There is already a rule that you can't pull a ball carrier. If the refs would actually call that on the half of the brotherly shove plays that they pull then I don't think it would be so broken. 10:57 That's not the fumblerooski. The fumblerooski is a trick play where the QB is under center and right after the snap, puts the ball on the ground behind the center and then pretends to still have the ball while sprinting away on a bootleg or handing off to a tailback who runs wide. Meanwhile, another player picks up the ball off the ground and runs in the other direction. The hope is that no one on D realizes the ball is sitting on the ground behind the center until it's too late. AFAIK, it's never been run in the NFL, because the NFL rules have long said you cannot intentionally fumble the ball - it's treated as a pass attempt and would be blown dead as an incompletion. The Holy Roller was allowed to stand because the refs couldn't be sure Stabler or the other Raiders were fumbling on purpose. But the fumblerooski is pretty obviously an intentional act - tough for a QB to claim that they 'accidentally' dropped the snap and then 'accidentally' ran away. It was legal in college football until 1992, and that's where people know it from. There is a similar play called the Bum-erooski, where the QB sneakily hands the ball off between his legs while taking the snap - usually to the fullback lined up right behind him in an I-formation. It's legal as long as the ball never touches the turf. That version has been executed in the NFL a few times. There's been folks who argue that you could still run the fumblerooski if the QB puts it on the ground behind them. As an intentional fumble, it would be treated like a pass attempt - but because it's a lateral pass, the ball would still be live. It's not clear whether this loophole would actually stand, and no team's ever tried to run it.

The most perfectly executed line jump I have seen was in a college football game between Oklahoma and Texas. Roy Williams jumped the Texas line and forced Chris Simms to throw an interception right to Teddy Lehman which scored a touchdown for Oklahoma.

It’s not about the fact that the Tush Push cannot seemingly be done by any other team. It’s about the fact that if your a player who’s forward progress has stopped then you shouldn’t be able to be pushed. You didn’t gain the yards yourself.

Nonsense that happens all of the time, especially near the goal line. By every team at every level. If you're not downed and the play isn't blown dead there's nothing wrong with getting a push from your teammates

Yeah banning the tush push makes no sense. If you ban a play, you need to specify which action makes it an illegal play, other wise you end up banning all similar plays. There needs to be a mechanic that is clear and defined. Otherwise leave it alone. -A Dolphins Fan.

I don’t know the exact percentage but isn’t the ass push at like 40ish% success rate for all other teams combined and the Eagles have like a 92% success rate or something? So that brings up the point of that the Eagles are just really good at the play… if it was a guaranteed 1st or tudder for every team I get maybe getting rid of the play but if it’s just one team that’s good at it, I think people need to stop being so soft Edit: I should’ve watched the video first lol

Remember when the NFL prevented the Bengals from winning the Super Bowl in 1989??? They made the no huddle offense illegal for the Super Bowl and the Bengals had used the no huddle to get to the Bowl. Yeah, they didn’t nfluenced the game blatantly and everyone still watches and thinks it’s all on the level. 😂😂😂

Other things you'll never see again due to rule changes: 1) People pulling guys off the pile ... sometimes quite aggressively 2) Slot receivers getting lit up going across the middle (or pulling up short, missing passes because of fear) 3) Wedge return blocking schemes on kickoff and punt returns 4) 10 players lining up on one side of the kicker for an onside kick 5) Quarterbacks beings tackled and being treated like any other offensive football players 6) Horsecollar tackles ... well, a few still can be seen, but they're penalized 7) Drop kicks ... while they're still very much legal, so may rules have been put in place to help kickers that the drop kick has become obsolete (other than Doug Floutie) 8) Those cool grid facemasks that were really popular in the early 2010s 9) Stickum ... and pics/vids of WRs (Biletnikoff) with goupy stickum all over their hands

i’ve always hated the “tush push” as a rugby fan the rule in football is that the play is dead when forward progress stops. the problem is the tush push (aka scrum) is that it means the runner STOPS and then is PUSHED FORWARD even more. the runner comes into contact with a wall of players and they just keep pushing him forward. it should be banned because that’s against the rules of the game. if you wanna keep it then get the rules changed to where you can push the runner forward after his forward progress has been stopped.

They need to double-down on the tush push. Codify it to look more like a rugby maul. Sure, you can push the ball carrier forward, but you forfeit any forward progress spot. The play doesn't end until the ball carrier is down or out of bounds. Push your QB for that extra yard? Great! But if the defense can keep the QB upright and push him 30 yards back into the end zone, well, thems the breaks.

It bothers me when the eagles or eagles fans say "other teams try it but they can't do it like we do it". That's true, but that's because they've been doing it for 2 seasons already. They came up with the idea, they went to a rugby expert, they've been practicing it for a while. They league will catch up and soon many teams will be 75%+ successful doing it. That's when it gets boring.

The nfl bans hurdling the O line because it's "dangerous" but is some how ok with ball carriers hurdling defenders running at full clip at each other where the chance of extreme injury is really high, not to mention unfair in a league pushing defenders to hit lower.

The NFL should allow this play to stay, and here's one reason why that no one's thinking of: The U.S. now has millions more people living here, many of them not familiar with NFL football. Why not make a rugby-like play a part of the NFL, to attract U.S. newbies to the sport? The new folks might indeed be familiar with rugby, and like it, and the brotherly shove does resemble a rugby scrum.
