900+HP 3 Rotor RX7 with DCT Trans?! (83MM Turbo + 9,000RPM EARGASM)

Turbo 3 Rotor RX7 with a DCT?! Normally we're all about 90's legends retaining manual transmissions, but this setup is glorious! Tajh originally built his RX7 with a t56 manual trans but then decided to take the leap into swapping a dual clutch transmission from a BMW and never turned back. The car is an absolute blast and delivers such a different sensation than we're used to feeling from an old school rotary. You did the right thing. The DCT is hottt, but its moving the FD away from its roots. A sequential would be the ultimate trans but a T56 is the way I would go.

The dct work you guys have done is awesome 👍 one question, in the vid it looks like there's a bit of lag between the paddle pull and the actual gear shift. Is that something you are able to improve in the dct tune?

@@dawggpie there is delay on low load shifts but that's intentional, because if you're driving grandma style it means you're not in rush so why would box have to be in rush then 😅 but as soon as you step on it, that's instant :P

@@HTGtuning ah I see. Is that too improve smoothness of shifts? I was driving a Porsche pdk recently and even at low load the programming felt pretty instantaneous. Possibly slower than high load but still very low latency. Gave a great perception. I've peppered you guys about this before, but any chance you'll figure out how to interface with the e60 s85 oem ecu (mss85 I believe) canbus? I don't think anyone has done it yet but I think literally every v10 e60 smg owner would switch over to dct in a second. 😁

@@dawggpie We already have communication with s85 ECU done. And yes, it can be as quick on light load as on high load and still be smooth, but as Tajh mentioned - I did that tune in like half an hour via anydesk with laggy internet :P We will go further than that when time comes :D

The only thing I kinda don't like is the delay between the shifts however, its obvious it stays on boost rather than falling off between shifts in a manual. I wonder how this thing would pull on a sequential. The body parts, paint, wheels, tintless, is perfect. Beautiful build. I’ve been watching and waiting for the tuners and people with deep pockets to start bringing more DCT transmission adaptations to some builds. Not that manuals aren’t amazing. But when people are trying to go insanely quick they usually turn to sequential manuals, which is essentially the same formula a DCT is trying to do. It’s just an automated manual that uses two clutch sets instead of one single clutch. One set takes care of odd gears and one set takes care of even gears. So one clutch is always free and ready to go. They’re pretty brilliant pieces of engineering and should be loved!
