Alan Haynes' interest in the blues began a scant 4 years after he began playing guitar at the age of 8. Another four years after that he decided to fully dedicate himself to the genre.

Used to love going to see Alan fronting the Texas Boogie Band in 1977-8. Had his set memorized, heavy on Johnny Winter, Skynyrd, Clapton, Hendrix, Freddie King, etc. Learned so much about blues from the shows. Always the coolest cat in the room too

We played with them a few times at Dome shadows and The Old Plantation Club in Houston. Alan had a girl singer with them and Tommie Shannon as well. Great guy

If he sounds like Johnny Winter its because as a kid he was the main young roadie for Johnny. Learned most of his early licks from watching Winter first hand. Back in the day 1990's you could catch Alan at Bob's Generic Blue Bar on 6th Street in Austin ( When Austin was Austin ) . He would play for one or a hundred people, just as intense. The bar literally held. at best, fifty people. Alan would stroll around playing amazing licks right in your face. The drummer at that time, and bass player were both old Winter staff. Amazing beyond amazing. Haynes then vanished and surfaced in Europe. ( catch some of his stunning performances on those video's. ) So great to see him back in Texas. He is the real deal.

I first saw him at Nuno's on 6th street. Also saw him a few years back at Sam's Burger Joint in San Antonio, another small venue. He's still walking out into the audience and playing at people's table. I just love him.

I used to see Alan play at JOE'S Generic blues bar on 6th. His backing band (typically) was the legendary Uncle John Turner on drums and Appa Perry on bass. I have great memories of those shows and that venue. More recently, I used to catch Alan at Ginny's (now the Little Longhorn Saloon), where he still sometimes plays. Always a great show!

BTW, that guitar was previously owned by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Johnson. Quite a lineage for a single guitar!
