That's the Hmong way: favor for favor. If you are deemed not useful (time & money), then you are worthless in their eyes. Hmong people in general just don't get the concepts of doing good for goodness sake, being kind for kindness sake, and being generous because it's the right thing to do. Most Hmong people expect a favor in return if they do something for someone else.
