That Tog Spot

4 жыл бұрын

In 10 minutes, you'll see a very exciting behind the scenes sneak peek at a dog photography studio shoot, on location in a hired space, covering how to photograph dogs, a full dog studio setup and shooting for both reliable obedient dogs and brand new 8 week old puppies! Using what we had at the venue and a bit of imagination, we cover how to get those dog studio photos in an actual dog photoshoot, and show you more than we've ever done before...
HUGE thank you to Jess Clarehugh, international dog agility competitor and dear friend, for providing us with her precious dogs for this session.

One thing I'd add: it's super important to have an assistant (likely, not the owner) who knows how to work with the doggo. It will save lots of time and make for much better shots, plus less stress on the hound.

Such an awesome video! Gives a great insight! Have you ever done a video based on photographing black dogs? I have a Nikon D5600 with a slightly worn out lense and I try to take action shots (outdoors) of my black lab but it just seems sooo difficult! 😕💜
@GC-yi9nj
@GC-yi9nj 2 жыл бұрын
if you're doing outdoor shoots with a fast moving subject, you'll have to have a higher shutter speed of at least 1/1000th - this will allow your images not to have motion blur. use continuous autofocus. widest possible aperture on your lens to let in the most amount of light. and use ISO to expose correctly.

I had a question! In a scenario where the dogs are NOT okay with the flashing of the lights, what alternative methods would you use? Or would you just keep doing it very slowly with rewards until they get more comfortable?
@ThatPhotographySpot

Desensitise if possible but if they are too stressed we will try modelling lights only (no flash) but again, if too stressed we’ll go head outside ☺️

Hey, I did an in-home studio session with the same kit with a bit more of a how to, just for headshots because the aim was shooting in a teeny tiny space(!), I run through more about the how-to there and also link to a blog post below with my actual backdrop and a colour chart from the manufacturer 🤓 That video can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoOTh5-onbpnhbM Thanks so much for commenting today!

@ThatPhotographySpot
@ThatPhotographySpot 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on your space really and a very large one would mean your speedlight won't have the power to fill it. 60cm would be good to try I think, and if you can go bigger then do so. I used to have a 1m one but it had two speedlights in for event shooting 👌

Loved your videos! They are really great! I have my own pet photogrphy studio and the thing I struggle the most is with the backdrop. My question to you is: have you ever considered using another kind of material instead of seamles paper? Have you tried other alternatives before? I use paper but it gets expensive to keep buyng it. Thank you! :-)

Hi Andre, yes I have used fabric, Muslin, vinyl and wood for studio backdrops, each over a period of maybe 1 year or more. For white backgrounds I prefer vinyl, for black I prefer fabric and for anything else - seamless paper. Hope this helps 😊

What size of paper background you use for this shoot? For dogs shoots at homes clients.
@ThatPhotographySpot
@ThatPhotographySpot 4 жыл бұрын
In homes using seamless paper is tricky because everyone has different sizes houses that don't always have a suitable space. This is 1.35m wide and is quite restrictive - I would usually use 2.1m wide as a minimum but you gotta do what you gotta do!

No apologies needed, this is a common question 🤓 Keeping the dog on a lead and keeping the session really calm is really important. It's very much about how 'you' handle the situation rather than the dog itself. We're going to look at doing a video to cover this very subject 👌
