If you don't do this, don't call yourself a lead trumpet player. Also make sure you have your joke detector glasses on before you watch this video.

This video is propaganda! DO NOT TRUST HIM! Kiss off every single note! Staccatos? Why are you even asking? Normal notes? Of course? Legatos? That's where the true lead trumpet shines!

The pitch of my voice climbs as I speak and then resets back to rock bottom every time I start a new clip.

I have a high e at the end of a piece (which isn’t that high) but I did the kiss off and my director just gave me a look of approval

You don’t need an ego to play lead trumpet if you are really good. You don’t need to assert your dominance if you have your music perfect. I rather focus on playing my best than trying to prove to someone else that im the best. Just my opinion...

My bad for the late response. This whole video was really a stab at the fresh out of high school, high note squealer type of trumpet player. I personally, absolutely truly, believe that a lead player's job is not to show off, but to set a good example of articulation and phrasing patterns for the other members of the section to follow. It's a huge leadership role; too huge, in fact, to have an ego. If a lead player has too much of an ego they put a ceiling on how well they are able to lead the section. The best leads are humble-- you don't see Wayne Bergeron playing high because he wants to show off, it's just what he does best. So you're actually completely right, the way I truly look at it.

That’s cool I think I’m gonna be put on lead because we’re playing spain (the airmen of note version) and I have a better high register so I could play that song easier

If you look hard enough you can find an awful brass quintet cover I did of that tune freshman year.

For my lead playing I use a Bob Reeves 43C but for everything else I use a Bach Megatone 1-1/2A

I thought that the number 1 secret of a great lead player was the ability to communicate articulation style and note cutoffs to all of the brass players so that the whole band sounded tight ... The joke detectors are telling me that you've got the trumpet player shtick down pat!

I’m thirteen, going into 8th grade and the highest note I can reasonably reach is a G or A above the staff. I am very surprised and somewhat jealous you can play that high😂. As first chair in concert band, I really love your attitude in this video😆🎺.

Yeah man same I'm going in 7th grade and i got like a G above the staff but my friend who is a year older has like 3rd octave and he is better than highschoolers and i try to learn from him
