Fun fact, my wife is the voice of Hibana for the English version, Wikipedia has the incorrect first name and misspelled her last name with a “S” missing. Our oldest son was able to sit with the sound engineer as his mom made the fighting noises which he thought was great and came home to tell me the grunts and woo haa sounds.

@@kindmulberry7196 True, there's a lot of shovelware on the PS2, but that can be said for virtually any console. The PS2 has an absurd number of games in its library. Not every game is going to be San Andreas or God of War 2, but I don't think "most" of the good games got overlooked. There were just a lot of great games that flew under people's radars for various reasons.

@@GiordanDiodato the sword wasn't a problem for me, it made for a couple of tense moments but usually I'd get a couple of kills in a timely fashion. I'd say the platforming and some of the bosses killed me more often, Nightshade's last boss was brutal to beat, nearly broke the controller a few times while in Shinobi starting at stage 4 onwards that was when I felt the game really kicks into full gear (Though stage 3 wasn't the easiest at first) and it made you work to win, got stuck on stage 6 for a looooong time because of the boss in the hallway. The last boss took a few tries but it was a loooooooong fight until I figured out what to do. Great games though, too many my laptop isn't the best to play those games on an emulator.

@@thatvideogamesshow , here is a list of games that honestly need to be mentioned, played, respected, and talked about more for the PS2. Black - While EA is mostly known for its revival of the Star Wars: Battlefront games and its Battlefield series (and Battlefield actually got its start for the PC and PS2), Black, despite being a bit generic, is actually a good looking FPS game for the PS2 that still holds up surprisingly well today. Yes, the game is a bit on the short side, and it lacks bosses, but Black honestly needs a better, as well as more expansive, sequel for modern video game platforms. If Psychonauts can get a good sequel, then so can this game. Galactic Wresting Featuring Ultimate M.U.S.C.L.E. - This is arguably the last game to have the usage of the same wrestling game engine that THQ and AKI had used for such massive hits as WCW Vs. The World for the PS1, WCW Vs. NWO: World Tour and WCW/NWO: Revenge for the N64, Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 and 2 for the N64, WWF WrestleMania 2000 and WWF: No Mercy for the N64, and Def Jam: Vendetta and Def Jam: Fight for New York for the PS2. While the M.U.S.C.L.E. franchise had a poorly received NES/FDS video game back in the day, this game is actually a pretty good wrestling game in its own right with creation tools as robust as many WWE titles from the PS2 onward. Phantom Brave - This game is brought to you by the people that brought you Disgaea, which is Nippon Ichi Software/NIS America, except that its story is completely unrelated to that particular franchise. However, this game is also a good game in its own right, as well as a very good, if not criminally underrated, SRPG in its own right, and its story is also a very good one. La Pucelle: Tactics - Like the previous game, this game is an SRPG that was made by Nippon Ichi Software/NIS America. However, while that game had nothing to do with the world of Disgaea, this game is essentially Disgaea, but from the viewpoint of the heroes, which are typically villains, in the Disgaea series. However, like Phantom Brave, the story to this game is pretty good as well, and both of those games have very good English and Japanese dialogue and voices. Honestly, I prefer this game and Phantom Brave to Disgaea and I find their stories to be better overall. Daisenryaku VII: Exceed - If you like things like World of Warships, World of Tanks, Risk, Stratego, Advance Wars, and anything that is like them, then this entry of the long running Daisenryaku series is right up your alley and it is also said to be the best entry in the entire series. (There is also a Daisenryaku VII game that is for the Xbox, but it also has less features than this game, yet it is also a good game in its own right). The Adventures of Cookie & Cream - I heard about a game that is called It Takes Two be a super big hit for multiple current video game platforms and this game is also a very criminally underrated cooperative 3D action/platformer/puzzle/racing game that technically was kind of like that game, but it was made for the PS2, and its story is also considerably more lighthearted than that game. Radiata Stories - This is Square Enix trying to make something different and it is kind of like a hybrid of its own JRPG of Chrono Cross, its own Mana JRPG series, and the Suikoden JRPG series that was made by Konami. This game, despite being made a well known video game studio, has consistently flown under the radar and literally no one talks about how great of a JRPG that this game was for the PS2, and, as of this writing, as far as I know, it has not had a re-release or remaster made, which is honestly disrespectful to this game. Enthusia Professional Racing - Arguably an even stronger rival for Gran Turismo than R: Racing Evolution, which was mentioned in this video, Enthusia Professional Racing is the lone attempt by Konami to get into the simulation/arcade racing genre. Many things that this game did were actually, gasp, BETTER than what Sony did with its Gran Turismo games, but some of them were not as well done as the Gran Turismo series, and Konami should honestly not only revive, but also improve upon, this series, and, with most of its intellectual properties up for grabs by anyone that wants to work for Konami, now is honestly the best time to make a sequel to a criminally underrated racing game for the PS2. Dororo: Blood Will Tell - This game is based upon a manga and an old Japanese legend about a baby that was born with demon parts and he has to get his human body back, or something to that extent. Basically, it is a cross between Shadow of the Colossus and the Onimusha and Devil May Cry franchises, but more like the last two franchises than Shadow of the Colossus. Still, you do fight big enemies and bosses on occasion, but the smaller enemies and bosses are just as tough as their larger counterparts. Dr. Muto - Midway finally got an attempt at a kiddie character game and, while it is not perfect, as well as a bit too much of a collect-a-thon, it is still a good and mostly solid 3D action/platformer game. (This message will continue in another post.)

@@thatvideogamesshow (This message is continued from the previous post.) Test Drive Unlimited - While the Xbox 360 and PC ports of the game not only get all of the love, but also all of the aftermarket/custom modifications and hacks, especially the PC version of the game, the PS2 and PSP ports of the game are not bad themselves. Yes, the controls and AI are not always spot on (though those oversights are corrected in the PC port by a lot of modifications and hacks), it still plays pretty well, and, like R: Racing Evolution, and Racing Lagoon for the PS1, it too is kind of an RPG of sorts as well and it is also a pretty solid title, and this game, as well as its later sequel of Test Drive Unlimited 2, are the reasons why Test Drive Unlimited (3): Solar Crown is being made for all modern video game platforms. Also, the street map to this game is eerily accurate to what is on the real life version of Oahu...it is not a one for one bit of accuracy with that island, but it is done well enough to get you to approximately where you need to go, should you ever visit that part of Hawaii in real life. Yes, you read that right, this game has one of, if not THE, biggest map(s) to ever be in a PS2 video game, and, unlike nearly every other video game map, it is based upon a real world location. Crimson Tears - Everyone talks about how good that God Hand is, how mediocre that Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance is, and they also even mention the controversy, and questionable story, of Final Fight: Streetwise, but no one talks about how underrated, as well as surprisingly good, that Crimson Tears is from Capcom on the PS2. Yes, the female characters look like they belong in an adult film and that their clothes are from an adult book/clothing store, but it is honestly a better version of The Ninja Warriors franchise that was made by Taito, and it is also in 3D. Also, Spike (now Spike Chunsoft) and DreamFactory helped Capcom make this underrated gem of a fighting game, so it has those things that are going for it as well. True Crime: New York City - While this game is not as good as its predecessor, namely, True Crime: Streets of L.A., it is not as horrible as everyone says that it is for any of the platforms that it was released upon, but, at least its attempt to have a sequel led to the Square Enix franchise of Sleeping Dogs, so I guess that is kind of a win. True Crime: Streets of L.A. - While True Crime: Streets of L.A. is the better game of this pair of games, both games had better combat, MUCH bigger areas to explore, and a MUCH better story than any of the Grand Theft Auto games for the PS2, and yet even Yakuza and Mafia get talked about more than this pair of games, though both of those franchises are also good in their own right. This video game series honestly needs a revival. Also worth mentioning are these games: Godzilla: Save the World Chaos Legion Shadow of Rome Dokopan Kingdom Deus Ex Musashi: Samurai Legend (its prequel for the PS1, which is called Brave Fencer Musashi, is also a good game) Project: Snowblind Cold Winter Summoner Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil Darkwatch: Curse of the West Primal Kill Switch Project Eden The Thing Freedom Fighters Urban Chaos: Riot Response The Mark of Kri Beyond Good and Evil Tak: The Great Juju Challenge Extermination The Red Star Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis Soul Nomad & the World Eaters Sky Gunner Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 Tales of Legendia Lifeline Oni Steambot Chronicles Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner Way of the Samurai Way of the Samurai 2 Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel Kim Possible: What's the Switch Drakan: The Ancient's Gates Legend of Kay Kya: Dark Lineage Sphynx and the Cursed Mummy Syberia II (This message will continue in another post.)

kessen 2 didn't continue the story. Its an entire new game/story sharing the same base mechanics as kessen but improve upon it. Kessen is set to the late Sengoku Jidai period (early 1600s) in Japan, and is a very historical game while kessen 2 is a very fantasy Romance of the Three Kingdoms adaptation. Kessen 3 changes up its gameplay and borrows some fantasy elements from kessen 2 but tone it down. And is a prequel to the first kessen, and takes place in Japan mid to late 1500s.

Spartan Total Warrior is one of my all time favorite games. It makes you feel like a real spartan with its block mechanic. Using your shield to knock back a group of enemies surrounding you and create openings is genius. And deciding when its safe to attack and when you should defend creates a real tension to the battles. It also sparked my interest in similar games where I found Shadow of Rome and Colosseum Road to Freedom which are absolute gems

I remember eternal ring was one of the first games I got when PS2 dropped in October of 2000. I was also one of the earliest to get a PS2 because my brother hid one aside during the initial craze when he worked at Target, he almost got fired for that lol. I distinctly remember getting eternal ring and being fascinated by its graphics at the time comparing it to PlayStation 1 or late 90s PC games. It was a fun first person RPG that almost reminded me of the original shadowgate. I remember enjoying collecting the different rings and seeing what spells they brought about. At the time I noticed it was by from software and I also rented Evergrace because it was by the same developer. To this day I love that weird and unconventional action RPG. I remember being fascinated at the time that the armor you pick up actually shows up on your character and it's interesting to see some of its DNA in the modern Dark Souls.
@zackschilling4376
@zackschilling4376 2 жыл бұрын
I picked it up cuz of its close look to the King's Field games. If you wanna see some of the early DNA of the Souls games, check the KF series out! KF IV for PS2 is prob the best place to start.

I would recommend a few more, like Gungriffon Blaze that is an arcade mecha action fps with an awesome soundtrack and butter smooth framerate. Chain Dive that has laughably bad cgi, but a really unique gameplay and chill soundtrack, Skygunner with charming graphics and fun gameplay, Airforce Delta Strike which is Konami's Ace Combat that has great character art and a newgame+ with unlockable ships that are recreations of old konami shmup ships. There's also Shinobido that is a spiritual successor to Tenchu by the original creators, its controls take some getting used to, but it's an excellent ninja game with lots of replayability as the game has it's own story and different endings depending on how well you do missions and to who you do missions for, as your performance influences the forces of factions with their own goals. The game got a spinoff/sister game on the PSP that allowed you to create stages you could migrate to the PS2 and sequel on the PSVita that builds up on the features of the first game with tighter controls and just as much replayability. There's many more, but these are among my favorites.

I only have 450 PS2 games, mostly NTSC (because I prefer 60hz) but also some PAL/NTSC-J but that's because I have the multiplatform titles on my OG Xbox instead, nearly 850 games including the console's exclusives. Most of what I'm missing on the OG Xbox are sports titles, there's way too many and my interest is very low.

"Who is introduced to the world of racing by Heihach -- I mean .." R-Racing Evolution's A.I. made the game really shine. When you can go into a hairpin side by side with a CPU car and both of you clear it with zero contact, that is an amazing A.I. You didn't say how terrible the controls are, though, it's like online with lag.
