The absolute rawness of his performances especially in this era is still shocking to hear.

I miss how genre bending and raw Conor used to be when making music. I know everyone grows up, and changing style is a good thing generally. But musically, Conor's settled into making fairly prosaic country/folk/Americana now. Lyrics are still top knotch but I wish he still experimented more with the music.

holy fuck I haven't thought of this song in 10 years at least. I can't believe he was still playing it in 2011. This performance is insane.

This was the song that made me listen to Bright Eyes - I ws working overtime in an office on a Saturday morning sometime around 2000 and this was played on Radio 1. I was hooked immediately and it took me the best part of a year to get hold of the album here in the UK. I've been hooked ever since :)

I think you're alone on that one, 4000Wiggins. This performance was as epic as the song. God, I have had this song stuck in my head out of the blue through my entire sleep. I woke craving it. This has satisfied.

I wish I could meet Conor and get into his psyche and get to know him. He seems like such an interesting and wonderful person, yet very broken and wild.

id say you nailed it. just saw him play on sunday, he was hammered and manic. other times, he seems to be happy and well adjusted. who knows.

Quirky Puns How was he live? I'm a bit young yet, so I can't really travel to wherever he performs if it isn't nearby, but it's been a dream of mine to see him live for almost four years. Was the show for Ruminations?
@woofwoof13458 жыл бұрын
great! i mean i got there halfway through the set, so i missed the whole ruminations portion. he had an intermission, i walked in to lua and he stuck to 'wide awake' and 'lifted' he was drunk as hell by the end of the show, slurred a bit, forgot some lines, was really manic. i mean...but it was really authentic, and it was a small venue in chicago so when he'd talk to us it felt really intimate. i've never seen a performer so intense, and even drunk he didn't miss a note.
@woofwoof13458 жыл бұрын
i was driving straight from nashville to the show. i DID want to catch the whole show (til st. dymphna kicks us out's been on repeat) but im glad i missed only ruminations in retrospect. guessing you live in UK or AU because of the way you used 'yet', but catch him live first chance you get! he sold out months in advance here.

this whole set is dark as hell for 2011. is he handpicking his most disturbing songs?
@thebloggervlogger7928 жыл бұрын
Quirky Puns there's barely any dark songs on this set. well, maybe to u they're dark, i absolutely love the darker songs so I don't mind at all. u say there's alot of dark songs on the set, could u name them?

Most of Conor's songs are dark but that is just who he was back then it made him appeal to wider audiences.. This set is super surreal to me though the lighting and him having his hood up and singing the songs like he means what he is singing I can't help but get chills when I see it!
@woofwoof13457 жыл бұрын
woah, this was one min ago? yeah, i agree. he looks like he needs sleep or is just....pissed off for some reason, but it does make this whole set pretty cinematic.
@brittnickx07 жыл бұрын
I saw him during his the people's key tour and he was certainly in a different mind set but he still had a dark presence to him... I don't know what it is but bright eyes never gets old to me I'm about 13 years into being a fan and every song is different for me as the years go by to a lot they mean less each year but to me they are more meaningful and I understand them better.. But this is a very dark set I agree 100% with your first statement!

Really? I find its one of my favourites live. I like how it sounds a little bit different each time, I think that's the charm of a bright eyes show... Each one is a little bit different

Yea I don't know. I kind of regret making this comment because I really do love this band, and Im liking the new record and I hate putting the negative out there. In the past when I've seen them play this live I felt like they always struggled keeping the beat on this one. As if it was on the verge of falling apart. I do love the recorded version though, and it's one of the songs that made me really love this band.
@UnicornsAreTight10 жыл бұрын
4000Wiggins I get where you're coming from when you say that it feels like it's about to fall apart but I really like that, it feels desperate in a passionate type of way It is reminiscent of Cursive's The Ugly Organ album. I really love that style, but yeah, I get where you are coming from.
