In this video I show a couple of very important install procedures that will make the installation and the unit trouble free.
The unit we installed is a Rinnai RUR98I natural gas unit with a dedicated 3/4" circulation loop already installed by the contractor when the house was built.
The bypass valve is important if there is no return loop in the house and must be installed. The factory installed plug must be removed and the supplied filter installed in it place.

Thank you Mike for taking the time to come to my house in St. John’s Florida and going over the pros and cons of a conventional water tank system and a tankless system. Your knowledge and experience assisted me in making my decision to go with a Rinnai tankless system. Looking forward to having you install the system in a couple of weeks.

Mike, your videos are very informative and really made my DIY install (RUR199e) a breeze. I had a gas company run my gas line and I ran the electrical for an outlet and plumbed in the water lines (yes, I pulled permits and had a code inspection!). A key point is to bleed the gas line and water lines BEFORE powering on the unit. I did that, very well, I thought; but, I got a code 63 on the first run. I shut down the unit, burped the pressure relief and it fired right up on the second go. All of your instructions are logical and well-thought-out. Thank you for making the videos!!!

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. kzbin.infoUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

Mike after doing so much research I had decided to buy TAKAGI brand tank less heater. Then I came across that TAKAGI got sold to the A O SMITH. After TAKAGI got sold , their tech support is not doing well to support their products. So after that I started to do research for the RINNAI and realized that RINNAI has the best tech support and product support with great warranty. Also they are industry leading since long time. Also this is Japanese company so I would prefer better quality with best service and warranty. So I finally bought Rinnai RUC98IN. I tried to educate myself from all videos and article from youtube and internet , Yours is one of the best informative video to the current plumbing ,gas and construction code. You have shown every single small detail very nicely. I am requesting that when you do next time any installation video, please use close body cam like "GO PRO" kind. And also please upload full video so the all details can be seen. Mike, Could you talk a little about how to go about installing a dedicated return line system. Does it need to run to the furtherest hot water faucet in the house, even if we rarely use the sink in that part of the house or can it run to the furtherest facet that you want hot water to be available? Would PEX be a good choice for the dedicated return line? How about check valves? Do you use more than one and if so where? Thank you.

I have two RSC-199in units and I’m not sure where to connect the two wires on the pump. The TSB from renanai says to connect it to white and green wire by condensation discharge pipes but we can’t find those wires.

Mike is supposedly a good factory trained tech. He should know what he is doing. I like the fact that it comes with the bypass valve. I've always used Navien tankless heaters. Navien does have all stainless steel heat exchangers. Which I like better than any other. Stainless steel doesn't corrode out like the Copper heat exchangers. Nice install job. Did he do it? I dont care for 2 things. 1. The gas line coming down the wall is really croocked. I would have used rigid steel pipe coming down the wall. I never expose flex gas lines. 2. At the bottom of this gas line. Is where I would have put my drip leg. He has one over under the tankless. I just think it would catch more under the line coming down the wall.

There was nothing there except a little slither of thread left. Is there a way to get more pressure throughout my home. I only have 1 tankless, but I have a 2 story home? Thank you for what you do!!

Mike, you are awesome. These videos are so well made and you do an excellent job explaining everything. You are inspiring me to attempt to do my own install of a RUR199eN. This brings me to my question, do you have a video of an outdoor installation? I am leaning towards going with an external unit (located in CA) because of the venting hassle and not wanting to put a (large) hole in my wall for venting. I'm also worried I mess up the roof connection given the multiple angles (slopped roof). Plus I wanted the extra room in my garage. Anyway initially, I was intimidated on powering an exterior unit, until I watched your video on outdoor power solutions. I have stucco exterior walls and will need to make holes for the gas, hot, and cold lines. What is the best way to do clean, air-tight connections through stucco for these lines? Also, are the exterior units loud? If so, I may revert back to mounting it indoors as in my garage it would be in a closet. Lastly, do you recommend vibration isolation pads when mounting the unit to lessen the noise? If so can you recommend something? Thank you again for all of these videos. I created a playlist of them and have gone through half of them in the last 48 hours.

Great video, clear and quite informative. I would like to install a RUR98iN unit at my home through a certified rinnai plumber while I provide the necessary material. I have these two questions : 1- Is this the vent used in the video a "Rinnai 223176PP 12-Inch Condensing Horizontal Termination Kit"? (12 Inch is good enough for my case). If not can someone point me to the right name to search on Amazon for e.g. 2- Does the valve kit come with the RUR98iN unit? + Would this valve kit be better: "Webstone 44043PR 3/4-Inch IPS Isolator EXP E2 Tankless Water Heater Service Valve Kit with Clean Brass Construction"? Thank You.

The vent is a Ubbink horizontal termination kit comes with a 12” pipe two coolers one elbow . The box must say for condensing appliances only. The valve kit that comes with the unit is very good.عصام Issam عبد الله AbdAllah

Hey Mike, first off - great videos. You are super helpful and informative. I have a question about this install. My home is plumbed with CPVC throughout - but there is about 15-18 inches of copper at the current WH supply and return. Can I replace this with CPVC to remedy the corrosion? Can the whole unit be plumbed using CPVC? It looks like the install in this video uses CPVC? Any help is appreciated. Keep up the great work... Installing a RU199iN soon! :)

Mike, I have a manifold type (home run) type plumbing system and recently installed a RUR199iP system which of course has the build-in circulation pump. . I do not have a dedicated return system so I installed the crossover kit that came with the RUR199ip at the farthest faucet to the system. I am not sure how much the circulation pump is actually helping to get hot water sooner and have been considering converting my plumbing system back to a trunk-and-branch type system. My question is what would be the effect if if I were to put crossover valves at each of my plumbing fixtures since as each are on their own plumbing circuits, instead of converting the plumbing system back to the traditional style of system. Thank you. Larry

First thanks for the videos! Can you describe the conditions you would consider using the dual vents compared to the concentric venting?
@TheBuddylab
@TheBuddylab 6 жыл бұрын
vbbartlett both will make the unit work very good. The double vent worked better on longer runs and it’s cheaper then the concentric vent pipe. ( you must use schedule 40 pipe) The concentric vent works better on the short runs like what you see in the video. I hope that was helpful. Thanks for the comment Mike

Yes thank you very much. Im having it installed in a basement and the length is 15+ ft so provides me a good idea on what I should expect.
@TheBuddylab
@TheBuddylab 6 жыл бұрын
vbbartlett so 14 plus feet, how man elbows because every elbow is equivalent to 5 feet of pipe. It would be perfect if the vent could be as straight as possible. Mike
@vbbartlett
@vbbartlett 6 жыл бұрын
The run of pipe would go up and turn 90 deg at the ceiling and to 10ft directly out above the sill plate. At worst it would have on additional 45 deg to go out at a different location. (only because the furnace intakes might be too close to where I hoped it would exit.) I believe code says I have to be 5' from the two air vents for the util room.
