number away from the eyes of the people. Anyone who have knowledge how these cards are processed can do a lot of fraudulent transactions using the card number alone. Don't worry with the details printed on the receipt, the important details are masked with asterisks. Well, that's one. You should be aware too that syndicates are the dangerous ones as they've secured machines that can scan the rf signal of emv cards. They can scan your card even when they're secured inside your wallet and pocket (don't quote me on that though, I haven't seen it done right to my face) but you get it, that's why there are rf signal blocker wallets being sold. What they do is when your card is scanned, they send that data to their server then they can decode the information saved on the emv chip then they can produce an exact copy of your card. There were stories that came out using that method in Brazil. As for PH I'm 🤐. Take care out there.

Yea they are sending it and said it will take two days but unless they use DHL that is very unlikely the fastest overnight FedEx we got was two week on Boracay and others have been way longer. You are correct though they are not charging us and after an investigation we may get refunded

When your not traveling have photo copies made of your passport and ID to carry with you. And as for getting your new card faster get your new card sent to a family member here in Canada and get them to send it to you by you by ups, because post offices in the Philippines is not safe there are a lot of thief's in the post office there!!

The scammers will do the little transactions to cover up the big ones. There might be somebody who hacked your computer or you logged in to a phishing site?

My second trip to the Philippines I had my wallet stolen. I had help from my stepmom to get my cards cancelled and get me a number I could call the bank. They sent me a new card by DHL and it arrived 3 or 4 days. Sucks when this stuff happens and you are far from your home bank.

Brian, the first time I made the trip to the Philippines my Filipino friends here told me to go and have hidden pockets with zippers to put your wallet and money in. Or wear the old style underwear that has the opening in it for to go to cr from, take and put your if and big cash in there and have one opening stitched shut and a zipper on the other do that you can go in the car and take out what cash you think you might need. And as for your passport get photo copies of the pages you will need to show and put them in a Ziploc bag to carry and hide your passport at home. That way your safe, or photo copy all of your ID and carry the copies.

@@G.Linya1956 On my 3rd trip I did not carry my passport or wallet just photo copies. I only carried what cash I would need for the day and anything else I took went in an army medical bag that is very secure. This time in the Philippines a photocopy of my passport was not accepted for exchanging Canadian money to peso so had to bring my passport for that but now have an ACR card so can use that instead of my passport.

Our Bank in Costa Rica sends us an email with every transaction. I was surprised when we received a $3 charge from a San Jose barber we had never been to, while we were in the Philippines for weeks! It was my wife's card, and she doesn't even remember ever using the card. I've never even had a haircut in San Jose. We got it cancelled right away. Thieves will start with small transactions to see if you notice, and then they'll start going larger and larger once they can create a use-pattern. If someone suddenly runs up hundreds of dollars, that's noticeable to a bank. But if they start with 3, then 5, then 18, then 48, then 158... it creates a digital trail that looks like you are somewhere just using your card as normal. My Paypal Business Debit Mastercard also sends an email and notification with every transaction. It's extremely helpful.
