I love how transparent and honest this conversation is, the first class D amplifiers I heard many years ago, disappointing, but I was thinking in time they would get better, and they did.just think how many years it took for transistors to Sound even close to a good tube amp.

Interesting comparison. Transistors vastly surpassed tubes in terms of power, efficiency, distortion and overall performance for money. Maybe class D will do the same to AB in time?

Listened to this presentation using Hypex DIY/ClassD NC400 monoblocs (NCORE), input from Topping D90SE DAC & preamp, output to my own full range driver design (ultra low distortion magnet system). For years I was after one of the classic Hart Mosfet Class B amps designed by John Linsley-Hood, but since hearing Hypex amps I have stopped looking. They are by far the most precise amplifier I have ever heard. They don't just bring the musicians into your room, they actually put you in the same room as the musicians. Incredible accuracy! For the transmission line designs being simulated in Mathworks, I have already selected the Hypex DIY/ClassD Nilai500DIY mono (x2) or Nilai250DIY stereo. This time I'm going full active with amp casing bolted onto the cabinets. My preference is analogue signal conditioning ahead of the Nilai amps, with dedicated bass driver.

Do you not have to wait until the nilai technology is incorporated into a plate amp before you can bolt it to the cabinet, or is there a way to use the current Nilai DIY amp module. The reason I ask is because I am building my own active speakers and I was going to use the current Ncore 3 way plate amp, but now there is going to be a NCore-x or Nilai plate amp soon, I think I will delay my purchase. Grateful for ideas. Mitch

@@mitchlees9622 , my plan was to buy the finished NC500 DIY in aluminium casing and just design it into the TL cabinet base. My current DIY NC400 monos sit on top of cabs with as little speaker cable as possible (no ferromagnetic steel fittings of course). It gives a very classy appearance.

@@martingarrish4082 thank you. I see now how you are doing it. You have passive crossovers in the TL speakers and you are using the 2 Nilai mono units to bi - amp. My plan is to connect the 3 plate amp outputs directly to the drivers and do the crossovers in the DSP. So my options are 1) to use the current FA253 Fusion units 2) wait until new NCorex or Nilai 3-way plate amps are available, or 3) do as you have done, but not sure any 3-way passive crossovers I would make would be any good! @@mitchlees9622 , .passive EQ correction works very well as long as you choose good components (and absolutely no ferrous materials). I favour full range units above baffle step frequency, as it just cuts through the whole xover design for off axis room response discussion. Nothing beats full range for imaging. That said, the TLs will likely be active as I'm favouring a second driver to handle TL bass power to

It is so easy to misinterpret the D in class D as Digital. Which it is not at all. It is just a letter that came after the previous amplifier class C. D is a switching amplifier which has a very high frequency oscillator that controls the sampling of the signal. But the oscillator and all other components can be totally analogue in nature.
