"The 10 Best Places To Live In British Columbia For 2020" if you come from money. As someone who lives in BC, I find this informational video to be quite opinionated towards a certain class. Also, who does your fact checking? Almost half of what was said was incorrect. Not to mention you completely missed out on cities like Courtenay, Campbell River, Nanaimo, etc, which would be at least in the bottom half of the top 10. I think the fluff in this piece is a little flat. :(

~MUST READ~ As someone who previously lived in Squamish, I'd say that it should most definitely not be on the list. It's very expensive, and does not have many activities to do unless you are one who loves the outdoors, mountain biking, and rock climbing. The newer people who live in the town, most from Metro Vancouver, believe they can overtake the town and throw out the residents who have lived in Squamish their entire lives. They are trying to change everything in Squamish. They're quite snobby, rich people that think they are better than everyone. I do NOT recommend living there. PS: Whistler shouldn't be listed as it is. Not quite sure if it should even stay on the list. Prices of nearly anything are outrageous, especially considering it's a resort town. And Surrey has a high crime rate, NOT a low crime rate. Most murders, kidnappings, etc I see on the news are located somewhere in Surrey. The creator(s) of this video has no idea what they're talking about. Honestly, I recommend many places on Vancouver Island such as Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, The Comox Valley, and many more. They're quiet places with not much crime if you're not much of a fan of the big city, relatively cheap as well, with stunning views up and down The Island. However, if you like the city Kelowna, Kamloops, and Prince George are fine places as well.
@rhiannondavies89004 жыл бұрын

I was surprised at several of these places. Surrey has a high rate. As does Kelowna. Kamloops is semi arid and the land around it is like the prairies. I lived in Colwood. Commuting to Victoria is called the "Colwood Crawl". Very poor traffic movement. Vancouver and Victoria are unappealing because of a very high cost of living. Fort Saint John? Are you kidding me? A tough place. Squamish is very appealing. Whistler is a tourist town, all seasons. Now what did I miss? Ah, Nelson. A beautiful place, and you can grow high quality cannabis. And for your own use, it's legal. Historically it was home to many "hippies" but that has changed. It is a beautiful city. Now, I don't mean to disagree but I have added a few concerns about the chosen areas. The crime rate and gang activity should put Vancouver and Surrey at the bottom of the list. Hell's Angels had a significant presence in Kelowna but recently they lost their clubhouse to the BC government because it was considered to be proceeds of crime. Nothing to say they'll just buy another property and stay put. Sorry to burst a few bubbles, but forewarned is forearmed.

To see a doc in a walk in clinic, you have to show up to the clinic way before it opens, stand in line to make an apt for that day, and hope there aren’t so many people ahead of you that the apts get filled up before you get to the front of the line. It’s a mess here in BC. The doctor shortage is a major crisis. If you need a form filled out you’ll make an appointment to see the doc, then likely have to come back again for the form. Obviously aimed at young professionals and wealthy retirees; most of these places are unaffordable for average people. Indeed, many restaurants, etc, in Vancouver are suffering because the lower-wage employees who typically work in such industries can't afford the cost of living near their places of employment (and this was before the effects of covid-19).

Its not the major centers in BC that are where Id live, there are many smaller ones with much to offer. IMO Penticton is the hidden gem of BC surrounded by the best beaches in the Okanagan Valley plus all the amenities without the congestion of Kelowna, due to Penticton having the foresight to build a bypass to alleviate through traffic during peak tourist season. Free parking on the beach and a much slower pace of life add to its appeal. Osoyoos is spectacular! The whole Similkameen Area is too. The entire Kootenay region is dotted with unique towns, and the highways are a motorcyclists dream.

Increasing numbers of immigrants from war torn countries and places like India & China have/are turning every community into unrecognizable ghettos. Surrey is one of the worst with escalating crime and indo-gang related murders rising every year. The Politicians are catering more and more to the immigrant voting blocks, leaving the wasp population without a voice in their own country. No sign of this changing anytime soon.

Give your head a shake. What a bigoted comment. Are Hells Angels from India and China? And the wasp population in "their own country"? "Wasps" don't originate here unless you mean the yellow and black kind that sting people. I don't even know anyone that uses the term wasp any more, it started to get erased from memory as everyone started intermarrying.

A young guy from Newfoundland moves to British Columbia and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job. The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says "Yeah. I was a vacuum salesman back in Newfoundland." Well, the boss was unsure, but he liked the kid and figured he'd give him a shot, so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did." His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to the sales floor. "How many customers bought something from you today?" The kid frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, "One". The boss says "Just one?!!? Our salespeople average sales of 20 to 30 customers a day. That will have to change, and soon if you'd like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in Vancouver. One sale a day might have been acceptable in Newfoundland, but you're not on the farm anymore, son." The kid took his beating but continued to look at his shoes, so the boss felt kind of bad for chewing him out on his first day. He asked (semi-sarcastically), "So, how much was your one sale for?" The kid looks up at his boss and says "$101,237.65.′′ The boss, astonished, says, "$101,237.65?!? What the heck did you sell?" The kid says, "Well, first, I sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod to go with his new hooks. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4×4 Expedition." The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a TRUCK!?" The kid said, "No, the guy came in here to buy tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing.'"

If you are going to do a video of places in BC it might be a good idea to have actual pictures from those locations. Surrey, for one is not on Burrard Inlet so I can't understand why there is a picture of the waterfront and the north shore mountains. Since I live in BC and Vancouver in particular I know my province very well. It is indeed a great place to live but you should get your facts straight if you are going to do a video on the province.
