I went to school with Tone and honestly I wish that he had better people around he struggled with addiction and kept finding himself doing things that put him in trouble that our school would cover up. He wouldn’t come to class, he would steal from our lockers before practice, he needed discipline and everyone was letting him go under the radar because it was putting our school in a better light for having a top recruit. Wishing him the best, thanks for covering this Matt

Alfano is designated a Canadian National for roster purposes, which means he was either born or raised in Canada, or one of his parents had a Canadian passport. Since there are a limited number of Americans permitted on a team’s active roster, being designated a Canadian could allow Alfano play a whole career up North if necessary.

Sprains and breaks are easy to notice and easy to fix but brain injury can be subtle. It's harder to recognize, easier to hide, sometimes impossible to treat. Athletes are encouraged to ignore, hide and work through pain and injury. Star athletes are more inclined to do so by their competitive spirit and have the most to lose if they reveal concussion symptoms. There's no way to know the truth but the behaviors depicted in this video are what you might see in chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

LOL. @3:25 I immediately knew what the problem was. But I'll let the video play and see what else may have been going on. So yeah, watching some of his highlights... dude wasnt that good, but he was good in HS because of where he was at. In Florida, Texas, or California, he would have been 3 stars at best. Hell, he wouldnt have been any better in most states in the South where football is king. More than any of that though, dude aint right in the head. He didnt have to put in the work in HS in NJ. Once he was going to have to put in the actual work, he didnt have the stones to do it. This also really points out many of the flaws with the way players are graded in HS.

I think they should do away with the national rankings for HS players. Just keep state rankings. At the end of the day, idk how you can say someone is the best in the country when there’s no legitimate tangible measures of how they compare to each other (other than measurables such as height, weight, speed and etc). You can’t go by stats 100% because of the difference in the level of competition and/or the type of offense the player plays in.
