The banner read “disallowed goal” and check for offside. The commentators and everyone knew that the goal had been disallowed before the check. Those in VAR knew what happened to that point. VAR and AVAR played dumb, were intentionally vague up until the point of refusing to correct the decision. The replay operator seemed entirely baffled and had to repeat himself verbatim multiple times, as though VAR’s eyes and ears had stopped working whilst everyone else could understand what was happening; that is absolutely not normal and seemed very intentional.

@@eiler1987 Glad someone else is pointing this out here! It’s maddening! The tech guy sees the on-decision is clearly offside before the check. Everyone in the stadium and the commentators see it being given as offside. It’s on the screen banner which all the VAR can see. It is NOT PLAUSIBLE they believed it had been given. All the details suggest otherwise and people are taking it at face value because they sound like idiots. But when the replay operator says it had been disallowed, he needs to repeat himself over and again to a AVAR who’s playing dumb and making bizarre statements in response like “offside, goal, yeah”. Do their eyes and ears and mouth not work properly? The real problem for me after hearing that is, if that's the kind of chaos that goes on behind the scenes, how can you trust these people with 'any' decision? You'd imagine a technology driven process to be cold, almost mechanical, very rational, and here you have a bunch of people talking over each other, rushing things over, and appearing in complete panic over the fact that they have to go over through a simple decision. If there ever was evidence that VAR is making things worse, this is it!!!

VAR hasn't made anything worse, still more right calls than wrong. The issue is with idiotic refs that don't know how to use technology. Im a spurs fan but i was confused about it, but they followed the rules properly, they just thought they were making a different decision. I also want to ask if the reaction would be this severe if it was spurs who were robbed of a goal instead. I dont think it would, i think the general reaction would be that its 'typical spurs'. So while i do feel sympathy, i do feel it is a sort of justice as liverpool have benefited more from var mistakes than any other team since the introduction of var. The problem is that var is being operated with pre var rules. That is why they cant go back after a decision is made. Because pre var rules say that officials cant go back and change decision after. The rules should have been adjusted to allow more chance to go back and change incorrect decisions.

Another big problem is that the final communication of the "verdict" is "check complete" instead of "NOT OFFSIDE NOT OFFSIDE NOT OFFSIDE" which of course it should be to avoid confusion. VAR has been in the premier league for 4 years and they never thought of this, wouldn't trust them to make proper procedures for communication now, need an independent body to investigate and work out better procedures.

What pisses me off more, is the fact that it was a brilliant finish from an individual player. An he should have another goal to his tally for the season. Its corruption at its finest, Premier League allowed Kane a goal a few years ago after what went down as an own goal, in relation to Diazs goal. As for the game itself, how can you say cant do anything the games restarted? The game had finished between united an Brighton a few years ago, an VAR ruled a penalty to Man United after the ref had blown the whistle. Absolute joke!

It is bonkers that the VAR official cannot have a talk with the referee under the advice of the 4th official, once Liverpool is standing there readying for a throw in. It is bonkers that one or two mis-spoken words can result in what any official perceives is an "uncorrectable" situation. It is bonkers that the whole officiating team does not put their trust in the official on the pitch to make the decision. The situation is embarrassing, but it must be done BECAUSE the situation is embarrassing. I think Cooper is terrible as a referee, but it is his job to sort this out and the officiating team needs to allow him and help him to do that. The VAR officials made themselves look hopelessly incompetent and undermined the rest of the officiating team in the process.

At the point when they realised the decision was wrong, Liverpool were taking a throw-in. As an act of sportsmanship, talk to the managers, admit the wrong call, and ask Spurs if they will allow Liverpool to score a goal. At first, it sounds farfetched, but it has happened before Villa vs Leeds

Insane that the replay operator was the only component man there. It just makes the argument that VAR should be handled by none Refs.

The thing is, why there is no rule on how to settle this kind of dispute, even tho everyone keep acknowledging these kind of mistake is common? this is not small issue, the clubs might incurred a lot of financial loss from that decision, especially in the this happen on small clubs and those who are in relegation battles. In fact by this logic, a lot of potential financial lost have been incurred in the past from these kind of "common" mistakes that don't get blown up. What is the resolution? Imagine you burn someone's houses by mistakes, and due to it's being common for human to make mistakes you took no repercussions nor the person that own the house receive any reparation cost for their loss. Look it's, about making sure that there is incentive for responsible party to not repeat this same mistakes every week, and even if mistakes happen we have a proper way to settle the dispute instead of just "oh yeah sorry we make mistake, accept it, game is already over and it's not our problem that you lost". I hate Liverpool, but this is just beyond that.
