In my mid 30's here trying to pivot into the art industry (which almost seems impossible) and this is the advice I wish I had growing up (didnt have socials back then.) Definitely a lot of advice I appreciate that isn't just stuff I've already heard a thousand times. Thank you Ms. Lam! If I ever make it you will be on the top of my thank you list.

I'm doing the same at 32. Rediscovering art at this age and going after it. It's not too late!

It seems impossible to you right now but I can assure you it’s not! if you’re on the subreddit animationcareer plenty of people on there have made that pivot around that age too

I'm in my 30s too and I am not going to give up, I really want to get into the industry, I Kept stopping and starting art because of my insecurity with my art not being up to standard but I'm at an age where I don't care and I'm enjoying the process

I’m 33 this year and just getting back into my art! You got this! ❤ Don’t ever let yourself doubt your abilities or progress because of your age. We aren’t even old! I constantly felt that way but then realised what the heck, I could use this time doubting myself and put it towards making progress! 😊 All the best.

I'm going through too much attachment to my art. I want to sell my originals but I can't part with them yet because I don't think I'm ready 🙃

I don't get it why would I bother with making trash when can learn so much more from trying to make something that's actually difficult. I got into drawing anatomy for fun so I can learn how the body functions and improve my left-handed Dexterity yet it still looks better then some art magers I see making tumbler art for a liveing Not left-handed just did it to prove a point and because I can.

I organized a live plan from the next 5-10 years in 2019, I was 27 years old, the first one was improving myself, then 2020 happened and since I had a long time to take a rest I decided to go into a 3D modeling/animation course of 2 years despite never doing anything of animation or modeling, but was very interested and it worked great since I became the best in my class (although I was also 10 years older than the rest of my classmates). So I finished and got into a small local game studio first doing 3D modeling for a game, I will soon be working there for a year. I also got the opportunity to work on an amazing game as the main 2D animator por all the characters and enemies ehich I had a blast for 6 months and despite no previous experience it looked amazing, sadly one day they called all of us and told tha the game is canceled which was a big blow for me and was very sad about it. But I still wanted to get experience in other fields and asked to work in 3D animation and while at first it was kinda boring and I wasn’t very inspired to do any work this past weeks I am having fun again and getting a lot better with my animations. Anyways a summary: its never to late to go for what you want to do in life and even getting there you will have your up and downs, but take every opportunity to improve.

@@arielhare1254 I went to a local school in Mallorca, Spain, where I live, called Ladat Studios (they have a KZbin channel with short films by students). Might not be the best, but for me at least the teachers were very good, I of course still need to learn more, but at least have the basics. Sorry I can’t help you more

This video came at the right time, as of lately I've been feeling extremely attached to my art, comparing it constantly to my idols and friends, feeling bad to the realization that it's not as good as it's meant to be. Especially the thought of what other people may think if I draw something outside of my comfort zone, something less "pretty" that would look out of place among the other drawings, and the scariest thought of all is to draw something that doesn't perfectly align with my core beliefs. Do you have any advice on how to better divide the Portfolio aspect from the art that makes you feel good but people don't seem to appreciate? I love your videos and thanks for making them

I love that "shit book" idea.. I do something similar, in that I draw on cheap loose printing or recyclable paper. It takes the pressure off of drawing on a nice new sketch book, and I don't feel as bad if I throw away the sketch and am usually more inclined to just do a bunch of messy scribbles... but never thought of having a "shit book" brilliant!

the detachment from my art is the reason i don't really draw for myself, i just don't care and it sucks, because i have so many great ideas, but i sit down to start drawing and get bored barley into stating

I'm an artist but I have adhd and autism. I know that there's kind of a stigma about bringing it up, because it can sound like making excuses: "oh no, all this advice doesn't work for me!" But it's been really hard because I am incredibly driven, but have been tripped up badly due to a lack of focus 😅. I've tried time and again to implement better business sense to my work, but I'm realising just HOW MUCH MORE help I may need compared with some other people, which can get expensive without appropriate financial support! I'm still trying my darnest to follow all of this advice and beating myself up when I fail. (Although I DO actually have a paid career which is proof I am competent and know my onions! Just how much better I could be if I wasn't such a schmuck)! Maybe I need to make my own videos!

Hello Michelle! Thank you for the video, hope you’re doing well. I have a question regarding the WGA strike, does it affect animation or are they different guilds? If so, is the industry currently halted from any development?? Is no one in the a I’m industry not working right now??
@julesnotafool
@julesnotafool Жыл бұрын
not 100% sure but i think the strike would affect artists of all kinds because a major part of it is getting rid of AI art in the industry, and paying creatives in general higher wages
