Great video as usual. I think another cool element to Dark Savior that not a lot of people even realise is that the opening of the game is secretly timed, and how quickly you reach your first objective actually completely changes the opening of the game and the story going forward. There are 3 different openings you can get, and one of them involves defeating the captive on the boat, so the whole story going forward is just completely different which is really cool

That's the same with Shenmue, if you get to X point in so many in-game days, the outcome is different. (this is the spoiler free version) So many gems like this went overlooked, and it's kinda sad.

Great list! I've added Deep Fear to my list of Saturn games to prowl for at the retro game stores. I recently replayed Dark Savior, Legend of Oasis and Panzer Dragoon Saga and they're all stellar (PDS is my all-time favorite game). One side note, Shining The Holy Ark is both a direct sequel to Shining in the Darkness on the Genesis (which it was it's a FPS dungeon crawl) and a prequel to Shining Force III, which has many of the same characters and it builds on the story. The US really got shafted in not getting all three parts of SFIII. :(

I can kinda understand what SEGA is likely thinking with the Saturn and Dreamcast exclusives and better versions of games (Like Sonic Adventure). I imagine their pride is all "You had the chance, you didn't take it. And I'm not giving you another." It's the only reason I can think of that they'd either A. Let good games get lost to time or B. Hurt their own reputation by making worse versions (e.g. Adventure DX) the only way to play otherwise great games. That said, Sonic Jam is the Sonic Origins we should've had.

Legend of Oasis was a game I played back in my childhood, but unfortunately I wasn't skilled enough to get it's tricks, so I ended up just wandering aimlessly. How I wish I could easily replay it... much like Dark Savior, Shining Force and Mystaria. A part of me hopes Nintendo might start carrying Saturn titles for the NSO, but that might be hoping for a little too much- just like it may be too much to hope SEGA actually gives the aforementioned gamea remakes... Also a list like this without Guardian Heroes? A surprise, but that since one game IS available to everyone with an XBOX I guess I can let it pass.

Good Lord!! The old bucket western controller!! That thing alone was enough to put me off buying a sega saturn for many years!! An interesting topic though, as the bulk of the sega saturn library is technically stuck on the console as multiplatform releases were not so common back then and many are not re-released even years later. Saturn Bomberman, Shining Force 3, Vatlva, Bulk Slash, Magic knight Rayearth, Dragon Force 1 & 2... There are just so many! Burning Rangers is a mix for me. It's one of my favourite Saturn games due to its fast action and the fact that the levels randomise with each playthrough after you finish the game. Couple that with a large list of ppl to rescue and get messages from and you have a game that will last you ages if you want to get everything. They even put Sonic, Claris & Elliot from Nights into dreams in there as well as the devs! But there is no doubt that the game pushed the saturn to its knees and the game barely runs. If anything happens on screen, the framerate tanks & controlling your character becomes a challenge in and of itself. Still, I found hours of fun in the game in spite of itself so that says a lot about the design.

I think it will reach a point that since the IP owners and major companies don't put their old games legally to purchase in a digital plataform these games will be forgotten completely. Nodoby can do anything because of the copyright and the companies don't do anything because they don't feel like it. It's a no win situation...

Love your vid as usual. I still think the 3D capabilities get a bad rep. Powerslave, for instance, was way better visually on Saturn than PS. Depended on programmers. Transparencies were better on PS, yes, Tomb Raider and Castlevania SotN being good examples. But just a shame Saturn didn't succeed 'cause 3D wise, Saturn didn't have that weird shimmer thing that the PS had. Saturn could have been the best 2D system ever and probably is. What a shame Sega just screwed up with the 32X. Instead of putting that $ into Saturn. Still, imo, Saturn games in the whole hold up now visually more than 90% of PS games.
